    2009 Revisited

So here we are once again just a few weeks out from the new year. Many days have passed and I am sure alot has happened over the course of the year; some good some bad. So here is your chance to tell us about your year.

I am wanting to keep this at more of an intelectual level so spammers can just pack their bags and move along.

Basicly what this thread is intended for is for you to write out the events of the year and how they affected you as a person, also you can throw in a synopsis and what ever you feel might make your post that much more benificial to this thread.

Remember that you have to keep the events limited to 2009.

I had this idea last night and felt that I should throw it out there before I forget about it. As of right now I will have to come back to this thread and add in my 2 cents. As most people here know I have had a very busy year and my year end report will probably end up looking like one of my journal enteries haha.

So feel free to post and discuss.

I made less than 100 posts on TFF. I guess I really didn't have anything much to talk about this year.

I studied really hard and it paid off allowing me to get a rather good set of Highers.

As a result of that I got into University and am now studying Computer Games Design.

I spent around half the year trying to find a part-time job, something that I've still not found. Personally I blame the economic crisis.

At the beginning of the year I almost weeped upon learning that Woolworths went into liquidation, this has been a repeated experience with Borders (UK only) and Flyglobespan (just yesterday).

Still can't find my first job... Seriously I'm a student, I need a job!

My mother's father had another stroke. Thanks to the NHS however, he hasn't even been mentally affected.

My father's mother moved into a care home after her dementia became too unmanageable.

So 2009 has been an... interesting year. Better than 2008, but hopefully worse than 2010!

My year started out really well! In February I gained a new gilfriend, on Valentine's Day too . I finally graduated from High School in May and immediatly set out to find my first job. I eventually did in October but quite after a couple of weeks! I then found my second job soon after!!! Here recently my grandfather on my dad's side almost suffered a stroke and had to go to the hospital. Thankfully he was only in there for 2 days and came out feeling much better!
Well that's pretty much it so far for me!

Also! I got a new car! That was a big deal since my old car was a death trap.

This has been quite a big year for me. Started off in my university city, living with my boyfriend, spending too much time in nightclubs with my friends. My grades almost slipped, but I pulled it back, and got my little gold-gilded acceptance letters for Honours in June. I worked twenty five hours a week back then, on top of a full time degree, to save up for what I'm doing now. I spent the summer working and messing around.

In September I moved to France to work as an English teacher type assistant thing (the job description is ambiguous as hell if I'm honest, which bugs me, because my duties tend to change on a weekly basis). So I've adjusted to life in France. At the moment I have a mauling hangover from the Christmas farewell party with my darling Germans and Bolivians and Americans so I guess I'm doing ok. I like it here; it makes my country look like shit, but at the same time, makes me love Scotland more.

I've had a really good year. I feel very, very lucky.

Before graduating my life was kind of boring, sports, work, school, girlfriend. Well the girlfriend isn't boring(if you know what I mean)

This has been a pretty good year for me. In may I graduated from high school with honors of course. It was a very good day for me, finally after all those years I have escaped. Well fast forward a few weeks, I joined the Marine Corps. I must say I was skeptical of the service at first, but it turned out to be the best decision of my life. I went to boot camo shortly after joining. It was rough, and their was times I thought for sure that I was gonna quit. Alas I carried on and graduated through boot camp.

I got out around the 1st of september, and joined TFF right away. I also managed to rack up over 800 post in my short time here on TFF.

Something to add to my 2009, I had my first amateur MMA fight tonight. I won hellz yes. I thought for a little while there he was gonna kick me in the head and KO me. I was able to pull a fast one, he threw a kick and I quickly caught him with a left jab. It wasn't even that hard, guess I hit him in the right spot at the right time....Yay me!!!

    My 2009 in a nutshell....

This year was...well it was a year. I never seem to have any interesting stories to tell. At the end of the last school year I had a ridiculously small course load, but as I was still new to the whole seminar thing, I still struggled. That and I'm a procrastinator. I did well though, grade wise.

During the summer I worked at Canadian Tire, which is an auto/hardware/seasonal type store for those that aren't Canadian. It sucked. This was my third time working there, second time in the auto parts department. It still amazes me that they put me there when I know nothing of cars. Thankfully, this time I was only there for the summer. I hate that place.

After summer, it was back to university and it makes me cry now to think how easy last year's workload was in comparison. 4th year isn't 4th year for nothing I suppose.

A friend of mine got married on the 28th of November at the tender age of 21. I was a groomsman and despite having to set up the entire thing ourselves and the fact that it was situated right when papers were due, it was a good time. The groomsmen got zippos and took pictures holding up farm implements as deadly weapons. I had an axe. I should get a copy of that picture and upload it.

I did a lot of gaming...haha. That's about it. Cheers.

I finally got used to C#, and was making programs for my assignments. I also had a shit load of assignments to do, and managed to set a personal record of getting four done in a weekend.

I downloaded MSN on the fifth of January while a friend helped me with assignments - communicating via the college e-mail was taking too long. Instead of doing said assignment, I spent the rest of the evening adding all my friends from college and here.

Next evening, I had a row with Martin, which resulted in loads of angry words, lots of tears and later moved on to a sixth month depression and blocking on MSN. Ouchies. =S

Soon after, I regularly talked to Beka, Joe and Vicky on MSN. Mainly a lot of emoish ranting on my part. But three good friendships were formed in the process.

In February/March, I got talking to some girl who went to my old school. Apparently I picked an apple up for her one lunch time, blushed and walked away. But she is best friends with my best friend, and we got talking. Seems like nothing now, but just wait...

Me and Vicky one evening on MSN confessed our feelings for each other. Pretty soon, I was in a relationship again, and looking towards the brighter side.

Brighter side crashed when a family friend, Mary, passed away. I went to a very emotional ceremony, and despite telling myself countless times that I wasn't going to cry, I cried a lot. Also, the vicar almost ran a boy on his bike over on the way to the cemetery. Baaad vicar.

On June the 10th, me and the girl I mentioned met up for the first time in a couple of years to go and see Coraline. Feelings soon developed. o.o

I had a very eventful summer, which included hanging out with that friend a lot. My feelings got a little too hard to bare one evening, and we rowed, and it came out. She said it was okay, and that we can still be friends. We continued hanging out, and I overcame my fear of tubes... sort off. Until that evening we got stuck in a tunnel for an hour due to some kind of failure - I was pissed. x__X

A lot of other shit happened, and me and the friend rowed big time. They couldn't take being around me with how I felt, so they cast me off. I thought I was heading for another six months worth of depression, but I got over that awfully quick. I love Vicky and Joey. <3

I started back at college for my second year, and learnt XCode and Objective C. I discovered that yy 3D Animation and Photoshop teacher is my Spanish twin. My favourite teacher Brian left, to which I was greatly upset. Even more so since he doesn't reply to anything I send him on PSN. Lame.

    I lost all the work I did on my USB. So I had to do all my work again. I hate Macs. ¬¬;

Now, I've caught up with work. I'm in a relationship with a wonderful person who has helped me through sooo much, and I have made some very valuable friends. If anything, this year I have learnt who my real friends are, and to tell people how I feel before it's too late.

Bring on 2010, and may it be more eventful with less heart break/bad shit.

I suppose it's been an average year, worse than some and better than others.

I've kept my job, having searched and failed to find a better one that doesn't require some sort of college degree. Seven years, and it was my first job. I'd say that's some sort of record but a lot of my coworkers are like that too. I still hate the job but I am thankful that I'm in no danger of being fired unless I royally screw up somehow, and there's not much chance of that at this point.

Death has cast a heavy shadow this year as well. My step-grandfather passed early this year as did my great uncle a few months later. I also lost two of my three cats, one to age and illness and the other to an unexpected complication from undiagnosed heart disease.

It's not all bad things, though. I have my own place now, sort of. It's complicated lol. I'm still working on renovations but having my own space is nice. Decorating will be a fun, if rather slow process.

I've started writing again as well and am working on a new novel.

Lots of plans for next year too, but I'll save that for the inevitable thread.

I wish I had some exciting stories to tell about this year, but really I don't... This year has been a lot of firsts for me though, so I guess I could talk about that for a bit:

I went to a bar for the first time ever. It was just a small place downtown, and my friends FINALLY talked me into going (after who knows how many times they bugged me about it...). So I went. It was smokey and there were a lot of people there. A guy bought the four of us a round of Jello shots, which I passed on, but my friend took mine and slurped it down. She turned to me after that and said "Good thing you passed on that one. It was STRONG!" Figures. Of course the non-drinker would get the strongest shot...

I went gambling with a friend at a local casino. They were having Ladies' Night, and all the ladies got ten dollars from the casino to play on. I lost mine, but I didn't gamble any of my money, so really, I didn't lose (that's how I like to think about it anyway...). My friend at one time had forty bucks just by playing on the penny machines, but she lost about 30 dollars of it and decided it was time to leave. It was VERY smokey in there, so I was glad to go. I will say that they had really good food. If I do go again, I'll eat and then leave.

I went to Tennesee for a bit of a family vacation. It was a nice drive, but we wound up staying in a tourist trap town. Gatlinburg. It was still fun, and the weather was AMAZING! It never got too hot or too humid, which was a nice change because Arkansas summers can be pretty harsh.

I went river rafting with a bunch of friends. I have a journal entry about it, so I won't elaborate too much, but I had a blast, even though I think I wound up with the worst sunburn I ever had.

My mom quit smoking. She went cold turkey. I'm proud of her. She was diagnosed with Diabetes though, and she has been struggling a bit with the effects of that here lately. I'm sure she'll get it under control, it's just taking some time to get it there.

My second youngest brother graduated college. In fact, it was just yesterday that it happened! I'm happy for him. He worked hard to get it.

I got a new laptop this year. Before I got it, I had to use the family computer, which was a pain because it was never working properly, and when it did, someone else was on it.

I got a PS3 this year! In retrospect, I probably should have waited for the price drop because I could have had an extra 100 dollars in my pocket, but I got impatient. Meh... I probably would have spent it on shoes or something anyway.

I also did a lot of gaming this year, but I do that every year. Oh, and I joined TFF this year as well. It's nice to talk about games and stuff with fellow gamers, because I don't have that many friends who are still into it. Not that I had too many that were gamers anyway...

All in all, no complaints really. I do wish that a few members of my family would get healthy again, but that's going to take a bit of time.

This year has been a really tough one for myself and my family.

To recap, second semester of college was really a breeze, I hit like a 3.75 GPA doing minimal effort necessary. The first three months overall weren't bad, but once it hit April, things started to go downhill fast.

In April, my grandma had her birthday party at her house, which is about an hour away. I had to work, but I was going to head up afterwards. However, about halfway there on the highway, my car engine cracks and breaks down. The damage was irreversible, so I was without a car for a long period of time. No worries, my mom let me use her backup car (something she bought since she owns a Durango, she uses it for work since it saves money on gas.). So I drove the Cirrus around, and about a month later, I end up totalling it on the interstate. Long story short, the guy didn't have any form of license, but it still ends up being my fault.

So, me and my brother had to share a car for awhile, which was not fun. After finding a new car that I owned, not only did I have to buy the car, but I ended up replacing the engine, the transmission and the fuel pump so far this year, so that has costed me over $6000 in repairs. This would of been all fine and dandy if I would have gotten a promotion that I was strongly encouraged to apply for at work, however I was passed over by three other people, two of whom I still think they have no idea what they're doing. Not only that, but because of the economy, I got a much smaller raise then I expected, despite having an outstanding yearly review.

So after all that time to rage and work overtime each week in the summer, I literally had nowhere else to go, so I sat inside and played videogames for much of my summer, lol. Anywho, school starts up, not even a couple of weeks in and my house burns down, due to a faulty dehumidifer. That happened on September 8th, and we wont be moving in until this sunday, so you can do the math of how long I've been homeless.

On top of that, my mother's father passed away unexpectedly this October. It was a sad deal, as he was just in recovery from an operation, then my grandpa had several annurisms, which there was little that we could do. My mom is still taking it hard to this day.

So life has really sucked so far, maybe the new year will turn it around.

This year has been.. Amazing for me =].

In January I got accepted into University. Which amazed me because I wasn't really hoping for anything. I didn't get my first preference. But after one semester I would be able to swap over. I wanted to study Japanese at St Lucia. I didn't know what I wanted to do with it.. Buuut.. Still!

On the 9th of January Martin and I confessed out feelings to eachother. It was really sweet how it happened. But that's a really long story in itself! So anyway. We got together and after a little rough start because of some miscommunication between people we worked everything out.. And now we've almost been dating a year.

I turned eighteen this year. I had a party at my house. I got drunk and almost rolled into the bonfire. That was exciting? I also got my driver's license this year. That's been amazing.

I ended up dropping University in June because I just couldn't stay here to finish University before I went to England to be with Martin. I decided I would work more to earn enough money to leave. Which was a really big decision. But I'm still glad that I made this decision. I'm leaving in April so.. I'm pretty excited.

This year I also realised how little my friends and I have in common now. They've changed and I don't have things in common with them anymore. I'd rather leave my pants on.

I also got back in contact with a friend who I thought was dead. But turns out she's very much alive. She just had a pretty hectic year. I am so glad that she's ohkay and I can talk to her now =].

I think that's all of the main parts of this year -thinks- This year has been such a life changing year for me. But like.. It's all to do with getting up and moving countries.. Which I've mentioned

2009 has been crazy for me!

Okay, to be technical I had Claire in 2008. Then again, it was the 19th of December so it wasn't like much happened in those first few months. I'm going to get super cheesy here but nothing, NOTHING can compare to watching your kid grow and learn things.

I went to watching her learn how to hold her head up, to sitting up, to crawling and now walking. Before I had kids I totally didn't appreciate this and would get rather annoyed if people posted or talking incessantly about their offspring. Now I do it. Karma is a bitch, what can I say?

Hmm, in Non-Claire related 2009 stuff:

I finally stood up to myself with my BITCH of a supposed "best friend". This is the girl who while I WAS IN LABOUR literally bitched me out on the phone because I was in too much agony to wait for her to drive across town in a BLIZZARD so she could "be there" for me while I had my epidural. Which is a massive needle in your back for those who aren't in the 'know'. Yeah. Talk about ****ing selfish.

I spent a majority of my labour worrying about HER when I should've been worrying about MYSELF. Honestly, it makes my blood boil just thinking about it. Then I had mutual friends tell me about all the shit she had been saying about me. I got curious and checked her email (she had given me her password years ago) and confirmed that she was, in fact, saying totally shitty things about me. Like stuff that made me wonder why she even spoke to me type of shitty. Sure, it was crappy for me to go into her email. Obviously there was a reason, ya know? Not to mention she did the exact same thing with her husband (who is hubby #2, she had an affair on Hubby #1 with now-Hubby #2). I'm sure the picture I'm painting shows the caliber of person I was dealing with.

Man it felt amazing to cut her loose! Probably one of the biggest things I'm proud of myself for doing!

So yeah. Watched my kid grow and finally told a snotty stuck up BITCH to **** off.

Yep! 2009 has been quite the banner year for me!

Ahhh year in reflection is always fun.

    This year I....

Met a chick, got heart broken, then met another girl I'm still with, 7 months on January 2nd.

Finished two more semesters of college, will be done after two more, 24 credit hours shy of my associates degree in computer networking.

Quit my job that was causing me naught but frustration and depression. I wasn't expecting to be unemployed for going on 5 months, though, so that's been a huge pain in the ass.

All in all, I gained my first real girlfriend in ages this year whom I'm very happy with, so I really can't complain about 2009.

I suppose this has been an interesting year.

    Janurary to April

Nothing special happened in this timeframe, except my 16th birthday, of course.

    May to August

I believe it was about this time I came back to these forums and started finding... I guess, purpose...

I recall on this date, it was about a year since we went canoeing down the river in Northern Michigan. The sights were beautiful and it felt comforting.

    September

    O. M. G. I got my own damn car. o_O (And all the responsibilites...)

Also this month, back to hellish school. Summer never lasts...

    October to Now

Up until this point, I've gotten through school, and now that we have our winter break, I'm relieved.

Also, in this time frame, I made my parents spend more than ever before on all kinds of useless stuff.

Yep, that's my year. Not the most exciting, but its one of my better years. I hope 2010 is the same and even better!

I'm going through a bit of a The World Ends With You phase right now.

    Let's see... 2009.

January 7th - Purchased my PS3 along with my very first game; Valkyria Chronicles. Started said game.

Over the course of the months, bought more PS3 games and recently converted my xbox 360 fighting games to the PS3. ...Good thing, too. ..My Xbox 360 Red Ringed.

One evening, I confessed to Gemma and we've been together ever since. I can easily say that she's the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Tekken 6 was released. Yummy. =D

My Tekken Pal came back to TFF! =D
....She kicked my ass online. T_T

Lost my job of almost 2 years, now I'm trying to find another one.

Started writing again. Off and on. Need to stay on. >_<

...My life is boring. This sucks. I don't have anything to revisit to other than Gemma, getting my PS3 and my 360 dieing.

09 has been a pretty horrid year. I found out my mom is dying of cancer of her pancreas, obama is in the white house (i don't care that he's black, i just don't wanna be a socialist nation), health care bill passed (once again socialism = bad). other than that i got engaged this year, so there's the plus, the one good thing i'll remember about a year filled with horrid tidings and tragic endings.

I wish the government would stop trying to babysit our nation and let those that will fail do so and those that will succeed continue to do so.
if people want to help people without medical coverage than they can do so out of the kindness of their hearts not out of a mandate from the government.

I agree here, but since when have people in general been known to do anything out of the kindness of their hearts? Sometimes they need to be pushed to do the right thing.

Anyway, 2009 has been a pretty shit year. The upside, I met Kyo, and am quite happy there, but other than that it seems like tragedy after tragedy after tragedy, plus debt, more debt, car breaking down, shitty job, snow, taxes, tea parties, violent rat orgies, pineapples...

Well, I think after shitty job, I'm starting to lose it, but yeah. 2009 has been absolute crap and I'm really hoping 2010 ends up better.

Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?
