I don't really watch all that much.. I've only seen maybe ten, and barely any of those in full, I'm afraid. But my top three?

1- Full Metal Alchemist - Good story, good characters, and a bit of a laugh here and there.
2 - Ergo Proxy - Totally, completely unique. I've never seen anything like this. Once you get used to the lack of human warmth.. It's great. Interesting characters, brilliant animation, killer stoyline and the first anime I've seen in which I really enjoyed the English dubbing.
3 - Ouran High School Host Club - Always a good laugh. I can never usually enjoy comedy, much less romantic comedy but I just love this.
I've been on this site since 2006 woah

I don't think I can really put them in any other, but here it goes.

    • ef - a tale of memories: 12 episode long series heavily focused on romance and drama involving six great characters. Storyline is very well played out, and actually made me cry a few times. (Not that that's hard)
    • Honey & Clover: 36 episodes separated into two seasons, 24 and 12 episodes long each. Romantic comedy and drama about five art college students, a professor there, and a few other important characters. Some of the main themes are love triangles, and finding your place in life. All of the characters are great, and the story is overall very realistic. Follows the characters for about four years of their lives.
    • Kanon (2006): 24 episodes of romance and drama. (See a pattern here? =P) One main male character, and five main female characters. Good characters. Made me cry a lot. Don't know what else to say.

I'm going to go ahead and step in and say for any future posts in this topic, to not only list, but describe why they're in your list, as Cain, Fluffy, and Vamp have displayed.

Any generic lists will be warned from here on out.

    1. One Piece - Same reasoning as Cain. At 345 episodes, it has never failed to entertain, awe, wow, or make me sob. It is easily the best shounen series out there. This is fact. Though at the same time it is a love/hate anime. I urge everyone to give it a try, but to start out at the Arlong arc to get a glimpse of what One Piece is really about.
    2. Major - A baseball anime. Spanning 3 seasons, and a 4th currently airing. It is about Honda Goro growing up and participating in the different leagues of baseball. It is really dramatic, and has points of humor. Goro goes through a huge incident of trauma. It's really sad. It's almost up there with One Piece.
    3. Kanon (2006) - Drama, Comedy, and Romance. It portrays these genres fluently. It never fails to have you put into a state of sobbing, and then pick you up with its well placed humor.

That's all I got to say for my list.

All of these only work Japanese with subs for me. Dubbed anime = crap

    1. Chobits - (Would you have guessed it ) I found it to be a very touching series which was funny at times but mostly lovery-dovey. Funnily enough, the genre of "lovey-dovey" is one of my pet hates in general. But Chobits pulls it of splendidly

    2. Ouran High School Host Club - It's not something that I often seek out to watch. But I love it so much, again it's a bit of a romantic comedy at times. Though most episodes focus on the comedy side, eg. the pilot episode (^_^)

    3. ポケットモンスター (Sorry about the Jap text, but I actually REFUSE to speak of the English version of this anime. Here's a clue, it's one of the world's most well-known franchises) - Basically, in Japanese this is fantastic. Swearing is not uncommon and the script is actually good material. Strangely, my favourite episode is probably the one banned in every country in the world and that was only shown once in the history of television (unless you count the news coverage, those assholes)

Oi, Aerif, ever heard of Romaji? Use that. Seriously. No one knows wtf that is. Romaji isn't english you know. It's japanese with english characters. Don't be afraid to use it.

Don't make me make it mandatory. >_>

And that clue is shitty, there's more than one well-known franchise. Talking about the controversy though, makes me think of Shigofumi.

I was able to get it, mostly because I recognized the katakana. Poketto Monsutā.

Is the seizure episode really that good, or are you referring to something else, that's what I'm wondering.

Ahh.. So it's Pocket Monsters. Pokemon. XD
What's wrong with using the english name? And honestly I've seen the seizure episode. It's pretty average as the others go.

I have far to many shows held dear to fit my absolute favorites into only three spaces, however, I shall try my best.

    1) Laputa (Castle In The Sky) - Hayao Miyazaki.

Simply put, although I admit it is more of a movie than an anime (Which is usually considered as the series to me,) this Miyazaki film is gorgeous. I adore pretty much all of it; the art, which seems almost nonconventional when compared to most shows seen nowadays, the plot, which I find to be simply riveting, and the whole presentation create a truly spectacular show.

    2) Saiyuki - Kazuya Minekura.

A massive genre change from the previously listed anime, Saiyuki is one of those shows that, to me, grabs you and shakes. Although the art is in no way the best I've ever seen, Saiyuki makes up for it with it's humor and action. It takes a good deal of talent to properly mix humor, angst and action all into one, so I must pay sincere respects to Ms. Minekura.

    3) Detective Conan (Case Closed) - Gosho Aoyama.

Yet another genre shift here; with a cool attitude and interesting cases, Case Closed wins my third spot on the list. It's hard for me to describe why, exactly, I enjoy this series as much as I do, but with it brings a good plot, and mysteries that often seem out of reach of the veiwer, but not enough so to make it appear to be mocking them. Overall, I guess I like it simply because it's entertaining. (Such a cop-out, yes? )

In no particular order. Anime started sucking after I watched these. I've yet to see a good modern day anime. Seems like they went downhill. It's all the same ol' stuff I've seen over and over now, and there's so many just plain bad shows.

I don't know what order I'd put them in, but

    Great Teacher Onizuka

40 something episode series involving a perverted bikie teacher who's funny as anything and quite moronic at times. Has a great support cast and some interesting gaming references and some gundam ones later on in the series.

    Samurai Champloo

Hip-hop vibed Samurai anime. I don't like hip-hop so much, but I bloody loved this. 26 episode series I believe, and it had Mugen who is easily one of my favourite anime characters of all time. I love his fighting style, and the lack of morals at times. Adds a small sense of realism, even though many other things stop it from seeming all that real at all.

    Cowboy Bebop

This is just classic. 26 episodes and a movie about a few bounty hunters. The mushroom episode is one of few points in anime I remember without needing another watch. And Ed always cracked me up too.

All have action, look nice and the right balance of humour. Special mentions would be to a great many series'

Oh the top three would be fairly hard. I guess they would have to be..

    1) Elfen Lied: This was just an amazing anime. The story line kept me hooked the whole way through and I can just watch it over and over again. You also really feel for the characters.

    2) Full Metal Panic! : I am going to put Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid all in this one as they are all fun and funny. Oh and Sousuke is so funny.

    3) Cardcaptor Sakura - The Japanese version. Not the chopped up English Cardcaptors. The Japanese version just has so much more going for it and it makes sense. There are acutal relationships and there are no missing episodes. You should really check it out =]

    Princess Mononoke
Well, I saw this movie ages ago. I loved it when I first watched it. As a matter of fact, I believe it's inspired a couple stories I thought of back then, too. For one, it made me like wolves and fantasy even more so.

    Noein
I loved the music and the character Karasu. It was confusing as hell for some time, but stories that involve time-spaces/wormholes tend to do that. Anyways, the style was interesting and the story was pretty pleasing.

    Wolf's Rain
The art, the music, and the characters were all very well-done. The storyline was enough for me to watch it to the very end. I remember waiting for the episodes every once a week.. fairly annoying, but it was worth it even if the ending wasn't very satisfying, imho. I loved Tsume ^^.

I cant believe that only one person has said Hellsing haha

    Hellsing.
Excellent storyline, great scenes, Alucard is one aweosme guy, and the last few episodes were utterly amazing.

    FMA
Seems many people liked this one, and with good reason, original, great storyline and you get addicted to the characters.

    Gungrave
A very cool show. I couldn't really make a decision upon what this last one to be, but this is a good anime.

Alright...let's see here. Bear in mind, you asked for greatest animes I'd seen, not my favorites. There's a difference.

    Now, in no particular order:

    Hellsing

This show was great. Perhaps the best rendition of vampires I have ever seen. Seras was a great character and gave us the rare opportunity to observe how a person copes with waking up as a vampire. I also love the idea of using SAS to hunt vampires. That my friends, is how it is done.

    Who dares, wins.

    Trigun

I loved this show. Three words: Vash the Stampede.

Vash is one of my all time favorite anime characters. I usually hate the goody-goody type (I'll get you superman!!! Just you wait!!!) but Vash was different. He's that way for a reason. And he has to struggle everyday to stay on his chosen path. The show can seem like it's just goofy and fun, but that's just a facade. Underneath that illusion you will find a show that is dead serious, and a story that is quite tragic. Just like Vash.

And Nicholas D. Wolfwood is my hero.

And for the life of me I can't think of a third.

    So...how about...

    Magical Shopping Arcade: Abenobashi?

That show was just so monumentally weird. Seriously, I never knew what to make of it. And since I can't think of anything else, why not?

ok... i've watched a fair bit of anime mainly some of yours guys but my top three would have to be

    Elfen Lied
I absolutely loved this show: the characters, the story, the music. There were awesome fight scenes with lots of gore and the ending drove me to tears. I did find the first few ep's a little embaresing, anyone who's seen this knows what I mean. Never saw lucy as a villain not even in ep 1, don't know why she was pretty villainous in ep 1.

    Mai Hime
This was moving in so many different places. The characters were great and you really feel for them. The story kept me stuck to the screen when it started properly, the first 15 or so ep's are to let you get to now the characters cos there are a lot, without those ep's this show wouldn't be so moving so bear with it impatient people.

    Spice and Wolf
I might have chosen neon genesis evangelion but this was just so sweet, the music especially was done perticually well and I really enjoyed the characters and situations, evangellion was just a little... argh I can't even find words for why I preferred this, maybe it's just how it contrasts everything else I watched

    The Gargoyle
    SPOILER!!:

    The gargoyle sits, solemnly, alone
    That silent man of stone
Here, for his deeds he must atone

    Beaten eyes stare blankly
    Withered arms curved and wrinkly
    Bat-like wings spread fully

For once he was a man deceitful
His soul decored in black so hateful
From his despair grew pain most vengeful

With his death he was deserted
    Left condemned and desecrated
    Bound to form most understated

And now he is but a statue made of stone
    Sitting all alone

    Star Gaze
    SPOILER!!:
High in the sky, blinking down on us
    We all watch the stars
    Believing, as we do
That friends and lovers long since moved away are staring upwards too
Remembering us as we remember them
Smiling in the light of an unatainable star
And even if the star was snuffed out at that very moment
    We would never know
    We just keep smiling
And believe the star is true

    My TFF Family
(is laughably small because 'loner' turned out to be fairly accurate)
    Unknown-Entity - loner-kid's hilarious 'friend'
    Raider - my ginger brother

I don`t think to many members know the series but I`ve always watched it as a little girl and now because the creators are in court fighting over rights nobody can watch it and I think that`s a shame because I know that a lot of little girls (and big girls like me (lol) )would love the series also

I am not a huge anime fan, but I do happen to watch some on adult swim so my top three would be...
    1. Death Note - Very interesting storyline and very realistic (other than the shinigami guys), I actually watched all of the episodes and was really hooked on each episode.
    2. Bleach - Comes on from time to time and for some reason reminds me of the "Tales of..." games and is pretty interesting.
    3. Shin Chan (I think that's what it is called) - This show is hilarious, I always laugh when I see this show.

By far, these are the three:

    2. Welcome to NHK
    3. Cowboy Bebop

There are great ones out there, and then there are these three. Superb.

This is a tough one for me. I guess I'd have to say, though:

    1. Kanon (2006) or Air
    2. Neon Genesis Evangelion
    3. Spice And Wolf

I was going to pick Elfen Lied or another one as 3, but I really enjoyed Spice And Wolf.
