Yea it was a very hero-soldier centric movie. Overall wrapped up too fast and too neatly by the tough American super soldiers and their heroic super acts to save the world. Very propaganda inspired without hitting on any real issues (unless Iraqi's are aliens I havn't been told of.)
I went with several of my friends and we all agreed it was not a very good movie. Some of them expected more of an Independance day-like movie (dunno why) where it was more civilian/government perspective but were really disappointed when it was a soldier hero movie.
When Michelle Rodriguez was introduced as the character she ALWAYS plays that's when the generic-ness of the movie got too much for me and I started clocking out on trying to care for any character. It was dumb how fast and how many times the soldiers turned their opinion on the Old guy. Jeez people die in war, some people survive others don't, get over it babies you would think he literally held his soldiers still while deliberately calling the enemy soldiers to kill them with his last platoon. Maybe its just more propaganda that American soldiers ONLY EVER die if someone forces them to die purposely.
The alien plot is also very weak. These aliens have such superior firepower but they keep super-command centers on ground level where the inferior humans can simply blow it up? Stupid solution for a stupid movie. Also they find a weak point on their chest so all of a sudden they can kill them easier? Jeez you would think that would be the second place they shot once the head was ineffective.... The water theory I can let go because if synthesizing water was easy we would of done it already in mass quantities.
Overall very disappointing movie indeed. Luckily I didn't go in with the highest expectations, I only went because I hadn't seen a movie in theaters in awhile with friends and I didn't want to destroy their misconceptions and not end up going at all.
