Bring someone in from the cold

So, I have an idea to expand some musical horizons. Suggest a little-known artist for others to listen to. The limiting factor is that they should be a local band.

I use the term 'local' loosely. They could be from your city/region, your state (US, because your country is so damn big), or nation (if you don't live in a country with like 100 million+ people). So the idea is, if they're popular locally (maybe you've seen them live in a local venue), share them here to spread the love.

I'll start with a band called Die! Die! Die!, formed in 2003 and from Christchurch NZ. They have hardcore punk roots (the name, much of the guitar, and the rhythm will often suggest this), but are often referred to as post-punk (this is where the bass hits you, super-tight), or even noise pop (their latest releases, but nothing to the same extent as most contemporary bands receiving this label). I've seen them five times over a few years (three in my own city, one in their home city, and once in another city), and will see them for a sixth time in July. They supported the Pixies when they came here last year. They have a really energetic live set, and when I've seen them in small venues, the vocalist/guitarist and bassist play half of the set among the fans. I really don't know how they manage it though, they basically have to play in the middle of the mosh pit, although we give them a little bit of space.

They've just come back from a European tour, playing (I assume) small venues, especially given the fact that they're still only getting small-medium venues at home, when not supporting a major act or playing a festival.

    What you get live:

They have three albums, the self-titled (2005), Promises, Promises (2007), and Form (2010). I highly recommend Promises. It's probably my favourite Kiwi album ever made.

Not sure how well known these guys actually are, probably not very, but they formed in my city. Actually I went to the same highschool as the guitarist. Not at the same time of course, but still. The vocals I'm not too crazy about, but the instrumentals are epic. They actually vaguely remind me of Iron Maiden. Anyways, band's called Cellador, pretty cool stuff.

For Our Lord Sheogorath, without Whom all Thought would be linear and all Feeling would be fleeting. Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge. Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Blessed is the Madgod, who tricks us when we are foolish, punishes us when we are wrong, tortures us when we are unmindful, and loves us in our imperfection.

    Woooo!

Okay so, a friend of mine is a member of thiiiis baaand (keyboard).

The Romany Rye is actually gaining a lot of momentum. This friend of mine is traveling to play shows constantly, it seems. And he was telling us that Counting Crows was asking if they could cover the song I just linked (I think it was this one, anyway).

    I enjoy them.
    Curious?

    A-Roc & A Hard Place - ...hee hee. Funny name. ;p

It's a linkin park'ish group I think, and they're actually from my area. I don't have any friends in the band or anything, but I am subscribed to Wreckless Eating on youtube, and that's where those guys in the band are from.

I've listened to some tracks and think they're pretty neat. ^^

Also considering they won a battle of the bands tournament and won 500$ out of it, they have to be worth some salt, right?

Here's one guy that comes to mind. It's One Leg Chuck. He's local in San Francisco. If you know anything about the Bay area, you should be able to meet someone who has heard of this guy. Try and track this guy down and give props <_<.

The first two series, for those of you who don't read or know, were 7 volumes total and all for PS2. There was also an 8th; it was called .hack//Fragment Offline. A lot of people didn't know that I bet. Has anyone read any .hack manga? If you don't plan on getting Link and instead prefer to read, I recommend at least trying out .hack//Link Manga- Read .hack//Link Manga Online for Free at Manga Fox. Let me know what you think.

Richmond Fontaine are a alt-country band from Portland, OR. I got into them a bit a few years ago when my bro introduced me to them. The lyrics are all very interesting, and the lead singer Willy Vlautin also writes books, one of which I'm reading right now. It's called "Lean on Pete." Also, some of their songs are more in story format than song format. I guess they're a bit bigger in Europe than over here.

(First song I heard by them.)

(Probably my favorite song by them.) Anyhoo...

I played a show with these guys once in my own band, I was surprised that they got so huge do quickly. Theyre from my area melbourne australia.
I use to listen to them a lot after that and eventually disbanded my band because we were nothing in comparison. Quite tragic, really.
