    A suit to suit.

    Informal suit?

    Formal suit?
    formal_suit.jpg

    Or birthday suit

What do you like girls? What would you rather guys?

I think the informal suit is making a big entrance nowdays I like it not that I have many occasions that I need a suit jacket, the only time I had a full suit was for my wedding.

    Re: A suit to suit.

I think it really depends on the event if I'm honest. Like, I wouldn't be impressed if someone showed up at our wedding in an informal suit, if that makes sense? But if its a random get together or dinner out for someone's birthday then its fitting.

Birthday suits are fun in the right context too.

id have to agree w/ tiffany. although for a wedding, i may not like the formal thing so much. it is and always will be a formal occasion, but i have always thought that formal occations should be lightened up and a little less uncomfortable for all involved. my girlfriend would dissagree... oh well, lol

    Re: A suit to suit.

I LOVE the informal suit. It's so classy. So fresh. I would be glad to be taken on a date with a guy in an informal suit, and myself in a skirt, my favourite top and a nice pair of shoes. I never wear a skirt.

The formal suit should only be worn during special occasions. It's too expensive otherwise.

    Informal fo' sho'.

Actually, **** suits. I don't really like them. A shirt, dark pair of jeans and a pair of trainers or boots, or shoes (depends on the guy and type of shoe), and I'll get hot under the collar.

For a wedding? Uh. I don't see the big deal if a guest wanted to be a little informal. I'd want everyone to be comfortable, and not having to worry if they spill a little wine on themselves during my party. I wouldn't be impressed if they turned up in jeans and a band t-shirt though - I appreciate a little effort at least.

I'm a situational guy, but I have to say that I prefer the informal suit. Unless a girl specifically requests the formal or something else I stick with the informal suit.

    Re: A suit to suit.

It's not a suit, it's just jeans and a blazer. It's a style that peaked mid 2000's and is slowly dying out while dressing more formally without going the traditional route is becoming more popular.

For weddings it's entirely dependant on the atmosphere. I've been to some where I feel right at home in a collared short sleeve shirt, shorts and flip-flops and one where I was damn grateful I rented a tuxedo, rich asian people overdress...always!

The biggest thing about suit's is fit. You can spend thousands on a Zegna which looks like crap because the guy who sold it to you convinced you it was the perfect fit when they never are, or you can spend a few hundred on an off-the-shelf suit at a discount, and it tailored and look great.

I feel like a monkey while wearing a suit, so neither.

Special occasions warrant a nice pair of jeans, an expensive shirt and a leather jacket.

Suits are for corporate ass kissers, both formal and informal. Sure, if you're going to a wedding, getting married, or going to a funeral, it's appropriate to wear a suit, but if you wear a suit anywhere else, you're just a douche bag.

Right, everyone who is expected to dress formally to work is a douchebag, must be how that works.

If you get a job where your boss forces you to wear a suit, you're expected to be a corporate ass kisser or you'll get fired. Therefore you must convert to douche baggery.

I don't know, I kinda like the monkey suit. I'm not a kiss up by any stretch of the imagination even though I wear suits though. Although, I would have to agree, in general most guys that wear suits are kiss ups.

For my friend's ultra-posh wedding back in June there was a guy that showed up in jeans, a shirt/blazer and a baseball hat that said "Vagitarian".

    I shit you not.

Who said anything about being forced to? Yes there are some businesses where there are dress codes, appearance is important when you're dealing with large sums of money or valuable assets. To immediately assume suit = douche bag tells me you've had a bad experience with individuals more successful than yourself, or haven't been exposed people in the corporate world. You stereotyping is ignorant and childish.

Yep, those guys at Enron, Refco, WorldCom, and Delta Airlines were so much more successful than I. That's probably because they wore suits.

I just can't take anything you say seriously with that avatar pic haha.

I understand high corporate businesses need to have a professional and clean cut look about them but I am not really talking about work because that would be bias. I am talking about everyday going to functions or restaurants and weddings etc.

    Re: A suit to suit.

Why all the hate for formal suits? I think they're lovely and I love wearing them.

I think so-called 'informal suits' are rather tacky. I see them as a form of smart-casual, meaning they might be appropiate to wear to a pub event or a night-club or something - but anywhere else they just look silly. Maybe the love for them is an American thing. If you want to dress smart-casual, the best route is a shirt and dark trousers.

Weddings are different though. I don't know if you get 'informal' weddings per se, I've never been to one. A suit is pretty much standard at a wedding unless you are a part of the immediate family/best man/male bridesmaid or whetever - then you wear a kilt, which is usually made of the same tartan as the groom or optionally your family tartan.

Also "bow ties are cool" apparently.

I have always wanted to go to an old fashion ball so I can adorn myself in a tailed suit with vest and bow tie or even a earlier period haha and have the wife in a corset.
