I checked the first 5 pages and I haven't seen anything related with what I'm going to talk about, so nobody better start blaming me for what happens!
Anyways: gift ideas!
That's it. I was strolling around this place like I usually do and I was thinking: "Hey, why not make some sort of catalogue for people to refer to in some near future!!"
Why? For reasons such as:
-A friend's birthday party
-A present for your boyfriend or girlfriend
-You children's holiday and "special" presents: X-mas, easter, birthday, etc
I know that most people manage to buy some present at the end based on what the person likes and so on, but a few or so ideas never hurt don't they? Save the trouble of the worrying part at the beginning why don't ya!
What do you guys think? I think this won't be too bad. I don't know about you guys, but I find giving cold hard cash at the end is too ... well, sad. I'd rather want something which will last a really long time. The memories and great times from it, and so on.
So in other words, if anyone has any ideas you would like to give to others, this is the thread! A little idea which is "cool" and also on the economic side wouldn't hurt!
Onwards!

Well I was wondering the past few days about what to give for my older sister as she had a new baby , I have no idea at all and I thought some money would work so even If I failed to know what she really needs , she can bring it herself by that money . So far I don't really know what to present
The idea of buying her an expensive watch has just sparked!
Money.

For little kids (under 9) you usually can't go wrong with books, so that's what I bought the boys this Christmas.
Though I'm with Loaf on this one. Money is always good.
If you know someone quite well, and they really like something (whether it is a band, a perfume, an item of clothing they need) get them something like that. My mum, for example is a big Queen fan, so I got her the '40 Years of Queen' book for Christmas. I hope she likes it.

The less chance we have of being killed." ~ William Topaz McGonagall (1830-1902)
All or most of my friends who I'd by gifts for are gamers. So my money runs thin very easily around birthdays and other special occasions lol.
My mother is hard to buy for sometimes. Her tastes change a lot, and I fear getting her a gift she'll reject or something she already has. On Mother's Day this year, I bought her Adelle's two albums 19 and 21, and then spent the rest of the day dragging her away from the music section in Tesco and HMV because she wanted to buy them. ><
It's easier just to ask what someone would like, and get them something unexpected to go with it. Money is just a cop out option, even though it stops you from ending up with that unwanted flower vase you'll never use, or that woolly jumper you'll never wear - I just prefer a little thought to go into a gift.
Take a big wad of cash, and wrap it in nice wrapping paper. A good amount to give would be, I would say, $500,000. I know it's not much, but at least it's something.
You can't go wrong with money, ever. If you want to get something more permanent than ask someone else for help. I have my friends friends help me shop for my friends...did you follow that .
None shall escape judgement, all shall fall by my blade.

This may sound cheesy, but handmade gifts are the way to go. But only if you have a talent for something of that calibur. You don't want to get a reaction like this:
"Oh, you shouldn't have. Really, you shouldn't have."
Or this one:
"Oh my, thank you. What is it?"
Now, not only are handmade gifts cheaper, but they make for memorable gifts. Your giftee will spend the money or gift card and never think twice about it. With something made, they will always know the time and effort you put into it.
If you write well, write a poem and put it in a picture frame. One year I gave my best friend a posterboard sized acrostic poem I had written. To this day it hangs in her hallway. And it has been ten years.
If you an exceptional artist; draw, sculpt, paint, etc., whatever it is that the person makes you feel. The key in any handmade gift if the feeling.
Or, you could go for the funny gift. One Christmas, I found the biggest box I had ever seen, and inside it I put another box. This went on for 6 boxes. Each of the boxes was neatly wrapped. Now, this was a present for my sister (back before she became evil). I had just learned she was smoking cigarettes. So, the smallest box was about the size of a small box of staples. Inside this box was one cigarette. It is the only time I will ever ask my mother for a cigarette in my life. My sister still talks about it to her friends, and doesn't let me forget it.
Social Group Endorsements, TFF Awards, and Other Accomplishments (Updated December 26, 2013):
I've always been pretty useless at choosing presents. I always want the person to be amazed at what I get them. Inevitably they'll just be like 'oh, okay... Cool. Thanks' but I try again the following year in hope of them being like 'HOLY HEEEEEELLLLLL, YOU-YOU GOT ME THIS!? *explode*'
Money is always a good one like everyone else has said. I prefer thought as well but I wouldn't sniff at some money in a card. Means I can buy games and dvds.

Money's always good, for a personal touch, pick out a fitting card.
And if they drink, a well thought out bottle of wine can be a winner if you know their tastes. Some wines even have a little chocolate accent which is handy for all the chocoholics out there.

We're (sort of ) straying from the point. If people have an idea, please feel free to post it here. This is, after all, not really much of an opinionated thread.
Though, I still don't understand how money will solve everything.
Anyways, here is mine:

The occassion depends on the person. There are many different styles: people/characters, sports, angels/demons, etc. Some stores offer personal and engraved. For pratical use, the person can use it everyday as they're going out and driving in their car. Plus it's not that expensive to buy one. A recent one in which I bought in a trip was 6 dollars.
The benefits: lasts for a while, take them around everyday wherever the person goes.

That's ****ing nasty.
I don't buy people anything useless. For example, a nice keychain that fits somebodies' personality might work as a secondary gift, but I couldn't live with myself JUST buying something like a keychain that they wouldn't find any real use for. I'm one of those gifters that considers what somebody needs. If they don't need anything, I go with something I know they'll love or that they've wanted for a while.
It's impossible to give you any ideas for this thread because gifts are always so person-specific, for me anyway. I couldn't just say 'a teddy bear works for anybody' because that would be dumb.
If I can't figure out what I can buy for somebody, I don't know them well enough to buy them something.
