    Omg there's a fire!

Let's say there is a fire on your block. You hear the sirens while you're sitting on your couch watching the newest episode of "Burn Notice" (this show used because it rocks and the fact that the title seems appropriate for the situation). Let's assume also that you are watching the newest episode live and you don't have Tivo or DVR of any kind. Would you miss the rest of the episode to go gaze at the beautiful blend of orange, yellow and red or would you stay on your couch and watch the rest of "Burn Notice" (or whatever your big show is / was).

I personally already feel weird about the idea of watching someones house burn down. Obviously the fire looks awesome and it's not something you get too many opportunities to see, but it's someones house. I feel guilty just watching someone else's life burn to the ground just because it's rare and pretty. I would stay at home and try to catch the new later to see what happened with the fire.

All the same, I'd probably still watch the fire. I can always find the latest episode of "Burn Notice" on torrent sites.

    Re: Omg there's a fire!

Heh... This actually happened in my neighborhood.

It was sometime during last year when it happened, and it was one of my friend's Mom's house that got burned down. It was pretty late at night when the fire started and just engulfed the front of the house. No one was hurt, but the damage was bad. Driving passed the house the next day, the attic was caved in and the front porch was gone. Some windows were busted out as well, and you could see scorch marks around the frames. It has since then been bulldozed to the ground, so the only things you can see now is a bunch of grass covering over it's former foundation.

It was reported that the fire was caused by an electrical problem.

I didn't watch it burn, since there was quite a few houses in the way for proper viewing, but you could smell and see the smoke from my house. It had a very musty odor to it.

Sorry for boring you with that whole story. I like to share stories though.

Honestly, I'd probably watch the real fire. The real fire won't always be there, but like Tiffany said, you can watch Burn Notice on a torrent.

There used to be an old school right next to my house, and it went up in flames at least three or four times throughout my childhood (until it was demolished, and you can bet that I watched it be demolished too). So yeah... it's not always there.

I would definitely leave the episode of Burn Notice behind and head outside to check out the fire. I'm not a pyro but I definitely enjoy the element of fire lol

Must just be me then, I also don't like to watch the wreckage after a car crash. Just seems immoral to me to watch someone else's misery like that. If I was there I'd feel like I needed to help or something. Just in my nature I guess.

What's going on outside your window is more exciting than anything going on on television, but only if you pay attention (of course, a house fire is pretty hard to miss.) If I saw my neighbors house burning, I would be relatively worried that somebody, person or animal, was still inside, but if everybody is safe, then you can't do any more harm by watching the fire.

    Re: Omg there's a fire!

We had a housefire at my place this past fall. It wasn't really too bad as far as actual fire and structure damage went, but the smoke got into everything and caused all the shit from electronics to carpets to get thrown out. It was really stressful for our family, and even though the fire happened in the middle of september, we didn't get moved back into our house until like the week before christmas (and I don't think we had internet until new years).

Shit sux man, especially when you get this bigshot insurance adjustor driving in from the state capitol calling my parents out saying that the fire happened on purpose. Yeah, because we want to burn down a quarter-of-a-million-plus house (along with all of our pictures/memories) for our own personal gain. What a mother****er.

I guess if you think it would be wierd watching someone's house burn down, imagine what it would feel like when it is your own. If random people just stopped by and gawked at what was going on (which no one did except my neighbors came over to see if everything was alright), I'd probably get upset.

Sadly, earlier this month a couple my dad worked with's house, basically blew up. It was pretty bad, and they think the cause was from the grandma who was living there. She was old and she was hooked to an oxygen tank. She most likely lifted the tubes from her nose to smoke a cigarette yeah I know an 80 year old on oxygen, has no business smoking in the first place it didn't turn out so good :s

I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

    I can't help but gawk.

Seriously. My father is a Fire Marshal, he investigates all fires in our province. Ontario is a big place, dudes and dudettes! Anyhoo, he only gets called out if there has been a fatality at the fire scene. So yeah, used to it being a really shitty event when my Dad gets called out.

He took me to the Fire College an hour north of here, we went through the training areas and he quizzed me on how each "fire" had started. I got them all right. /smug. I dunno... its an interesting avenue for me. If I wasn't a stay at home mom right now, I'd probably pursue a career in fire investigation.

    Re: Omg there's a fire!

I'd be straight on my phone calling the fire brigade before seeing if there was anything I could do to help on the scene.

Just watching someone's home burn down would sicken me on some level and TV's mostly a load of crap anyway. Even if it were the cartoons I like or something, it's still not that big a priority.

Fire on my block? I would have to go check out the fire. Not because I'm a sick, twisted son of a bitch, but because I'd like to see that everyone made it out alright and provide help if I can (even though there are firetrucks and other emergency vehicles on the way you never know).

Also, you might learn something from watching something that doesn't happen everyday. Like how to save yourself in the future if it ever happens to you. It doesn't have to be sick and twisted for you to like observing a house burning down.

Also, Burn Notice is meh. Probably would get up and leave and not ever watch the rest of the episode.

I stream Bloodborne, FFXIV, and occasionally other games.
