I love the antisemitism being coupled with the anti KKK theme...

I can't read Norwegian, but I think the point of this (and I'd say it was post-1945) is a cynical attitude toward American help to rebuild Europe, and that the cartoonist is suggesting that it would refashion Europe in its image, which I imagine many Europeans were (and are, to some extent) hesitant of. That's why the figure is crushing all those beautiful buildings, and you can see American ones looming on the horizon. It's kinda silly though since the Europeans did a pretty good job of destroying their own buildings.

Actually, here are some better/more correct interpretations than my own: http://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments...rmany_in_1944/. Now I think mine is entirely wrong.

As for those who don't know what the sign says: It should say "USA will save/rescue Europe's culture from downfall." (I don't know if it's Norwegian, but it really LOOKS like bad English spoken by Germans. Really. That's why I was able to read it. )

Plus, the heading would be "cultural terror".

Just so you know. Sometimes it's good to know German.

As for the interpretation - I would have interpreted it in the same way as Alpha did. Oo

Edit: Oh, there's also a translation of the Norwegian text mentioned on the page Alpha posted: "By what right?" Interesting. ^^

Victims of their time, though interestingly enough not much has changed. Funny that.
