Anime...hm...what is the definition for anime.

I would call this pure fakime as in an American cartoon trying to imitate the Japanese style. They did a darn good job in my humble opinion.

I would assume Toonami would be a more fitting slot for this show to be in than Nick.

EDIT: If someone has links to wear I can watch the second season please PM me, because it's temporarily not on Youtube.

I agree. And since there are two topics, I'm going to merge, them. YAY!

    Edit: Threads merged.

And anyway. Yes, it's an American made cartoon. It should go on Toonami, but oh well.
I actually have never seen this before. So I can't really give my opinion.

My brother was raving about this, and bought the complete (I'm going to assume 1st Season) Book 1:Water.

I really like it! It's got it's moments that are total cheese, but then again what doesn't? Not really sure I like Katara, but Aang, Momo and Appa are my faves for sure.

He's got Book 2 en route from Amazon, and once he's finished watching it, I'm going to borrow it!

    Yeah I agree.

Nick did do a good job. I wonder why Americans can't make a good anime series on there own. Youd think by now theyd catch on by or something.

I mean heck if Nick can do then anyone can.

I stopped watching at Episode 20.

My only source was Youtube since I have to work everytime it comes on.

Oh well, at least I got the general concept. For a kid's show, it had good potential indeed.

    Hey, I love this show!
So far, I've only finished Book 1 & 2, since Book 3 is yet to come here in the Philippines. I really like the concept of The Avatar and using different martial arts styles for every nation.

Here's the pilot with commentary for those of you who haven't watched it on DVD.

And the dance scene (the last third of the episode, anyway) from The Headband for good measure.

I'm sure the shippers just loved that part.

i think that the show has a good story line, and i think that the characters are also very good. The game, but i can not say so much the game is only part of the story and the characters are not very well done. but i still like the show.

    The game most likely sucks like all games from shows. >_>;
And yes, I rule, don't I? *cheesy grin*

I saw the first two episodes for the third season and they were really well done.

I thought that the second season outdid the first season by far. From what I understand from a special Avatar mag issued by Nick, the series is about to get more serious as well as taking new directions, including a new enemy with connections to Katara and Sokka... and a probable love triangle between Katara, Aang and Zuko confirmed by the creators themselves.

I really liked the addition of Toph and Zuko's sister. I also want to see the episode where Iroh sings a song at the walls of Baa Sing Se for his dead song. It just sounds sad.

    "Azula always lies...."

....and Mark Hamill strikes again! Also: I think that this is possibly the best thing out since Ren & Stimpy and Invader Zim from Nick. There is also a movie trilogy planned-they got M. Night S. tapped for director already.

Toph and Zuko's sister? Since when were Toph and Zuko related? Azula is just Zuko's sister. Unless Mai or that other girl are related to Toph somehow.

Hehe. I have also heard the following:

-Iroh is down, but not out. Count on an escape or something.

-Zuko isn't going to stay in the Fire Nation for long.

-Most of the season will see Aang in disguise.

-There will be multiple character comebacks, but exclude anyone dead. (Jet is gone for good)

-"The Exploder". I refuse to state more.

-The relationship between knife-girl and Zuko probably won't last, according to the creaters, but this is a guess.

(If you haven't noticed, I am very bad indeed with names.)

I watched this and I liked it pretty much. The bending and the story's ok but as some people said [idk, just read a post] it was childish a little.

I definatly think the first season was meant for children to enjoy. But from the second season on it took on a far more adult theme. The character development was incredible, as well as the more indepth bending moves. Toph is the best character ever.

Hate to break it to you guys, but it's still directed at children, more adult themes or not. Have no shame, kids' shows can be good. Also, "not proper anime"...? Should it be? Would it be better if it were or something? Things don't become better just because they are Japanese. Yeesh.

Anyways, I really like this show. It looked like a standard show based on the previews, but I accidently watched it a few times and found it quite good. Very good character development, as was already mentioned, for a show of its kind. A fairly good sense of humour as well. I've only seen parts of the second and third season, but I've enjoyed every episode so far.

edit: Question. Is this show American or Chinese? The lip sinking looks fairly American, but I swear everyone in the credits is Chinese.

That's because the animation is done in Korea, Jin. It's a story done by americans, but the animation is done in Korea, which explains the "chinese" names and stuff. So yeah.

And no, Avatar is not anime. Don't ever say "It's not proper anime", because it was never anime to begin with.

Korean, eh? I suppose that makes sense. I forgot about American outsourcing. At least the Koreans have done a better job animating this than they did when they inherited season 3 of transformers. x_X I am a little dissapointed in myself that I couldn't tell they were Korean and not Chinese though...that saddens me.

    Until now!

of course korean made the animation, lol. (didn't know that),lol
since american shows are usaully ugly, and avatar isn't really ugly

What's to spoil? We all saw that comming.

Back to the animation, Koreans just do the animation itself, they don't do the art, if you get me. The designing is usually done by the creators or people they know and then outsourced to Korea for the mass production required for actuall episodes. The Simpsons does it too.

I did see a few Chinese names in the credits though. Wong and Lee are not Korean names. I didn't catch what their roles were, but my guess is that they are for reference purposes, so they don't do anything culturally incorrect. Just like they have an actual martial arts master (I don't remember if he is actually a master or not, but he's close at any rate) to help them with the fighting to make it look more authentic.

    Until now!

Actually, there are a lot of names shared between Korea and China-I had an exchange student whose name written in Chinese meant 'Pull Tiger King'. Why that is may be because there are a LOT of local dialects and a provincial name might not get you far in Korea. But yeah, the creators did all the designs and such, though they did base the Air bison off of the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro.

This could be called Fakime-it was meant to look like Anime and the animation quality outstrips a LOT of actual anime out there. Hell, some of my favorite anime has a lower quality animation and framerate out there as well as simpler storylines.

...but my favorite episodes so far from this season have to be 'The Headband' and 'The Painted Lady'. My brothers have cable on demand and I saw three of the four episodes from the Book of Fire. Much better and far more serious than the last season so far.

I especially like the redesigns. It kind of shows how the characters are maturing and growing older.

Shared names via cultural links, perhaps, not linguistic links. Korean and Chinese are linguistically more different than English and Hindi. But I digress.

I dislike when people say things like Fakime (not to single you out, most people do it)or the like, it makes it seem that anime is superior based purely on the fact that it is anime. Otakus would have us believe this, but those of us that don't pretend to be Japanese know this isn't the case. What Avatar did borrow was a more serious plot line and character development that is common among Japanese animations. The animation itself doesn't really strike me as anime style, with the exception of facial expressions. Facial characteristics and head/body structers, however, are more Americanized. Their noses aren't sharp enough to make shishkabobs with, for examble. I entirely agree that Avatar's animation is superior to many Japanese works.

    Until now!
