    Stuck in a dungeon...HELP

I'm currently running around dying in the dungeon under the city. Cannot remember the name, but it's a particularly boring water dungeon, maybe even the first one that you encounter. and I keep dying when I'm supposed to be stopping those stupidass mantis creatures from sucking out the electricity or some shit. Is there some sort of strategy I am missing or am I simply a dumbass who cannot play this game very well. Seriously, the gambits are ****ing annoying and most of the time they kill me, maybe I have them set to idiotic things but they're not helping very much. Because by the time one of the characters heals his ally, the mantis dude comes around and swipes/kills his ass. Is it better to kill the small creatures attacking me first or the stupidass mantis thing? I've been stuck on this part for ages...no seriously, ages. *insert facepalm of epic proportions* Or could it be that my entire party needs to level up and grind a bit?

What level is your team at, 'coz it sounds as if they might be too low? If it's the Barheim Passage you're talking about, where the bugs suck the electricity and the lights dim, then they shouldn't usually do one hit kills :/

Level 15-20 I think. And yeah, it's basically two-hit kills. This early in the game, the player is already expected to have grinded a bunch. Oh brother

hrm...15-20 you should be ok. try buffing your party a bit til you gain a level or 2. that place is all about killing the mimics before it goes completely starts and all the things that go bump in the night come out. on the plus side with XII, you can usually get a quick get away from enemies if it gets to be a little much.
    good luck!

That's a good point, the merchant Burrogh is at the very start. I remember having my ass handed to me in Barheim Passage because I never had enough money to buy decent stuff on my first playthrough.

A bit of advice for levelling in Barheim Passage @Bubble Boy .... Let the electricity run down to as low as possible, this way skeletons, wraiths and any undead monsters will be able to appear, and they give hell of a good experience.

If you are in the Barheim Passage, you're pretty overleveled. I think I'm usually like, 10 when I get there, but I think the average enemy level is around 7 or 8. Chances are, you've messed something up in your gambits, which, at this point in the game, you should probably only have two or three per character:

    1. Cure -> Ally<50% (or whatever the percentage is, I think it's 50)
    2. Attack -> Nearest visible enemy/party leader's target (Nearest visible for party leader, party leader's target for party)

And maybe an attack spell or two if you're into that sort of thing. I always like having healing gambits as my number one spot, so they're the top priority in a bad situation. I don't think you need to worry about status ailments at this point in the game, so unless you're getting hit constantly with something dumb like blind, don't worry about it.

FAKE EDIT: And if you're dying a bunch, always go for the big mimics draining electricity, so that you don't have to worry about the lights going out, and getting your ass kicked by the undead stuff.

ehhh, last time I played was a week ago, so actually the real level might be closer to 8, it really wasn't very high.

The skeletons kill me the most. those assholes.
Basically, it feels like the only way for me to level up safely is to fight a couple monsters, then run all the way back to the save point. lmao.

Well, I've got about three gambits per character, and they're mostly healing stuff I think...

but I think at this point what I should be doing is fighting the undead creatures and slowly gain money from them so I can buy new crap at the merchant, right? okay, thanks.

I think there was something mentioned that they are all weak to a certain spell. I think it was a new spell that the shop sells. Can't remember if that is true or not. I only played game once or twice and that was when it first came out lol.

Have your gambits set to the top one "HP <75% Cure" for two characters and the second one "Party Leader's Target > Attack". <--- Use this for the two support characters. Your main fighter Just have "Target: Nearest Visible > Attack".

It's good to stay two screens away from the save crystal, as this will respawn enemies when you replenish at the save crystal. Keep doing this, then when you are killing off the enemies a bit easier, change the cure gambits to "HP <50%" and carry on levelling. Personally, I did a lot of levelling at the start of the game on my future playthroughs to make sure I didn't fall into these situations, but gambit setups are an easy way to stay alive.

Always have healing/support gambits on top and offensive gambits under them.

    Thank you, sir.

Believe it or not, it's been 9 months and I'm still stuck in this same dungeon.

Also nickness, it didn't work, but I don't think it was your strategy that was bad..

so yeah just saying that I finally gave up.
