    Re: The Royal Wedding...

My family got up before 5 a.m. to tune in to watch the wedding. I was already up for unrelated reasons, but I went ahead and checked out the highlights online. I thought it was pretty nice of the bit that I seen. I watched David and Victoria Beckham's entrance, as well as the bride's of course. The lady commentators were going crazy over both the bride's dress and how hot David Beckham was. Didn't watch much else, though I might check out some more highlights later on.

    Re: The Royal Wedding...

Oh, I watched it too. The way I'm looking at it is that it is a part of my country's history, regardless how you look at it. It's not everyday there's a royal wedding, especially when the bride isn't royalty. There's thousands of people in the street, millions of people watching this on TV, there's helicopters everywhere, the planes will go over my roof very soon, and the spirit here is pretty amazing. Parties are about to start all over the place. I'm just waiting to have a shower, and I might go out and join in. Because, really, why the **** not?

Everyone I have on facebook who is writing a status about being bored are the ones who don't care or are refusing to take part lol. It's not as if there's nothing going on today, or nothing to take part in. You've been given a day off of work to celebrate and party. Some people need to pull their heads out of their ass, and take the day if you were lucky enough to get it, because there are people working today.

As for the wedding. It was actually kind of sweet. I laughed when it looked like the ring wouldn't fit though,

    Re: The Royal Wedding...

The whole Royal family is a joke and should be disbanded, a complete waste of tax funds that could be spent on people that actually need it.

Much like Irelands President, i dont even know her fuckin name thats how much she does... Why do these things exist and why do we keep throwing money at them?

Anyway its over now, lets count down the days to the Royal Divorce. Lets face it, Its going to happen, as he's a spoiled little brat...

    I agree with nix wholeheartedly.

I didn't watch a single minute of the thing. I played video games instead.

    Re: The Royal Wedding...

Mary McAleese is the president of Ireland.

As for the royal wedding, I don't get why people are getting fussed about it, it's over now. It had to be done. That's it.
If a future king/queen were getting married in a Final Fantasy game, I doubt people would be as 'irritated' as they are now with a real life event. I personally don't care at all about the wedding, but I respect the importance it holds to the people of England. As an Irish person, I don't see the point in jumping on the bandwagon of 'ooh royal family, british rule in ireland, history of whatever'. That's not my job. William and Kate have absolutely nothing to do with any of that. They are just two people.. One of which happens to be a member of the royal family. And that is it. Something I am pleased with in modern times.
And I think the whole attraction of Americans to the wedding is mostly a novelty thing. Its just an interesting news story with a fairytale backdrop, and no more.

Well, no, William (and Kate? Will she be Queen?) are likely to be my head of state within my lifetime. As much as it is just a ****ing wedding, it is a historical event above novelty value.

It still poses as some novelty though. America doesn't have constitutional monarchy, and they're not part of the Commonwealth, and I'm supposing that's one of the reasons why there was such a huge interest over there. It is interesting to say the least, especially if you're in that position.

"Oh, but I'm American, and I wasn't interested!" ...So? Didn't stop millions of other Americans tuning in at 4am in the morning, or actually flying over for the wedding, did it?

The thing that's really irking me about the wedding right now, is everyone who didn't care, won't shut the **** up talking about it. "Ohkay, wedding's over, can we get back to real noooze?" "There's still articles about the wedding! OMG, I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO WATCH THE NEWS AGAIN." It's stupid. -_-

    Re: The Royal Wedding...

    Alpha,
Apparently she will one day, I don't really understand the mechanics of it...
Yes thats true, a very important historical event, for you if you are under their 'empire'?
But for most people who will not be involved who live in other countries, its just an interesting story. I reluctantly admit I found it interesting.
There was a lot of novelty elements in it though with the harmless topics of 'Kates dress', celebrity guests, (beckham and elton john...), the 80's themed disco at the reception...

Not going to happen. Well, William will be your head of state, if he doesn't die. But Kate won't.

In order for her to be made queen, their marriage has to outlast the rest of Queen Elizabeth reign, as well as Prince Charles's reign as king. And seeing as how Prince William comes from a broken family, in which, the children, once married, most likely get divorced at least once, and seeing as how the rate of divorce for newlyweds is far greater than the chances of them not getting a divorce, it's actually going to be his second or third wife who becomes queen.

Yet due to negative publicity, she'll most likely drop the title of Queen, kind of like how Prince Charles's wife Carmilla, once he is king, will be known as Her Royal Highness The Princess Consort.

Are we still on about this topic? The wedding is over.

Anyway, Clint, I couldn't agree with you more. I can totally see that happening.

On the other hand, I'm trying to keep an open mind about it. William is trying to make a change in the family. It's hard to tell what's going to happen next.

    See what I mean?

No one is allowed to talk about it any more, because it's over, but no one will stop themselves regardless on the side of the fence they're on.

It's not going to be an event which clears up over night. People are going to talk about this for a while. When Obama was in the election process, and then finally elected, it was talked about for many months over here. Yet we have a wedding, and it now errybody needs to stfu about it.

Btw, I know there's a difference in terms of life changing aspects of rule, but they're both part of history.

As for a divorce any time soon? I doubt that'll happen. Alex Reid and Kate Price was just an obvious **** up with marriage before you'd even heard of the guy. I think William and Catherine are a million times better than that. They've been together since 2003, and at the wedding it was clear they were still very much in love. Smirks, blushes, quiet whispering, watery eyes... It was cute.

I also wonder if we wish our family members and friends divorce when they get hitched?

Well, it is really far more likely that Australia and New Zealand will just leave the Commonwealth before that point. Honestly, I live tens of thousands of kilometres away from a Head of State that has been here, what, once?

If I were a monarchist, I would be hoping like hell that Charles, the boring twat, pass by his opportunity to the throne to his son and daughter-in-law. They exude vitality and happiness. Charles and Camilla = more of the same.

In truth, however, I'm undecided whether or not I support the constitutional monarchy. On the one hand, it strikes me as ridiculous and irrelevant. On the other, I don't want a politicised president. Having a Govenor-General and only one house of Parliament within the Westminster System is an incredibly effective system of government, and I'd miss it, monarchy or no monarchy.

EDIT: And wishing any young couple to get divorced is incredibly rude, regrdless of who they are, or your views on them. Unless Kate's sister, Pippa, gets married before I meet her. In that case, she better keep divorcing until she finds me. See attachment.

See, this is the kind of thing that I don't get. Stating a couple's chances of getting a divorce is much different than wishing that a couple gets divorced.

Stating the chances is stating that statistically, they're more likely to get divorced at some point than stay together. Wishing that a couple gets a divorce would be stating something like, "I hope this couple gets a divorce."

Though, it's easy to take your frustrations out on the people who bring up the possibility and likelihood of Royal Divorces, and call it rude and crap like that, whereas ignoring the hundreds of years of history of divorce throughout the entire British monarchy. I tend to go by what history has shown to repeat time and time again.

Can someone please give me a rundown of what "consequences" there might be? Everyone's just saying "historical moment", etc., etc., but I have no clue why. But then, I didn't even know there was a wedding until a day or two before it.

    Re: The Royal Wedding...

I suppose it's 'historical' for two reasons. One day, they will be monarchs. Their first born will also be a monarch. Had William married someone else, the Royal line would forever be altered. The question of who exactly he married is thus rather important.

Secondly, this doesn't happen everyday. Especially when involves a 'commoner'. The only recent example I can think of is when some New Zealand girl got with a prince from... Denmark? She will be Queen one day; which is not something most people expect to become.

    Practical consequences? Pretty much none.
