My bouts of inactivity are usually announced; they kinda have to be. "Off for my annual week of no internet" and the sort. I mean, I'm somewhat inactive when it comes to posting as of late (re: the past three or four months), but I'm lurking all the time so I can't really consider myself to be truly inactive.
