    SAD! (Seasonal Affective Disorder?)

    I think that's what it's called. Anyone had it or know any first-hand/second-hand experience on it? I feel like I am having this for the first time...Just general lack of interest in anything/bored and feeling overall down for no apparent reason.

    I live in IL so winter here is just bad. Thing is, I have lived here for several years and this is the first time I've felt really affected by the short days/long nights, crappy cold weather, etc. Maybe it's because I see more of it because of my longer commute to/from work these days.

    Just wondering if there are ways to deal with it without having to go to the doctor or taking some anti-depression pills (that could drive you to suicide according to the disclaimers...how weird is that O_O)

    I've heard of that before. I've read some reports that say if you sit in a tanning bed for a little while, it can help with SAD, but I've also read other reports that say to stay away from those...

    Wikipedia suggests bright light therapy. Basically, just sit in front of a bright light source for 30 or so minutes (not looking directly at the light, of course), and you should start to feel better.

    Stop being depressed, start doing cool s**t. Wake up in the morning and punch the day in it's face.

    Does it have to be a special kind of light? Because I sit under a bright light all day at my office and it doesn't seem to help lol

    Hmm..I'll try B12. We have that at home but I don't take it.

    No one wants to be depressed. I shouldn't be. I wouldnt even call myself depressed right now there's just some 'bug' that's biting me and I can't help but wonder what it is and I want to do something to remedy it.

    Well, I try to write/draw but I haven't touched Photoshop in like 3 or so days now and got a half-finished painting of Ahri from League of Legends sitting there but I cant get myself to finish it >_<

    I try mindless things like gaming to pass the time and distract myself though.

    I tend to only get SAD when I'm at school. When I'm working, I'm around people and I'm doing the things that I love. Being around said people get me out of it usually. When I'm at home or living on my own, I tend to be more depressed. That being said, I still think it's a mind thing. I was on the B12 and Vitamin D pills, I got tired of drinking a whole glass of orange juice all the time, so I stopped. It didn't really make me feel any different. My doctor told me to start taking them, so I did.

    I love winter. Absolutely adore it. Also with my commute (All 6 hours of it, plus a walk), I find I'm getting out/walking a lot more. I also try to keep my phone in my pocket rather than in my hands more often. It tends to help. It has been cloudy lately, but my depression doesn't depend on weather. It depends on my hormone fluctuations and what happens in my day.

    What I suggest is that you find something that you love and stick with it. Winter can be a downer for people if you let it. Just living in general can be a bloody downer if you let it. Find ways to make it good for yourself. That's how I combat depression lately and it seems to work for me.

    Videogames will probably make you more depressed. Whenever I spend a day gaming (which I try to avoid) I usually end up feeling like a lazy sack of s**t.
    In addition to my earlier suggestion, I'd also recommend avoiding staying in your house. Most of the occasions when Im in a slump (it has happened, however awsome I am) its due to not having something interesting to do. I.E. nothing outside the house.

    A buddy of mine was in the Army, he was stationed in Alaska. Everyone there had bright light therapy I guess you could say. It was some visor that had a light that went over your forehead and eyes.

    Other than that my uncle started getting affected by it so he moved to Florida. He used to live in New Hampshire 30 something years and loved skiing, mountains, winter, and all that jazz. But as of last year he just felt really bummed out by the grey and got into a real funk. Seems he's doing alot better though now being away from it.

    I think other than that just diet and exercise can help alot. People in winter gorge themselves on food and just drink alot which after a while becomes very lethargic. Eating right and exercise can work wonders.

    lol I can relate to that video game thing. And yeah I am usually fine when I go outside I guess but winter kinda makes that hard.

    Ugh, I should try working out again I guess. All the exercise I get these days is the 3-4 mile walk I do a day walking to/from the train station. I used to work out regularly when my commute was much shorter >_<

    Hm... exercise does all sorts of good stuff, including improve mood.
    If you have someone you can go to the gym or run with, that's usually the best way to get back into the routine.

    I know how hard it is to go back to the gym after a long hiatus and come to terms with how much strength you've lost.
