I have a clear glass piggy I keep pennies in. Sometimes the cork falls out of his belly and I hear the pennies go everywhere. I'm not sure how much I have. most of them I find on the roads and things. The piggy is half full! =^.^=
OMG, I'm making a tread. o.o
Who collects up pennies, or spare change? Does anyone have a special jar or money box for collecting them?
In my home, we all have out own collections forming up. I keep my cash in a locked box in a secret place, and my change in a separate money box. The idea is just to keep adding to it without counting, and when it gets full, change it up.
There are money machines in stores, but now I have my own mini ATM machine (my dad thought it was a joke, or whatever) that counts it up for me, and doesn't charge like the store machines. I mean, 7p per £1? That's taking the piss. So when that counts it up, my step dad collects pennies too... so he takes my coinage, and gives me the cash.
It's a long process, but it stops your wallet/purse being stuffed full of change, even though change can come in handy if you're not a note breaker (solution: keep back the bigger change, like 50p or pound coins).
EDIT: Got a little ahead of myself. The largest sum I've ever collected was almost £20 (damn charging store machines ). That was over a period of about six months, so not bad collecting.
I guess this could move onto "swear boxes". That'll be interesting to see if anyone introduced one into their household.

I totally have a Nantucket Nectars bottle that I put all my change in and change it out whenever it gets full.
Also I hate pennies. I think they should be abolished to save us money. Just saying.
change!
I have something I put change in, it's been 3 years since I've ever seen it full let alone a quarter of the way full. Last time it was full it was around 80 dollars which was nice. Filling it up is roughly 90 dollars, I'd like to make it all quarters haha.

I collect pennies and 2ps in a pot and then if I go to an arcade somewhere I get them changed and run wild on machines! I once changed £10 worth of 1ps and 2ps
I tend to just dump my change on a random shelf corner.
I find that after a week, collecting the change together easily nets me a snitzel and chips plus a softdrink/beer.
Never had a penny though as Australia doesn't use them.

Back when my guy and I first got together, we decided as a fun way to save money to throw a loonie ($1 coin) in a jar everytime we had sex. We ended up having enough to rent a room at the Mariott in Niagara Falls (everything upgraded) a bit later in the year or so. Best way to save money EVER!!!!
I collect any foreign currency. Anything at all. Or old coins from New Zealand that we don't use anymore. We sometimes dig up old coins in the garden. British ones mainly, but occasional Asian ones. We're at a loss to explain those. I keep them all in a mug on my bookshelf. It's full at the moment, and there's a few notes (US$1 and a Malaysian one), but coins are my targets. I'll take them to an antique shop. I suspect a few are current currency in their homeslands, but a lot isn't. I think I may have +$50 in non-current coins, but if there's anything rare, then I could have more.
I am a avid change collector. 40 bucks is the most ive ever gotten for change ^^

@ Tiffany- That sounds like an even better idea than a swear jar!
As for myself, I have a bucket that I keep all my change in. I get a lot of it too, since sometimes people that I wait on will leave change as a tip. That doesn't bother me, because change does add up after a while.
Don't know what I'll do with it once I get the bucket full. Of course I'll cash it in, but I thought about going on a trip somewhere or something. Or I can always do the responsible thing and deposit it into my account for when I really need it, but that doesn't seem very fun.
I also have a collection of those US state quarters going. All the kids in my family have one, because my parents thought it would be cool to do for us. My grandma sends me those Presidential dollars too, so now I have a collection going of those. I never really thought about collecting coins as a hobby, but it looks like that's what I'm doing.

I don't have a penny as I'm Australian. I guess in a few months I will though?
I usually keep my change in my wallet so I can use it with my notes. It's just nicer. But I do have a money box I put change in sometimes. I opened it yesterday to give mum the Yen that was in it. So I've been taking that and using it instead of getting money out of my bank account.
Most of my money is in my bank account so I've never really kept money hidden around my room. Maybe when I was like six? But yeah. I never collect enough change for anything really. Pay with my card for most things =].
Fun Fact: Coins do NOT go over well at the strip club.
I kind of collect coins. My grandpa did, and so I more or less inherited his collection, which is pretty ridiculous and tucked away in safety deposit boxes. I DO have with me though his collection of incredibly random coins from various 20th century junctures. He has a few Japanese coins from WWII, that he got while clearing caves on Iwo Jima.
I shit you not, I have about 5 Third Reich coins. That's right, legit Nazi coins. How ridiculous is that?! Not good ridiculous, but like, I totally thought all that shit was destroyed.
Personally, I love older coins just because of all the history I'd imagine they'd been through. I have some coin from Ireland from like 1905. 105 years of existence, and I have to imagine that it's been in people's pockets for some ridiculous shit.
However, I love wheat pennies. They're such Americana.

hahas, updated July 28th (oldie but goodie!):
I usually try to keep all the change as I have tons of places in my room with penny stashes lol. I'm bad with getting rid of change so I always end up with tons of coins, and I never really do anything with the pennies. I'm the person who picks all the silver change out of the stash. I usually give all the pennies to my dad when it gets too over loaded.

I have a full jar of change and several rolls of various coins stashed in my room. One of these days I need to finish counting it out and deposit it at the bank. I don't really use cash at all anymore so the only change I get these days is the occasional coin or two I find at work or in the dryer.
I do have a few older coins I've collected up from various places, though. I don't really go out of my way to do so but if I find an interesting coin I do like to hold on to it, just because.

When I used to live with roommates a few years ago, we kept a jar that we'd all put our change from anything we bought with cash into. Once it filled up we'd go by a bottle of Crown Royal and split it.
Now I just throw my change into the armrest compartment of my car to use for when I get fast food.
Though I don't have an armrest compartment, there's a little square storage space right behind my shifter that I throw all of the random coinage into. Periodically, I pull all of the pennies out of it and take them inside to throw in a jar. I try to keep the silvers in the car for spare-change usage.
I am a little more card-based these days, though.
As for collecting, I've got a handful of really old coins, and a couple of foreign ones, but not enough to really call a collection.

I don't collect coins of any kind. I have some pretty rare baseball cards, that is as far as my collecting goes. Speaking of pennies I usually throw them in the trash. I never bother to keep them, I never really saw the point in them...
I do. I have a box in my room that looks like a treasure chest and all of my spare change goes in there. I call it my booty box. True story. My dad's change jar had over 50 dollars in it so far.
I pretty much stick every penny I get up my nose.

I save my pennies to put on loafers in preparation for Clint Eastwood's care package.
But seriously, I've got a couple silver coins, some currency from other countries and an old game token that were gathered in childhood and stored in a cute little coin purse.

I used to collect any spare change from purchases that I made actually I wouldn't say I collected it just hated it being in my wallet so I would put it in various places just to get it out of the way, I guess I did that for four or so years than my wife and I went through it not long after we got married and counted up $300 it was a nice surprise.
