So, I have an idea to expand some musical horizons. Suggest a little-known artist for others to listen to. The limiting factor is that they should be a local band.
I use the term 'local' loosely. They could be from your city/region, your state (US, because your country is so damn big), or nation (if you don't live in a country with like 100 million+ people). So the idea is, if they're popular locally (maybe you've seen them live in a local venue), share them here to spread the love.
I'll start with a band called Die! Die! Die!, formed in 2003 and from Christchurch NZ. They have hardcore punk roots (the name, much of the guitar, and the rhythm will often suggest this), but are often referred to as post-punk (this is where the bass hits you, super-tight), or even noise pop (their latest releases, but nothing to the same extent as most contemporary bands receiving this label). I've seen them five times over a few years (three in my own city, one in their home city, and once in another city), and will see them for a sixth time in July. They supported the Pixies when they came here last year. They have a really energetic live set, and when I've seen them in small venues, the vocalist/guitarist and bassist play half of the set among the fans. I really don't know how they manage it though, they basically have to play in the middle of the mosh pit, although we give them a little bit of space.
They've just come back from a European tour, playing (I assume) small venues, especially given the fact that they're still only getting small-medium venues at home, when not supporting a major act or playing a festival.
What you get live:
They have three albums, the self-titled (2005), Promises, Promises (2007), and Form (2010). I highly recommend Promises. It's probably my favourite Kiwi album ever made.
