i pronounce it can-a-duh. But as far as it is concerned to me, it means little to nothing seeing the 4th of July is coming up this friday, being I am from the states and not Canada I have little to no intrest in it, but heck drink a beer for me and I will return the favor on the 4th!!!

Can-nay-dia is the joke way of saying Ca-nid-da.

Yes, I'm foreign and I have problems with saying CAN-A-DAH.

Shoot me. Also, I don't care about Canada, or Canada Day. Sorry, but I barely even give a crap about English, Polish, Russian or Ukranian-related holidays, either.

    CANADA ROCKS!!!!!

    I pronounce it Ca-nay-dia or Can-a-da.

    O Canada!
    Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

    From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

The reason I wouldn't live for you is because I would die for you.
The reason why I'm not willing to do anything for you is because I would do everything for you.
The reason I chose my life is because you ARE my life

In the interest of protecting my brothers over the Northern border, I'm going to make a relevant post.

    Quote Originally Posted by Wikipedia'd
On June 20, 1868, then Governor General Lord Monck issued a royal proclamation asking for Canadians to "celebrate the anniversary of the confederation."[5] However, the holiday was not established statutorily until 1879, when it was designated as Dominion Day, in reference to the designation of the country as a Dominion in the British North America Act, 1867. The holiday was initially not dominant in the national calendar; up to the early 20th century, Canadians thought themselves to be primarily British, being thus less interested in celebrating distinctly Canadian forms of patriotism. No official celebrations were therefore held until 1917 – the golden anniversary of Confederation – and then none again for a further decade.[6]

This trend declined in the post-World War II era; beginning in 1958, the Canadian government began to orchestrate Dominion Day celebrations, usually consisting of Trooping the Colour ceremonies on Parliament Hill in the afternoon and evening, followed by a mass band concert and fireworks display. Canada's centennial in 1967 is often seen as an important milestone in the history of Canadian patriotism, and in Canada's maturing as a distinct, independent country, after which Dominion Day became more popular with average Canadians. Into the late 1960s, nationally televised, multi-cultural concerts held in Ottawa were added, and the fête became known as Festival Canada; after 1980 the Canadian government began to promote the celebrating of Dominion Day beyond the national capital, giving grants and aid to cities across the country to help fund local activities.

The name was officially changed to Canada Day on October 27, 1982, a move largely inspired by the adoption of the Canada Act, earlier in the year. However, many Canadians had already been informally referring to the holiday as Canada Day for a number of years before the official name change.[7]

As the anniversary of Confederation, Dominion Day, and later Canada Day, was the date set for a number of important events, such as the inauguration of the CBC's cross-country television broadcast (1958), the flooding of the Saint Lawrence Seaway (1958), the first colour television transmission in Canada (1966), the inauguration of the Order of Canada (1967), and the establishment of "O Canada" as the country's national anthem (1980). Other events fell on the same day coincidentally, such as the first day of the Battle of the Somme in 1916 – shortly after which the province of Newfoundland and Labrador recognized July 1 as Memorial Day to commemorate the Newfoundland Regiment's heavy losses during the battle[8][9] – and the enactment of the Chinese Immigration Act in 1923 – leading Chinese-Canadians to refer to July 1 as Humiliation Day and boycott Dominion Day celebrations, until the act was repealed in 1947.[10]
So basically, Canada Day celebrates the day that the British Colonies came together, or something along that line blah blah I was too lazy to read all of it.

Apparently, according to my dad, I'm French Canadian, so I should care. But I don't.

Then again, I could be super cool and just type up the Canadian national Anthem. Oh wait.
Let's go into the "archives" in "Washington D.C." and find out how people "masturbated" in the "roaring 20's."

In English I pronounce it as can-a-duh.
In Portuguese I say Canadá (here it's written with a ´ on the last a) as all the others Portuguese people say it: cuh-nuh-dá (the a in dá is pronounced roughly like the a in Mars)

There are so many spam posts here... I didn't know today was Canada Day. Thanks James, that was pretty interesting and I'm glad you posted it. I doubt I would have ever looked it up myself. I'm probably more interested in the 4th of July because I live in the United States too, but it was interesting to know. Also why is everyone posting their pronunciations? It seems like just about everyone pronounces it pretty much the same.
