Extremely Old Parents

Me and Ann were talking about this 60 year old woman who's pregnant, I don't see anything wrong with this besides the fact that it's gonna suck for the kid. By the time the child is 10, his mom will be 70 years old. I understand that maybe it could have been someone who had been trying to get pregnant for a long time and couldn't until now, but still I don't know how I feel about that, it just makes things complicated for the child if there's not another parent around. I think that maybe there should be a limit up until when it's okay to have kids. I mean, my dad is about 60 now and I'm almost 19^^;

Holy shit 60 years old. As for the limit, I don't think there should be one. I mean shit just cause she is 60 that doesn't mean much. My great grandma is 78, and she still gets out everyday, and runs a mile. Don't know how she does it, but damnit she does...

Yeah that definitely sucks for the kid. They will probably have to end up looking after the parent as soon as senility hits which could be within a few years. Even worse past 60 a person is liable to die at any time unfortunately which leaves the kid in a predicament.

If the doctor says they can have children then I guess their right? I mean I honestly think my parents were old when I was born, and they were in their 30's. I know some people who's parent was 50 when they were born.

I hear that it's better for a woman to have kids before the age of 36, because after that, a woman's fertility goes down, and rapidly decreases after 40. By 45, it is rare to get pregnant, even if the woman is still menstruating. If she wants one though and is able to do so, then go ahead.

I wouldn't want to have a child when I'm that old, but that's just me. I would want to see my kids have kids, so I can be a grandmother.

I can't say my parents are very old but I have experienced the death of one and it sent me spiraling to mental kingdom come(I've recovered but I'll always be different from it ) and for the likely chance that the kid has to go through that is really sad

Also, take into the fact that as a woman gets older, there is a greater risk for the baby to develop a congenital disorder or to miscarry. Not saying that it will always happen, but the risk does get higher. Women are born with all the eggs that they'll ever have during thier lifetime, and the quality of the egg generally goes down after a significant amount of time.

It's a risk for the woman too. If her doctor says it's ok, I guess it is.

Maybe it was an accident though. She might have thought she was in her menopause (which wouldn't be abnormal at 60), believing taking the pill wouldn't be necessary anymore at her age.

I remember reading in the bible and hearing the story about it where Abraham and Sarah were blessed with a child at 80 years old! its an amazing story. So yeah, its not that unusual for mothers to be old unless they're 80.

Props for being pregnant at that age but the kid might have a rough time, after all no one want's to see their parents in their worse or to loss them at young age.

I remember reading The Lord of the Rings. There was this little fellow who had a ring that made him invisible. So yeah, it's not that unusal to be invisible when you're short, unless you have hairy feet as well.

So because of that story of Abraham and Sarah, it's only unusual when she's 80?
