I discovered bboynoe while searching for this song specifically, and boy, I'm glad I did. He really knows his stuff when it comes to guitar.
In a universe of games that's pretty rich with great music, this might be my favorite song from all of Metroid. Some might think it's a throw-away tune because it's buried in a pretty obscure game---in this case, Metroid II: Return of Samus for the original Gameboy---but I think it's very memorable and catchy. Even today, the original Gameboy tune still holds up pretty well. Some of my memories of this tune include listening to this song while I played the Gameboy late at night, but at a low enough volume that my parents thought I was still sleeping.
This game holds the rare distinction of being one of the few original Gameboy games I've ever owned. Sadly, the cartridge was lost during a move. There has been a stellar effort by a fan to remake the game using modern 2D visuals that I might eventually try.

Hero façade. Villain at heart.
