How many languages do you speak?

And can you say a phrase in that language please?

Sorry if my questions are random or are asking too much information.

Anyways, I speak English obviously, and I am learning Japanese, slowly.
I also was going to learn Latin and study Enochian but that plan went to hell (lol)

    Hmm, a phrase in Japanese?

Shaberikata wa hayasugiru kara, mo chotto yukkuri de hanashite kureru?
You speak to fast, can you slow down? lol
I'm not fluent, nor do I fully understand so I might be wrong.

Re: How many languages do you speak?

I believe there's a language thread already, but anyway I speak some Tagalog and a lot of Spanish.

A phrase? Um for Tagalog : Pumalakpak ang iyong mga paa. It means Clap your feet haha.

For Spanish: ¿Dónde diablos puse mi pipa? >> Where the hell did I put my bong?

    Ta DA!!!:

I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

    English, obviously.

I also know a little French: "Oui, je parle Francais. J'suis Gemma, et vous?"

And a little Spanish: "iMe ha perdido mi sacapuntas! iMierda!"

And a little Japanese: "Watashi wa Gemma desu! Weeaboo, watashi? Nani sore!" (I remembered, Vicky! ...I hope... ;p)

Re: How many languages do you speak?

Croatian is my native language, other than that I speak English, German, bit of Spanish, Japanese, and Russian, mostly curse words. I wont count Serbian since it's almost the same language as Croatian.

German - Lange Zeit vergangen, seit ich etwas schrieb am Deutsch.

Long time has passed since I wrote something on the German.

Spanish - Yo soy Robert, gusto en conocerte.

I'm Robert, nice to meet you.

As for Japanese, and Russian, I honestly wouldn't know how to write down what I have to say for it to make sense.

Apart from English, I speak a little bit of French. I did French GCSE at school, but was never really good at speaking it. I can read it well though.

I would love to learn Japanese though. I've picked up random phrases and words from watching too much subbed anime.

Never trust the english subs, they rarely say anything correct.

    Point in case...
    Pein, Shinra tensei.
In english it says Almighty Push...
While I am guessing it is Almighty subjugation of the Omnipresent god.

Re: How many languages do you speak?

I speak one language; American. Not English, because I'm not from England. Besides, it should be officially classified as the American Language, since two thirds of it's native speakers are Americans.

Anyway, an example of a phrase in American. I'm going to demonstrate with the phrase "Ma is a nun, as I am." Here we go.

Ma is a nun, as I am.

    Well, American wouldn't make sense.
I remember a Yahoo question asking what do Chinese people speak. You would be amazed on how many people said Chinese. It had me laughing.
Now, an american take on English would make more sense, but can still be argued.

Ahh, i have never been to Japan, but I can speak some of it.
But because the language originated there, I believe it would be considered japanese.
    Same with English.

The English language is Germanic and has its early origins in the tribes of North Western Europe; the Jutes from Jutland Peninsular in Denmark, the Angles from southern Denmark, and the Saxons of North Germany before they invaded the Romano-Brythonic speaking Isle of Britannia in 449 AD, when it became known as Englisc.

And then the English decided to colonize a previously undiscovered land across the Atlantic, and since there were such massive pricks, they got their asses thrown back to England. Hence, the language became American in nature.

Wellll, since American isn't a language, and English is nationally known to be the set language, sadly, you speak english, not american.

No, I speak American. Stop debating this. It's not getting you anywhere.

I don't tell you what languages you do and don't speak, so I'd appreciate if you would give me the same respect. Kuso?

Nope. There isn't anything English about anything I speak. I've never been to England, I'm not descended of anybody who was English, and I have no connection to anything English whatsoever.

However, myself, and every single person in my family, were born in America, have always lived in America (except for a few years where we lived in Winnipeg,) and will always live in America (except if anybody ever decides to move back into the Winnipeg house.)

Therefore, I speak American. Not English. American. Just like how Australians speak Australian, and not English or American. Remon?

Re: How many languages do you speak?

Oh could you PLEASE stop debating in this thread? At least discuss via VMs.
Besides, your discussion doesn't make sense AT ALL.
    Clint thinks he speaks American.
    Angel thinks Clint speaks English.
That's it. You're not making any points. You don't seem to WANT to understand the other one. So please STOP debating!
(Otherwise, I fear there will be some warnings... the topic of this thread is "how many languages do you speak?" and not "which language does Clint speak?" - I suppose you know what I mean.)

    @Topic:
I speak English - who would've guessed?!?! I suppose everyone on here is able to speak English. (That's also my "example sentence" of that language XD Just kidding ^^)

Also, I still speak a bit of French, though I don't remind any words. I can still make sentences, so I know the grammar. But unfortunately I don't speak it actively anymore (since I'm out of school), so I wouldn't understand anything.
Yet, I still remind one sentence: "Je ne parle pas francais." (which means "I don't speak French" XD) I need that one to tell people that I'm not able to speak French. *coughs*

Like Xanatos I speak German as well. "Ich spreche kein Deutsch." (<- "I don't speak German." XD Just kidding, again. ^^)
An example sentence... hm. "Vor mir steht ein Hamster. Ist er nicht süß?" (<- "There's a hamster in front of me. Isn't it cute?" Yes, there REALLY is a hamster right in front of me. So that was the only thing I could think of. XD)

Also, I tried to learn Latin once, but I don't remind ANY word. And I know some words in Russian because my boyfriend wants to learn Russian.

But other than the three mentioned at the beginning, I wouldn't say I can really speak those languages. And my French is getting worse and worse and worse and worse.. ._."

Re: How many languages do you speak?

    I speak English. *Revelation*

Although technically I speak New Zealand English. Which means we use -ise, not -ize; centre, not center; and so on. In addition, we have phrases that we have incorporated into our language from the Maori language that are so frequently used that they are beyond the point of being another language (there's a term for this -- just like how I can say faux pas and, if you speak English, you know what I mean, despite it being French).

Examples include kia ora (hello; thank you), morena (good morning), and ka pai (good work; 'thumbs up', congratulations).

I do speak a little more Maori, mostly useful phrases, and I mostly remember my he mihi (an introduction about yourself which you perform on the marae (meeting house) grounds, and includes a family and land genealogy (your whakapapa (ancestors), and the mountains and rivers near your home which you consider part of yourself). It's a little bit redundant knowing Maori though, unfortunately. Any one who knows Maori also speaks English.

    Example:

Kei te pehea koe? [Kay tee pee-ha kweh] (How are you?)

Kei te pai [Kay tee pie] (I'm fine thanks)

I can piece together longer phrases, but not perfectly, and my grammar isn't tops.

I know French better than Maori, having learnt it for a few years in college (high school), and because both my parents are fluent in it (as well as Latin, although they're out of practice for both).

    Comment allez-vous? (How are you?)

    Tres bien (Very well)

I wouldn't say I speak it. I can read it slowly, and form terrible sentences. I usually cheat and use Google Translate, but I'm not completely inept at it. I'm taking two intermediate papers in it at university (college) next year, to round off my degree.

I've never been into linguistics. There's a lot I should learn, at least another language while seeing places they can still speak English. One of these days, I might have to see Paris.

Re: How many languages do you speak?

I love how this thread limits the language barrier to spoken languages. Nice. I am not going to limit my response to this preset standard.

As for me I speak American English and not a whole lot more unless bad English counts. As for unspoken languages, ASL would be my second language. For those that don't know that stands for American Sign Language which is indeed a language that does not require things to be spoken. Yay for sarcasm.

Re: How many languages do you speak?

haha was going to say the same thing Meier but you beat me to it! bastard ahem anyways I can speak some pretty articulate English if I do say so myself, and I've taken a few years of Spanish so I can speak it in a pinch and know enough to do some communication with some hispanic kids I work with. I also have picked up on some sign language as well so I can communicate to children who don't speak normally. Not an expert on the last two by any means but I know enough to get by

Then again this one is kind of on the outs with me if she doesn't straighten up and fly right so that means I will be back in it for the thrill of the kill. Got some in the reserves. Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.

Block: I do like the rePETEr except it kinda makes it sound like you're going to pork Pete. No homo.

Re: How many languages do you speak?

I speak English, and I'm in the process of learning Spanish and Arabic. (of course, I'm sure I could say that about English as well. ) I would also like to learn a couple more languages, but it's too difficult to learn too many at one time.

    Bare with my boring sentences.

Estoy estudiando español para aprenderlo. (I'm studying Spanish in order to learn it.)

.أدرس اللغة العربية لكى أعلّمها (I'm studying Arabic in order to learn it.)

So far both languages are very fun to learn. I would say that Arabic might be a little bit better, though, because it is a lot more difficult. The dots everywhere are killers.

Eventually, I would also like to learn Chinese, Japanese, and perhaps Italian or French since I hear they are so similar to Spanish.

How many languages do you speak?

Fluently: Three- English, Tres- Spanish, San- Chinese.

Hello everyone! My name is Michael. I am 24 years old.
Hola todos! Me llamo Miguel. Yo viente y cuatro anos.
Ni men hao! Wo jiao Mi Ke. Wo er shur se sway.

I was born in Tucson, Arizona, where English and Spanish are both commonplace. Then, in school, my parents wanted me to take home courses at home, after regular public school. I had always had a love for language.

I can also speak several other languages, but I don't know how to write it.
Those languages are French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Russian. I learned these languages from native speakers that lived in my neighborhood when I was younger. I was never taught how to write in those languages.

In order to not have my language skills slip away, I watch news programs, cartoons, and even TV dramas in foreign languages.

I speak English of course, and I can speak a little latin not very much though.

I am pretty good with spanish. Not sure if I will ever actually need it.

I took a few courses in Arabic. This was simply to assist me oversea's.

I also speak a little German. This is just so that I could talk with my old kick boxing coach. Who was German.

Sitting here waiting for Rocky, and Che to notice me!!
