    Friday the 13th

I have a confession to make. There's only one night of the year I'm actually afraid of ghosts. That's on Friday the 13th. I basically confirmed this last night when I thought something was in my room and I couldn't sleep. (There also might have been alcohol involved, but I don't want to talk about that. I'm not a paranoid person, but I was freakin paranoid last night)

Does anyone else have any superstitions or know of any? Do you lift your feet when you're crossing over train tracks because you think it's good luck? Do you hold your breath when you're passing by a cemetery? What do you do?

    Re: Friday the 13th

One of my previous step-dads (way to make it sound like you've had loads lol...) used to make us shout "Elephant!" when we drove under bridges. He said it was good luck, or to stop the bridge falling on you or something. I believed it for a while until I realised it was just stupid.

One Friday a few years ago, my nan wasn't feeling very good. When my mum got home, I went out with friends thinking nothing of it. A black cat crossed my path on the way home, and when I got home my nan was really ill and my mum and current (fml) step-dad had had a row. She was in hospital by the next morning. I blamed the black cat for a few days or a week until my nan came home, but realised that was stupid too. It was just a cat and my nan was already sick before I'd left the house.

I don't have any superstitions. Do I believe in ghosts? Yes. Do I believe in other intelligent life? Yes. Do I believe that breaking a mirror gives me seven years bad luck? No. Superstition is just an outdated method of control, and there's other real stuff to be scared of in life than an old wives tale.

    Re: Friday the 13th

This'll seem weird, but my family is anti-superstitious. We slink under ladders and have black cats cross our paths (we own 3 of them, so it's unavoidable) on a regular basis, without a trace of superstition. Sorry.

I am a bit superstitious, yes. I will not step over three drains and if any of my friends do I make them say "toast" after. When I was little I heard saying toast cancelled the bad luck, and I'm fully aware that it's likely bogus, but it puts my mind to rest lol. I won't walk underneath a ladder or scaffolding either but that's a mix of both fear and superstition. I don't won't them to fall on me

I do believe in Ghosts and stuff, though I've never seen one. I tried to do an Ouija board with my friends before but it didn't work, that was a disappointment.

I've never heard about holding your breath while passing a cemetery before haha.

    Re: Friday the 13th

I ride by a cemetery when I go to work. If I was to hold my breath when I go by, I would probably pass out from lack of oxygen. And I have black cats cross my path all the time, both at work and at home. I truly think there are more cats in my town than people. And due to the conditions of roads, sidewalks, and other walkways in my neighborhood; if stepping on a crack was true, my mother would have had a broken back for about 10+ years.

There are some superstitions I follow, but not because of the actual superstition. For example, walking under a ladder. I don't want to bump into the ladder and possibly make whoever is on fall or be unable to come down from wherever it is they needed the ladder to reach.

And breaking a mirror. I think this one is true. Kinda. I know that if I were to break a mirror, my Mom would make sure I had seven years of bad luck. Or seven years of lectures and back-breaking chores to pay for it.

    Re: Friday the 13th

I just opened an umbrella INSIDE and I'm feelin' fine. I have opened umbrellas inside numerous times and I don't think I have bad luck.

I'm not superstitious, I think about it and I wonder... But yeah I don't care.

A lot of my superstitions are based on sports. Never mention a potential perfect game. No shaving during a winning streak.

I also do some of the classics. I try hard not to step on cracks. I only pick up pennies if it is heads up. Since my favorite number is 8, I will often use that when it comes to picking items, like picking the 8th item in the 8th row.

Who walks to school anymore? There aren't automobiles where you come from?

Anyway, I'm not superstitious. Like taking the Lord's name in vain, for example. Some people fear doing that because it's a "sin" and can get them sent to hell, or some shit. But I'm the Goddamn Clint Eastwood, and if the Lord has a problem with that, I'll send his ass to hell.

I don't pick pennies up if they're on tails. It's not that I'm superstitious, it's that I appreciate when Abraham Lincoln looks me in the eyes and submits to me. I will sternly tell a penny on tails to turn over, and if it doesn't, then I'll send Abraham Lincoln's ass straight to hell.

As for holding my breath when going by cemeteries, I don't hold my breath for the dead. The dead hold their breath for me. If they don't, I'll dig them up, reanimate them, shoot them all in their ****ing heads, and send their asses to hell, along with the Lord and Abraham Lincoln.

    Re: Friday the 13th

I honestly believe superstitions are for OCD people.
For example, saying toast after walking over drains.
Yelling elephant when passing under a bridge.

If the bridge falls, you cant stop it.
If the drain breaks, youre probably going to fall in.
    Whatever.

You could also get hit by a meteor on any given day.
What do you do to prevent that?

Washing your hands three times in a row is for mechanics on lunchbreak. Worry about things you can actually control, like your physical condition, your credit and maintaining your car (because Im sure someone on here is one of those doofs who drives around with a screeching belt. It costs 10 bucks. Fix it.)
