    Best of Sports

There's not enough sport discussion here on TFF, this thread may help to change that. Bellow are few simple questions, if I missed something in particular feel free to add as long as it's related to sport.

*What's your favorite sport, and why?

*How often do you watch sports on TV?

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both currently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?
With that being done, I shall answer my own questions.

*What's your favorite sport, and why?

My favorite sport is football, soccer for you Yanks. I started watching football with my father, who's also an avid fan. He even named me, and my brother by famous football players, shame though both of us never were good at it. Still, I took interest in football very early in my life, over the years I gained an impressive knowledge as far as football goes.

*How often do you watch sports on TV?

It really depends, I usually watch sports on weekends, when England's Premier League, and German Bundesliga are going on, though Champions League is on Tuesday and Wednesday. I do watch other sports whenever I have time, so I would say quite often.

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?

Usually fans support their local team, not me though. I've grown fond of a team that's not even in my country, what can I say, blue is the color. I started supporting Chelsea for a silly reason really, but it was a start nevertheless. I remember when I was a brat, me and my friend watched a match between Chelsea and Liverpool. I was sure the blue team would win so we placed a bet, Liverpool won of course, and I lost my bet. It didn't really matter, I continued to follow the blue team ever since then.

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?

Rarely do I miss to watch Chelsea play, I knew to skip school just to watch the game. I do feel sad, sometimes even angry when they lose, victory alone on the other hand can make my day. I was there supporting Chelsea through both success and crisis, do these things not qualify me as a hardcore fan, but then again it really depends what other may define as hardcore fan.

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both curently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?

Even though some might disagree with my choice, at this moment Xavi Hernandez is by far the best player out there. Messi, who's also an excellent player, showed what it means to play with, and without Xavi, hence perfect performance in Barcelona, and just the opposite while playing for Argentina. Xavi on the other hand was brilliant on both club, and national level, a damn shame he wasn't awarded for the best player this year.

I was lucky to be born in probably the best period for football, time where some of the best players were on the field. Baggio, Bergkamp, Gianfranco Zola, Zidane, Marco van Basten, Schmeichel, Maldini, just to name few, the best one though, is Ronaldo as far as I'm concern. Ronaldo would score with such ease, it was simply unbelievable. The way he would make any defense to look like a bunch of kids, truly an il fenomeno.

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?

I've seen many great games, though only one blew everyone, including me, away. 2005 Champions League final, Milan against Liverpool. Wouldn't be far away if I called it the best match in history of football. Milan went on halftime with advantage of 3-0, the game was already over according to many, boy were they wrong.

I don't know what Rafa said to his players at halftime, but whatever he did it worked. Liverpool managed to score three goals in second halftime, thus securing the extra time where both teams missed several opportunities to take the lead. Winner had to be decided by taking the penalties, Liverpool was far better team at penalties, thus won at the end despite being at huge disadvantage in second halftime.

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?

I used to, not anymore though. Last time I played something close to sport was actually a sport video game. Guess I became too lazy, I should really come to my senses, and chase that ball a little bit, or at least table tennis

    Re: Best of Sports

*What's your favorite sport, and why?
It depends. My favorite sport to play is baseball, since I've been doing it my entire life, but my favorite sport to watch is football. It gets incredibly intense and exciting, but to me, nothing beats actually getting out there and playing.

*How often do you watch sports on TV?
I'll try to watch as many Mets games as I can, and I'll try to attend as many as my schedule allows. I watch every Jets game, and I try to catch the Knicks and Islanders when I can.

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?
My favorite teams are the Mets, Jets and Islanders. I've followed these teams my entire life, and I've essentially inherited them, since my dad was always a huge fan of them, and it was just always there in the house. I can't help but like them.

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?
As discussed in the other sports thread, I do say I'm a hardcore fan of my teams. I try to follow them as closely as I can, and I will try to attend as many games as I can. I also follow the offseason transactions and try to keep up with everything that's going on, as well as embracing the histories of my teams.

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both currently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?
Well, they're not necessarily my favorites, but I'll list them anyway:
Baseball: Albert Pujols. Sick glove at first and all he does is crush the ball. No brainer.
Football: Depends on if you're talking offense or defense. I would say that Brady and Darrelle Revis are the best in the business when it comes to individual accomplishments. Brady is just Brady, and Revis is so good that people don't even throw in his direction anymore.
Hockey: Right now it's Crosby or Ovechkin. Both young players and on ridiculous tears.
Basketball: Kobe. I know Lebron might be younger and have more potential, but Kobe's already got several rings.

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?

    Baseball Video Highlights & Clips | BB Moments: 9/21/01: Mike Piazza's post-9/11 HR - Video | MLB.com: Multimedia

This was Mike Piazza's home run against the Braves, on September 21, 2001, in the first pro baseball game played after 9/11. I remember watching this game in my house, and the energy was just amazing. You could feel something lift, as a New Yorker, after that homerun. It was an unbelievable feeling, that maybe things were going to be alright, and that maybe one day things can be normal again. The video still sends chills down my spine.

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?

Oh, I don't play anything professionally. If I did, I certainly wouldn't have time for TFF. I play baseball and softball for the most part, but I'm always down to play a little football and ultimate frisbee, and even roller hockey, so long as I'm goalie.

    Re: Best of Sports

This site is very VERY focused on Tff, self sympathy, and self sympathetic music...getting away from those topics and having a meaningful discussion is hard as ****.....

    Nevertheless, I will answer:

*What's your favorite sport, and why?
Football. Because I was real good and I love the Dallas Cowboys. Also my love for hockey has fallen off because the Leafs suck gaping ass..

*How often do you watch sports on TV?
Daily. If there is no game on in my area I watch the sports highlights...currently I am fiending for more Blake Griffen

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?
Dallas Cowboys are my team. Maple Leafs are my "i wish i didnt live in toronto but i still love them" team. Why? Because I got into football in the early 90's and Dallas had their dynasty, and for the leafs..well, try being born and raised in southern ontario and not loving them...

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?
Yes, both teams, as much as I can..."I rip it hardcore like porno flick bitches"

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both currently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?
Football = Peyton Manning. He made blair white into a fantasy stud!
Hockey = Crosby. I dare you you argue against him.

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?
Canada vs USA, Gold Medal, 2010 Olympics. A-MAZING!

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?
    Football, basketball, rugby.

Edit: Pete, jets will have a rediculous offseason of holdouts and fetish videos...I know im a Dallas fan, but sucks to be you....PS revis is sick

*What's your favorite sport, and why?
Basketball, It's fun to play, and easy to play, you only need 1 or two people to have fun with a "Bball and basket", and...I own a basketball.

*How often do you watch sports on TV?
    Never

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?
    uh...the Zanarkand Abes

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?
    ...No

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both currently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?
Bret Farve... because Stone Cold said so.

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?
Pac-man (Paquino) vs that other skinny guy in 2006. (boxing)

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?
    Basketball, Darts, easy stuff.

Never really been a big sports guy. I live in oklahoma, around here college football is life, not being into it gives you an interesting perspective on the way people behave.
Just a few years ago some OU fans killed a guy for wearing a UT Longhorns(OUs rival) hat in public. Ill google the story sometime..

    Re: Best of Sports

I totally agree that TFF is lacking with the sports discussion haha.

*What's your favorite sport, and why?
To play is soccer because I'm good at it haha, but to watch is hockey, not only being Canadian but also because it has always been such a sweet spot to watch and skating is one of the neatest things ever invented.

*How often do you watch sports on TV?
    Once a day probably

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?
    Philadelphia Flyers and Orlando Magic

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?
    Not sickly hardcore no.

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both currently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?
Currently in the NHL I'd have to say Stamkos has got Crosby beat, but I might be a little bit of a Crosby hater.

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?
Hmmm...this is a tough one, I can't really decide. I haven't been to many professional games but have been to some sweet college games.

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?
Again soccer, basketball not professionally though.

    Re: Best of Sports

What's your favourite sport, and why?
I like Badminton. I'm not even sure why, but I started playing it one Physical Education lesson and I really got into it. I was one of the best in the class at playing it too, and even got to play with my teacher a couple of times which was fun. Man, I miss that.

How often do you watch sports on TV?
Rarely. I can't think of anything more boring than watching other people play a sport, but sometimes I might catch an hour or so of the Commonwealth Games or Olympics.

What's your favourite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?
I don't really have a favourite team. Although, I'll root very briefly for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur when they play (football/soccer). Only because I ****ing hate Arsenal and I will root for any of their opposing teams. Man U because my friends will slaughter me and Hotspur because it's a family thing, and I don't want to be disowned by my father's side JUST yet.

Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?
Nope. I don't really give a monkey's uncle if they win or lose, I refuse to waste money on merchandise, and I don't waste my time infront of the television getting borderline stressed over it.

In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both currently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?
Couldn't tell you. I don't really pay attention.

If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?
When David Beckham missed that penalty at the World Cup before last. I was a little angry because he could have made that goddamned shot, but I was pissing myself with laughter because my grandmother, who HATES football, jumped out of her seat and started screaming at the television at him! When she was just about done and had called him every name under the sun, she sat back down and asked me to make her a coffee.

Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?
I used to. I used to play Badminton just for the fun of it with my friends at lunch time and in PE lessons. I also used to be on my local junior girls team for football, and took part in a few tournaments. I wasn't great, but I wasn't a bad player.

    Re: Best of Sports

*What's your favorite sport, and why?

Baseball. I grew up watching the Mets and always playing baseball with my friends in the summer. Second would be football then hockey. Hockey was second until the rule changes during the 04-05 lockout. I don't mind some like the goalies wearing smaller legs pads, but I don't like two-line offside pass change; I prefer hockey to be more of a defensive game.

*How often do you watch sports on TV?

I sometimes watch the Mets whenever they are on but I feel that they do better when I'm not watching. I don't really watch baseball if the Mets are not playing unless it is a game that has a lot going. I have been watching more football the past two seasons but I'm upset that I'm in the Redskins area for Fox - I would have preferred to watch the game of the week (Week 17: Bears @ Packers) instead of Giants @ Redskins. Also CBS seems to have a deal with the Steelers cause they usually get priority, at least in my area. I haven't been watching much hockey since the lockout one reason being ESPN dropped their tv deal with the NHL but Versus has a lot of games and NBC usually has a game of the week on Sunday which I'll be trying to watch more hockey.

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?

    1. N.Y. Mets
    2. G.B. Packers
    3. N.J. Devils

Father is a Mets fan, as is his father, so I grew up watching the Mets and I was very much my father's son so I attached myself to the Mets. My father isn't much of a football fan - his favorite team in a joking matter are the Patriots because the face on their helmets looks like Elvis and he is a huge Elvis fan - so I didn't become a fan of a NY football team. I wanted the Packers to win Super Bowl XXXI (Patriots vs Packers) which they won however I did not really follow them the next year. I wanted the Packers to win again in Super Bowl XXXII (Packers vs Broncos), I remember watching more of that game but the Pack lost; I did however from that lost follow the Packers closely. I don't know how I became a Devils fan - my father isn't a hockey fan. I really don't remember watching or being a fan of the Devils in the 1995 Stanley Cup Finals when they swept the Red Wings but my grandfather got me a small banner of their win so maybe I was a fan - I'm unsure. I was a definite Devils fan a year or so afterwards.

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?

Yeah. I follow them closely, check how they're doing, watch the games. I do admit I don't know much of the Devils roster except a few names I remember from seeing in the news.

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both curently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?

    Baseball: Albert Pujols
Football: For offense: Brady - regular season & Rodgers - postseason
For defense: Just to offer some variety Nnamdi Asomugha for DB and Clay Matthew III for LB
Hockey: I could go with the easy answer of Crosby or Ovechkin since I haven't kept up with hockey that well.

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?

Game six of the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals between the Dallas Stars & New Jersey Devils. It went into double OT, game 5 went into triple OT though Devils lost that game, and during each period I would not move from my bean-bag chair until intermission so I would not disrupt the chi for the Devils. When Arnott got the series winning goal I ran up to my parents room and woke them up by saying "The Devils won! The Devils won!", it was around 11p.m./midnight.

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?

I used to play little league baseball but then I quit after some years playing in VA. The leagues were pretty bad. How bad: when I get struck out by a ball that hit the plate things aren't so good. I did play soccer for one year and it was ok.

    Re: Best of Sports

Favourite sport: Football(referred to sometimes as soccer. Im European, so suck it). I was born and grew up in Islington, London, which is gooner country as well as intercity London where its basically the only sport intercity children play so as far as I can remember I have always been kicking about a football with friends.

Favourite team: Being from Islington means I have always been a gooner. I feel blessed that my local team was the mighty Arsenal F.C. A deviation of a few miles to the north east and I would have ended up supporting the pathetic spuds. But I am also passionate about the Irish rugby team and English football team.

Hardcore?: I would consider myself as hardcore as much as someone who lives in a different country can be. I usually have the new Arsenal shirt before the season starts for real in September and I catch as many games as possible.

Best players: My favourite player growing up was definitely Dennis Bergkamp. The man could do things with the ball that I had thought impossible( my fav piece of individual skill in sport,YouTube - Dennis Bergkamp goal Arsenal v Newcastle).
Though I am not so naive to think my favourite player is the greatest ever. I would have to pip for Johann Cruyff. And on current form I think Samir Nasri is the best player on the planet at the moment if not up there. And as much as it hurts me to say it the spuds Gareth Bale is also playing imperiously.

Best game: There are 2 that come to mind. The Ireland/Wales decider in the six nations rugby tournament where it came down to the last kick of the game falling 2 yards short will forever be burned onto my retinas. And the Giants/ Patriots superbowl. Amazing games both of them.

Sports played: I dont play any sports at the moment but I used to play football as well as Gaelic football and Hurling while I was growing up.

    Re: Best of Sports

*What's your favorite sport, and why?
    Football. Of American variety.

*How often do you watch sports on TV?
I usually watch any football that I can catch, unless it's some division 1AA team or lower (or some division 1A team that should be division 1AA). Sometimes I'll watch basketball or baseball, but I really don't care about those as much.

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?
Oregon State Beavers for the college level, any sport. Because they're from right over there, my siblings went to school there, and my dad worked there for like 30 years or something. Green Bay Packers for pro, because the year I decided to be interested in Football, I watched them beat up on the Denver Broncos one day, saw them do the Lambo Leap, and thought they looked pretty awesome. They later won the Super Bowl that same season. Portland Trail Blazers for basketball. Kind of an inherited team, although they're the only pro team around here. Varying levels of interest in them, as some years they're pretty awesome, and then for years they suck. Never quite have won the championship while I've been alive, though they did once back in the 70's. I follow them in the newspaper or online, and occasionally catch a game on TV.

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?
Beavers, kinda. I used to go to all their home football games and get loud-some might say obnoxious, as at one point I even got then Coach Pete Carroll to turn around and grin at me. I don't really get out for many anymore, though. Don't think I even went to one home game this year, which is kinda sad, although considering the disappointing season they had... I've gone to a couple of their baseball games too, and when I was younger, my parents took me to all their home basketball games too.

*In your opinion who's the best player/individual (both currently, and overall) in sport you've chosen?
That's a hard call. I think Aaron Rodgers had a hell of a postseason this year, so right now, he's my personal MVP. Also, Clay Matthews on the defensive side of the ball. There was such parody this year, really, that no one particularly stood out to me. Sure, Michael Vick and Tom Brady were great, but they both kinda choked in the end when their teams needed them, so...

*If you had to pick one match/event as the best match/event you've seen, which one would it be?
Oregon State vs. USC, 2006. Probably my favorite game I've ever been to. Think the Trojans hadn't been defeated during the regular season in like 2 years at that point, so it was a pretty big deal, too. Came down to the final play; a two point conversion play that USC failed on.

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?
Not really anymore, heh. I went and played flag football on Thanksgiving morning, didn't know what I was doing, got yelled at a lot by the people who did. Was trying to learn some wrestling for a little while a few years ago, but that kinda died. Used to think I was decent at basketball as a kid, and then I realized that there jocks in the world. Anyhoo...

    Re: Best of Sports

*What's your favorite sport, and why?

My favorite sport is MMA(mixed martial arts). Why, ehh I really just love watching people beat the unholy hell out of each other. Kind of like every other red-blooded american. Plus there is the fact that I actually do MMA, I no longer fight in actual fights, but I like to train still.

If I had to pick a second it would be football...NOT SOCCER, real football hahaha. Why, like I said I love watching people bash the shit out of each other.

*How often do you watch sports on TV?

I watch sports all the time. It's either a game, or sports center, or something on ESPN. Odds are you will never see anything else on my T.V.(except for maybe Vampire Diaries) But for real I am always watching something that has to do with sports. I also feel this is a good place to say F*ck the Packers haha jk jk it was a good game.

*What's your favorite team, and why (those who keep track of individual sport may skip this question)?

    Football: Pittsburgh Steelers
    Basketball: LA Laker's
Baseball: NY Yankee's(yeah yeah f*ck you Pete..Mets FML)
    MMA Fighter: Fedor Emilienko

*Do you consider yourself to be a hardcore fan of your team?

I mean i'm not gonna fight for my team, but I am a pretty avid fan of all of my teams.

*Last, but not the least, do you play any kind of sports, be it professionally or just for fun?

I was a 3 sports athlete in HS. I played whatever I could. I have won a few amateur MMA fights, and one pro fight.

Sitting here waiting for Rocky, and Che to notice me!!

    Re: Best of Sports

    OK.. Basketball...
I play every time i get a chance and or see a challenge.... iv actually walked in a gym and saw people playing and thought to myself- man theyre not even worth playing with... and walked back out before. lol how cocky is that?? but basketball is pretty much the the only thing i can be cocky at comfortably and on the court (concrete i prefer) i can do whatever i want and be my own boss... See, Im very shy or atleast very quiet any where else and when things were/get really tough for me in my life basketball's my alcohol/drug or whatever since i do neither... thats y i have so much love for the sport...
KOBEs my favorite right now and 2nd best to the king of all.. Jordan, the G.O.A.T.

absolute best match up is only fantasy but i seen a commercial of it which all of u HAVE TO SEE!!,,, the young Mjordan vs The older Mjordan.. think its a gatorade commercial
