This is probably WHY she wants you away from the video games. Not meaning to be offensive but you should talke a break from FFVII. It isn't like it will kill you.
Why not try something productive to do? Like, go outside. Socialise. Anything to get your mind off the game. Your girlfriend just wants you to pay more attention to her.
By all means, play the game but just try and prioritize it bit better.
Girlfriend > Video Game.

Jin...I want you to know... That was one of the funniest ****ing things I've ever seen in my life. Thank you. But yes, the step, between enjoying a good game and obsessing for the majority of your life, is all too brief.
But in defense of these people. I went through a similar phase, and so did you Jin, or else you couldn't even explain your presence here. The thing is...there is a time to enjoy these things and a time to move on. My father was the same way about Lord of the Rings and Star Trek. My Mom was the same way about Star Wars.
It's something people do...do and then move on, that is.

Any woman who stops telling me to play FF or video games in general can go **** off. Seriously, who cares? I understand that if someone who plays video games so much they can't have a social life (I'm looking at people who love WoW, for example), then yes, they should give it up, but just playing FF is something I should be able to do on my own time.
So yes, given the circumstances, if I were playing FF way too much and not giving my girlfriend enough attention, I'd stop playing, but never would I give it up completely or video games in general. If a lover wanted my attention, they can ask for it.
Or, you can always have the best case scenario when they demand your attention, via polishing you off while you keep playing.
But yeah, if you're ever trying to break up with a girl who just won't take no for an answer, just keep playing video games until she leaves. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes she'll blow you on the spot...with the controller in your hand.
and Jin, it's so true.

Well...Haha, not everyone is created equal. Some people take things a little more seriously than others. But you at least underwent a similar obsession, whether or not you took it to his extreme. But yea, I agree, that anything can be taken too far. But during my FFVII phase I was obsessed with Sephiroth. Mainly because he was unlike the majority of villains I had ever known. Now, of course, he's just a caricature of a generic type of villain.
It's all a matter of surviving it, though. I can look back and go..."God, I was fan-boyish."
I bet he will too.

The fact that you can't figure out why people are laughing at you. What is making me so crazy?
Some get annoyed when people go on publicly about their emotional problems. When the aforementioned people add Final Fantasy into the mix, the feeling of annoyance transforms into something halfway between embarrassment and bewilderment. What can we do but laugh? Watch the video, you'll understand. You sound silly.

Oh, we call it English. You're not quite at the level of writing it yet, so I understand the confusion, but when you get there you'll see that it is a language. A considerable one at that. Just keep at it. =)Originally Posted by Secret Weapon

I find it fairly upseting at how this bickering has went on for so long and no one has steped in to stop it.
So Jin, SW has found something in his life that had (being the key word) helped him through troubled times, he has said it multiple times, had meaning past tense.
I really don't see how the last few post have contributed to this thread at all on anyones behalf. Over all he was asking what he should do and I am quite sure he didn't intend on someone blasting for a different reason. I am pretty sure this isn't the "hey I like FFVII thread and I play it to much in your opinion, so blast me for it thread"
So what he found something he could relate to in a game, so he enjoys playing it. How would you feel if someone chastized you for some thing you hold dear?
But as SW said the problem has been resolved, or atleast for now. And the way I read it he basicly has requested this thread be closed. Seeing he is the creator he has the right to do so. The main topic is over because SW has said that the problem is resolved, so I really don't see a reason for it still being open.
And to SW, calm down. In all honesty jin is right when he says they are his own opinions. You have 3 choices. Take them, leave them, or ignore them. I advise choosing one of the 3 and letting it be.

SW, glad your dispute got settled for the time being. I may not understand it, but to each his own. But you did start this thread and invite other people into your personal business. If you don't like when people disagree with you, post threads like this at your own risk.

I WOULD NOT GIVE UP GAMES for any1, but I would stop playing so much and chill for a while, but i deffinitly would never give up games and FF!!! PERIOD.!!!!
You wouldn't? No offense, but maybe you should widen your thinking. Think about it this way: Give up you girlfriend/boyfriend for FF. Does that make sense? Then again, having a companion that understands your like of FF is good. Just make sure that you are not falling into the "otaku" category. (If you don't know, Wikipedia is your friend.)

Everything is art... But is art everything?
Realize that you're in a possibly fruitless relationship with an immature person and continue to do your own thing. Life at young ages isn't about sacrifices for someone else, it's about you.
You have decades of sacrifices ahead. This is your time.
Unless you're already an adult, at which case, my point is moot. I'm just assuming you're younger due to the way you type (no offense intended)
Personally, at this stage of my life, could I give up Final Fantasy for a loved one?
Sure, but I don't see myself having a "loved one" that would ever require me to do so, as I rarely play Final Fantasy these days. WoW, on the other hand... I'd choke a bitch before giving that up. <.<; Kidding, of course.

Well, by giving up as in like never playing any FF every again or just limit your playing to like, once every now and then lol.
Giving it up completely is a great feat to do. SE will still be creating more FF games, new stories, new characters, new events. Even if the newer games aren't "great" they are still FF games and I for one wish to play all of them. But then again, the memories of FF1-12, plus X-2 and Tactics are more then enough to keep me happy.
People take video games far too seriously. If a loved one asks you to give up something as trivial as Final Fantasy, then you know that you're spending too much time playing video games, whereas, you could have spend that time building a stronger relationship to that person. Seeing as how absurd some of the posts in this thread are (i.e., dumping your girlfriend/boyfriend for wanting to build a relationship, whereas, you just want to play video games), I believe that many people here need psychiatric help. I'm sorry to tell you this, but it's just a video game. You can definitely live without it.
I agree. It's sad that people choose machines over other people. It's hard to believe, really. You'd think human life has more significance than some mere video game that's meant to be played as a hobby, not as a life-changing/worshipped/more-important-than-lovedones contraption. Seriously. If you think FF7 is better than a person.. you really need to get out more. And I'm not trying to put anyone down.. it's just ridiculous that people hold a mere video game above someone they love or could love.
The only thing that I see "life-changing" about Final Fantasy 7 is that it lead me to these forums and allowed me to meet Nathan. That's really the only thing it does is brings people together. And that I thank it for. But I don't think it's more important than people.. it's just a video game. A HOBBY.
And to add to that.. in a fire, who would you save? Your beloved person/animal? Or your video game collection? Really now..

I could not have said the better myself. That pretty much sums up the whole point of this thread. I would give up FF for a loved one. If you wouldn't you may need some serious help. Everything is art... But is art everything?
I play FFXI quite a lot, but still as a game, I've never had emotional feelings towards FF characters in general, well maybe masturbating to Tifa... j/k.
My girlfriend knows I play it a lot, but she also knows I would never play it instead of doing something with her for an example. Some people are like "ow yeah I got clan event then, go play with yourself, sorry". My girlfriend comes on the first place, but I wouldn't stop playing the games in total, since it's a part of me as something I enjoy doing, same with martial arts, not quitting that stuff ever.
Luckily my girlfriend hasn't asked me ever to stop playing or anything of that sorts, she plays piano...hell she even started playing some FF tunes on the piano now, very cute!
<3 her, yay!
Peace out
Blargh?!?!
Wow... that's a very good question to be honest. I guess I can't really say unless the ime actually comes, but if when or if it does it'll be a very, very hard decision. But I would choose Love over Final Fantasy, because Love is just... well... LOVE! But Final Fantasy, mainly FFVII has made me gamer, If my mates start talking sh!t about games that suck compared to the games they like *cough* Halo 3 addicts *cough* I'd just support myself with Final Fantasy VII and the rest.
I will always have Final Fantasy with me forever, 'cuz I'm considering getting VII tattoo'd under my Right Bicep, not only because It's my Lucky number (Being born on the 7/7/92, 9-2 = 7) but because FFVII will always have an impact on my life.

I'm still gonna have to say that human contact trumps gaming any day of the week. Even as much fun as it is to get some buddies together and play Horde in Gears 2 on Live, I'd still much rather actually chill with them in person than play games.
Also, I've gotta say that getting a tat of VII is a wee bit extreme.
This whole thing fascinates me so much though. How can you possibly be that obsessed with a freakin videogame. It'll never EVER do the same things for you that other human beings can do. That's pretty much all I can say about the matter. If you're blowing off friends for a game, then it's time to get some help.
SOLDIERcHoSeNCrao Porr Cock8- Rebels, Rogues and Sworn Brothers
What is so hard about quitting a video for a loved one. I'd do it if they wanted me to, because, get this, I love them and like making them happy. Real life is way cooler than video games anyway.
Video games aren't like drugs, they're not psychically addictive, therefore unless you have wound yourself up in such a mental state that you feel like you need to play the game you should have no problem stopping playing the game. Why do relationships have anything to do with final fantasy anyway, it strikes me as a little immature.
I'm now half tempted to get a giant 'VI' tattoo on one half of my chest and a moogle sprite tattoo on the other. Fake of course, as I wouldn't want to be stuck with them for all my life. =D
As far as I see an issue like this...
If someone loves you, than they shouldn't mind you having hobbies unless you're obsessed to the point where you're actually neglecting that loved one for the hobby. And even then they should tell you and if you really care for the person enough you should cut back on your hobby. Priorities!
I'd hate to be with someone who wouldn't allow me to pursue my own interests, but on the other hand, I'd hate myself if I were lame enough to forsake a loved one for a hobby, especially one like a videogame. Sometimes you need to talk things through, occasionally you might be with the wrong person if they're trying to force you to bend in a direction you don't want to go.
But yeah, priorities. There are definetely people out there who'd give anything and everything for a significant other, even to the point of becoming a completely dependant leech creature thing.
