The Royal Wedding...

...is perhaps the least interesting thing I can imagine.

Haven't heard of it? Two people (one of whom is rich without merit; is in a position where he will one day inherit a position of power over several nations, only one of which he is actually a member of; and comes across as pleasant, which makes it hard to hate on him; the other of whom has rich parents; is often compared to her spouse-to-be's dead mother; is 'descended from commoners' (uhh... like most people?); and is rather pretty and charming, which also makes it difficult to hate on her) are getting married. Pretty simple.

Yet this marriage is special! It will be watched by hundreds of millions of people (a minority of whom will be taking it seriously/won't be drunk), is going to occur in some old church with the bridegroom's dead relatives inside, and is a black hole of media attention. The royal wedding this, the royal wedding that. Perhaps it's because I live in a Commonwealth nation, but hooollllyyyy shit, please, stop talking about it.

So this thread better not be responded to. If you dare discuss the royal wedding in this thread, and how boring it is, prepare to be added to Alpha's ignore list (join the one current member!). I'm sick of hearing about it.

I'm not interested in the wedding. People at the moment are making money out of it left, right and center. I live in London, and there's Royal Wedding memorabilia and souvenirs in every store and market stall around. There's already party banners hanging around. It's sickening. Marriage isn't supposed to be about that.

I might still watch it though, because it's one of those once in a lifetime things that I won't be able to watch again live. I won't be upset if I miss it though. I do plan to sleep in on that day.

It is all the news is talking about in the States. Today they were live in London talking about it, and they will be there all week. Then, on the day, coverage begins at 4:00 a.m. EDST (Eastern Daylight Savings Time). It must a weird world we live in when each American news network (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX) spend 40 minutes talking about the wedding, 12 minutes for commercials, and 8 minutes about the rest of the world's news. *These numbers are not exaggerated, I wrote down the events because I was curious about how much coverage the wedding was getting.

I am not going to watch it live, but I may DVR it and watch when there is nothing else on. Like Entity says, it's a once in a lifetime thing. Well, this would be a twice-in-a-lifetime thing for my mother, she watched Charles and Diana's wedding as well.

Just because your family has money, a pointless figurehead political position, and over a thousand years of detailed history doesn't make you royal. My job doesn't recognise Bank Holidays (we are only closed on Christmas Day, and limited hours around New Years, so most of us tend to work through pretty much all the Bank Holidays) however I have a scheduled day off on the day in question, which I am disappointed about. The American media sounds fascinating. Even the government-owned BBC isn't going that far. (See attachments, indicating that Doctor Who and the PSN outage take precedence).

Sadly, looking at the schedule for BBC1 on Friday, the royal wedding is going to be given live coverage from 8am to 13.40, followed by 30 minutes of REAL news, and then more wedding crap until 4pm.

It is a good idea to show the wedding of a woman who will one day be the most famous living woman in the world (unless there is a female president at the time), and the wedding is intended to encourage economic growth and raise the spirits of the nation; but it seems the worldwide coverage is just silly. Those 8 hours on Friday luckily will include all of the talking crap that will come from the 'live studio in London', although I don't doubt that in some godforsaken country, the general public will need to endure those 8 hours and all the speculative rubbish before and after the wedding.

I am jealous of Kate Middleton though, I wish I could be the future Queen of the United Kingdom. Without addressing the gender concerns, being the Queen Consort is much better than being the Queen's Husband, who doesn't even have an official title IIRC.

Oh, and @midgetbob; the Royal Family themselves are footing most of the bill, since they do actually have their own money.

I don't see much point in moaning about it, it's still going to happen, and the wildfire hyperactive media coverage is certainly a given. There has been 'royals' getting married for centuries, and there has been equivalent hype about each of them. I personally couldn't give a shite about it but it's unavoidable unless you switch the telly off and don't buy a newspaper. Luckily, the Irish media doesn't glorify the affair, for obvious reasons. But I understand that the event is important to many people and as a formality, deserves such extravagant media attention.

That's exactly what I've been doing, and have been doing for quite a while, so I haven't seen/heard much coverage of this "event". Once the hype is all over and done with, life will resume as normal.

I'm not particularly excited about the Royal Wedding or anything, and I doubt I'll even watch it, but I must say it's a little silly that you're all saying how irritating it is that everybody is talking about it and that it's all over the news and other media, and yet here you are talking about it still? You're still giving it publicity. If you think it's so over hyped and annoying, then stop talking about it? O.o Just sayin'.

I think fair play to those who still enjoy the tradition (generally older generations), at least they're having a good time getting hyped up for it. I'm not really bothered by it if I'm honest, it's just two people getting married. That said I'm not bothered by it being over-hyped either. I wish them both all the best with their marriage, even if they are stealing my parents' money.

I honestly don't care. It's a wedding; people get married all the time. Just because it's one of the royal family, does it really make it so special? Was it really so special when Princess Diana died, trying to escape the paparazzi?
