The Aquabats! Super Show! is a show 18 years in the making, and those of us that have been following the band for years have been waiting for this day. Wikipedia sums up the show better than I possibly could:

The Aquabats! Super Show! centers around The Aquabats, a band of superhero musicians on a never-ending quest to fight evil, preserve justice and become the world's greatest rock and roll band.

The format of the show consists of both live-action and animated segments chronicling the adventures of The Aquabats, intercut with various skits, parody commercials, music videos and live footage of the band in concert.

In a recent interview with IGN, co-creator Christian Jacobs described the show thusly:

“With this show, we want to mix in the real intense energy of an actual live show and the high action of a kung fu movie, etc. It will all revolve around stories and narrative but there will be plenty of random surprises to keep the viewer always wondering what it going to happen next.”

Jacobs has also likened Super Show! to the 1960s Batman series, noting that its "so obviously silly" and "they were all having a good time making that show", hoping to reflect that same kind of "fantasy fulfillment" in Super Show!. Jacobs also states the series will try to appeal to all ages, rather than just The Hub's key demographic of children ages 6 to 11.

Okay, that sounds great, Polk. But I'm a 30-year-old man who lives in my parents' basement and posts about My Little Pony on internet forums all day. Why should I care about this show?

Great question, theoretical person I just made up!

First of all, the lead singer of the Aquabats, Christian Jacobs (MCBC if you're down), is probably best known as the co-creator of cultural phenomenon Yo Gabba Gabba! So, the dude has a pedigree for making television.

Second, The Aquabats are just a great band that are really easy to love. Not only are they a great band, they're clever, creative, funny, and they have probably one of the best live shows I've ever seen. They're energetic, fun, and obviously love and appreciate every fan that they have. I've never met a single person that didn't like the Aquabats once I exposed them, even people that hate ska music. They're also squeaky clean, if that's your thing. Not a curse word to be found.

The Aquabats! Super Show! premieres on Saturday, March 3rd, on The Hub, at 11 AM EST/8 AM PT. If you want to find a Hub near you, check the Links section I've provided earlier. And for all you lovely non-Americans, they'll probably make the show available on their website at some point.

I've seen commercials for this on the Hub, also on FB. I am totally going to watch it at some point. That last album was pretty good, although I miss when they were actually ska... Oh yeah, they also had a video of burger rain.

Also, my nephew loves Yo Gabba Gabba. Anyhoo...

I like where this is going. The concept kind of reminds me of a clean, live version of Metalocalypse, which is one of the best shows on television, in my opinion. I will definitely be keeping tabs on this show, although my friends insist I finish watching MLP: FiM before I watch any other animated show ever
