    Post your favourite non-Earth entity

    People of Earth talk about Earth too much. So in this thread post about your favourite thing in the entire universe that is not Earth.

    My favourite thing, at least in the Solar System, is Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, and the second largest moon in the Solar System. It is 50% larger and 80% more massive than the (Earth's) Moon. It has lakes of methane. One of my favourte images is this one, of a radar scan of its north polar region:

    You can almost see yourself setting sail in its oceans of smelly liquid. It's methane cycle is very much akin to the water cycle of Earth. It is a planet-like moon.

    Europa is badass too, but I think Titan is the best.

    Neptune. Nobody ****ing likes Neptune. I dunno why. Maybe Jupiter is bigger, has a bigger "spot". Saturn is bigger, has more rings. But Neptune and its irregular orbit get nothing! Not it's biggest moon, Triton.

    edit: I really wanted to say Voyager. Or the ISS.

    LGM-1(Stands for Little Green Men, which it no longer bears that name, if I'm correct). The story behind it is kind...cutesy/funny. So it was the first pulsar to be discovered and it rotated with such regularity that when it was measured as nearing a whole second it was thought to be like a universal temporal standard or a beacon. Of course, they eventually discovered it was a blown out, rotating star...must've been one hell of a buzz kill.

    EDIT:
    It might strike people as odd, but I'm actually a bit of an astronomy nut.

    hmm, this is a tougher question that I first anticipated. NGC-1275 probably wins for the time being, mostly because it is that only one I can think of off the top of my head.

    It's the closest destination outside of our solar system. Once we've explored all of the subplanets out there hanging out with Pluto, we can shoot further - I just hope they figure out a way to do it that won't take thousands of years and dozens of generations of peoples.

    Oh man, binary stars are so cool! Watch this video: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped....ogv.480p.webm

    And here's a picture of [my namesake] Centauri from Titan, the coolest thing in the Solar System:

    I like... our Milky Way? It's pretty neat.

    Here's a nice big pic of it: VISTA gigapixel mosaic of the central parts of the Milky Way

    Saturn has been my favorite planet since I was a kid. The rings must be a novelty or something. Venus is also up there now, just because there are a lot of awesome colonization theories behind it that don't deal with terraforming. The moon is also cool.

    Nebulae are fun to look at.

    Exoplanet Kepler-62f.

    1.4x as big as Earth, in the roughly same spot as Earth in the Goldilocks zone, and 1.2k light years away.

    Sun is smaller though... so that kinda puts things a bit more questionable for life. If so... Kepler-62e is also in the Goldilocks zone, and closer (about as close as Venus) to the (cooler) sun. It's 1.6x as large as Earth... but has a closer "resemblance" to earth than 62f.

    They've already been mentioned, but I'm a fan of good ol' Titan and Kepler-62f as well. Saturn is my favourite planet in our Solar System though. Those planetary rings are spectacular, and it has a terrifying 2,000km wide hurricane blowing away on its North Pole. Titan is a planet-like moon, often thought of as a habitable planet in the future, and is the second largest in our Solar System after Jupiter's moon, Ganymede. Water, ice, methane... just like living in Central London in winter when the sewers back up! Also, I bet the view of Saturn from Titan is gorgeous. =3

    Kepler-62e and Kepler-62f only really amaze me because of the thought of having two potentially habitable planets in the same Solar System. Just imagine looking up into the sky and seeing the planet your parents live on, or where your next holiday will be? What kind of wonder would it be for our Solar System to have the same set up...

    Funny that I just happened upon this clip in one of my subscriptions the other day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZq-HGutdHE

    Before watching this I would have said any Nebula you could point a stick at, they are just pure spectacular to look at very visually appealing.

    But then I watched this clip and now my choice would be NGC 1277 for it's enormous black hole situated in the Perseus constellation. To be more precise most black holes don't exceed 0.1% of their galaxies mass, this mega black hole makes up 14% of it's host galaxy.

    That's a very interesting video. I thought I'd look up some of the objects on google, but I don't recommend looking in the images section for one or two of them. ^^;

    Also, The Big Blob kind of reminds me of Flubber, so LAB-1 is a new favourite. xD;

    I enjoyed the video thanks RamesesII! I don't know much about space at present to say what my favourite is, but if you guys know of any cool space related youtube videos, please share! I'm super interested in watching

    I am fascinated by Saturn and its rings though. So that can be my favourite for now!

    I bought a telescope and I'm going to look into joining an astronomy club! I'm so excited! I saw the International Space Station pass over Brisbane a few nights ago, it was so cool! Hopefully once I get into this a bit more I can add more to this thread! OR just space stuff in general! Zomg so excited!

    A telescope is the first thing I'm going to buy when I get a "real" job and have some honest-to-god-this-isn't-actually-food-money discretionary income. I'm jealous. I grew up with my dad telling me all about astronomy, went to the actual observatory a few times. The first time I looked through a telescope was to see Saturn, it's rings were amazing.

    Ooh, here's a cool image:

    800px-JupiterRings.jpg

    It's Jupiter, from behind, captured by Galileo (the satellite). It even shows Jupiter's rings, which are so fine that only the largest earth-based telescopes can see them.
