Kik messenger.

I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this new app for Iphones/androids etc. Its basically a form of messaging that utilizes a 3g or wireless internet connection to send messages. Its usefullness surpasses that of any messenger i've used in the past, since its passive and doesnt require you to log in as such and acts more like a free-to-text service. I'm already chatting to a few friends and new people ive met on various places like instagram etc. It utilizes a username and thats all.

So for all those interested, post your usernames here and get a chatting with each other.

I had it....it sucks. It wouldn't work 50% of the time.

You're better off getting Viber. It's free for Androids, Blackberries and iPhones. You can text and call for free using your wifi.

Hookt is pretty good too, but I don't use it often. If you download Viber, PM me.

Keeping in mind it utilizes a 3g/wifi connection. So if there is something wrong with your connection, the app will fail to send/recieve messages. Just adding that I've never had a problem with it. Ill check out viber though.

I know it does. I had it for a while but ended up deleting it because it was using too much of my data. My precious data ;_; Even my friend with the iPhone was complaining about it.

A standard data plan would be around about 500megs to 2gigs where im from (and we are backwards in comparison to american standards) so that would mean it would take 100,000 messages to take up 100MB of your data plan.

I had to look it up after you said something, i would have hated to think it was using as much data as you claimed it was. But as mentioned before, its a passive app that works as a 'free-to-text' service other than a messenger thats makes you log in and needs to be running constantly.
Skype, msn etc are apps that would eat up your data.

I still think Viber is better. You can call anyone in the world. They don't even need viber on the other end. You just need to make sure you have data or are connected to wifi. You can't beat that.

EDIT: Kik froze a lot for me. I know it isn't my phone that freezes because I have an app running in the background that stops that from happening. It also would stop working randomly and wouldn't send messages. I'm not sure if they fixed the bugs with their latest update, but after an app frigs up like that, I don't go back to it.

I've heard of it, but I've never had a reason to download it.
Same reason why I never used BBM.

There just isn't enough demand for it around me. Most everyone I know has unlimited text messages.

Well maybe It's just me , but a phone that requires an app to run to ensure that it doesnt freeze doesnt seem like a phone I'd want to have.

Its a shame that not only did Kik not send/recieve messages 50 percent of the time for you, that it ate up all your friends data and also freezes a lot for you, short of having your phone explode in the palm of your hands because of kik, I still emplore people to check out Kik messenger on their phones and discuss the results here, as its been quite efficient for me in the few weeks I've been using it (that is to say, not one error as of yet.)

Maybe you could promote viber in an other thread.

EDIT: @bias reduX - Its a more informal version of texting in my opinion, like a 'hey whats happenin', not something you would text. Its not really picked up a lot here either, but thought it would be great if the TFF community got into it.

I used to use ebuddy but it was an app that accessed your msn or IM accounts to your phone.
Viber sounds good I can send a heap of saucy sexts to everyone from tff.
