    Leave no man behind?

I like all of my guys to be around the same level in all games so i was wondering:
do you have three set guys in your party that you use through out the game, or do you organise them into teams like me, or just use whoever fits the situation at hand?

    My teams:
    Wakka
    Lulu
    Auron

    Tidus
    Yuna
    Kimahri

Rikku gets swapped in whenever neccesary

Every single battle, I use every person.

Yes, I am not lying. I make sure everyone gets AP, in every battle. Even ones that have like 2 monsters.

I try to use my characters to whatever the situation calls for. Like if there's a quick monster who can dodge attacks, I'll use Tidus. Flying monster, I'll use Wakka. Elemental monsters bring Lulu into play, and so on and so forth.

Though to be honest, Kimahri has never really gotten too much time in battle... I just don't think to use him much, especially when Auron arrives in the party.

I also swap in characters whenever I need them or when the situation arises. My party to start is usually Tidus, Yuna, and Auron. Then if there are elementals that I can't beat Lulu gets swapped in, for the flyers Wakka comes in. I didn't really use Kimarhi a lot unless it was to learn a skill from the enemies and in a recent run through I used Rikku a lot more, like the speed that Tidus and Rikku provide me with.

Basically this. Kimahri is an interesting character in theory, because he can be anything you want him to be. Every time I play through the game, I tell myself I'm going to use him more often, but by the time I start rolling with every character, he's at least a step behind everyone else, and I just force him down Rikku's path for future item farming purposes. He does have his uses at times (Stone Breath on the Guados in the wendigo boss fight, anyone?), but I've really never found a way to utilize him in a way that would make me use him more often.

My main team usually devolves into Tidus, Rikku, Auron. Original? No. Effective? Absolutely. Tidus is a great all around character, with good agility, decent HP, strength, and an effective skill set. Rikku's naturally the quickest character in the game, and if you steal from enemies on a regular basis, she can take any role you need her to: healer, black mage, status ailment dealer, whatever. Auron's got high HP and strength. He can dish it out, and take it. I like his ability set, too. The break abilities, though not exactly necessary, can make certain battles a hell of a lot easier, and he has certain abilities, like Entrust and Sentinel, that can be used in a crisis to get you out of a jam.

Using Stonebreath on Seymores Guado's is the only time i'd purposely use Kimahri he'd get swapped back for Auron right afterwards. i just think everything he can do someone else can do better...

    Re: Leave no man behind?

I think if he used the moves he learned from feinds as normal abilites or ones that cost Mp he'd be alot more useful. Having them as overdrives is a waste because moves like Fire and Auqabreath are pretty much useless unless he has high magic. Plus, Seedcannon, really?

I mostly used Khimarhi, as he was more than capable in every imaginable situation. Most spears had piercing, he dealt high damage and magic damage, and I sent him through like 3 trees before the game was up. He had healing magic, black magic, Auron's skills, and thievery. I only taught him the -agas, flare, and the other useful blacks from black magic spheres though.
Aside from that, same with Dodie, whatever the situation calls for.

I wish I could be that disciplined with this game.

Usually, I go with strength, so Tidus, Auron and Wakka level up whilst the others, especially Rikku and Kimahri, kind of get left in the dust. Not so much Lulu, as I find there is always a use for magic. Sadly, even Yuna falls behind as well, and that makes latter stages (Via whatever-it-is, after the trial anyway) really difficult.

I found out the consequences of leaving Yuna behind the hard way the first time through the game, to be honest i missed alot of other things out aswell,
but at least it made the fight with Yu-yevon that much easier

I should've been more specific. I meant it made fighting the aeons easier as they weren't much of a challenge because i didn't use Yuna enough to make them really strong

    Re: Leave no man behind?

I've played through most of FFX at least 10 times, though only finished it 2-3 times.
In my first big playthrough my main party was Tidus, Auron, Rikku, Yuna and a bit of Lulu.
I didn't like Lulu much as a character, so in my other playthroughs I have hardly used her.
My usual party is Yuna, Tidus and Wakka, with Rikku in there sometimes (mix ftw ). I found Auron's overdrives lame later on (big damage on 3 targets, compared with 10+ hits from tidus and wakka). Giving Yuna flare via a master sphere (courtesy blitzball I think) early on made the game too too easy. By the time I get to the thunder plains Lulu and Kimari are left in the dust level-wise.
On another note, using summons in the via purico with a completely un-leveled Yuna is very easy; bahamut kills everything (including the other summons) with a flick on the nose

Yu Yevon battle gives you Auto Life, if you die on that fight.....well you can't.

Kimarhi is the dopest character in the game hands down. I've sent him thru many paths...the one I found the be my favorite was Lulu's. By the time I was at Kimarhi's 2 on 1 battle, was about the time he started to show some signs of his progression not working.

    Re: Leave no man behind?

Y'know i read somewhere (possibly the ff wiki) that Yu-yevon was supposed to be a puzzle battle but the game designers/engineers forgot to give him immunity to all status effects. this way the only way he could be hurt is when he used Gravija, which hurts everyone including himself as he heals himself by 9999 whenever he gets hurt normally.

Well, my rule is I have to have the sexiest girl in any Rpg, so Lulu was in until post game.

Tidus, Wakka, Lulu... Untill Auron, then I switched Auron for Wakka

Then when I beat the game, I started training Yuna, then it was Yuna/Lulu, Auron, and Tidus.

I can't wait and take the time to level all chaacters up, it's aggrevating lol

    Re: Leave no man behind?

I use everyone for awhile except Kimarhi and Rikku. Eventually I even drop Lulu because typically Wakka and Tidus can start taking out the elementals just as easy.

Kimarhi is just a worse version of everyone else. Rikku only has limited use against machines other then that shes only good as a item healer which isn't needed when I use Yuna normally. Rikku can't attack worth crap, even at the end of her grid section. Lulu is great at the beginning but like I said eventually its just a waste to sub her in even with how easy it is in FFX.

So basically my team is normally Tidus, Auron and Yuna for boss battles and Tidus, Wakka and Auron for normal battles.

    BTW Yuna is the prettiest.

I'll use an edit instead of a new post to clarify but not steer the topic off coarse.

Lulu just has a big rack, she is mature yes but also boring
Rikku has a hyperactive disorder, is shrill and too childish
Yuna is just right, shes innocent, nice, considerate and quiet (not obnoxious) yet can be fun.
Of coarse this all only applies to FFX, in FFX-2 all women are insane and obnoxious except actually Lulu so in that game she is best.

Well if you want to talk about the psychology of beauty now ^^
I like mature women, and maybe the red eyes and curvy nature had something to do wiht it lol, and the hair to skin tone lol. And her age, being that yuna is underage, and rikku was 15.

    Re: Leave no man behind?

Well, Lulu was definitely curvy, and she was more mature, so I can understand rating her as better looking. But Yuna was younger and more energetic. And there was the whole unspoken Wakka/Lulu thing anyway, and while Wakka was a moron, he seemed like a decent guy. I would have no problem intruding on Tidus's territory, because he was just a queer. And Rikku, well, she was an annoying child.

But anyway. I go with Loaf's idea -- prettymuch every battle, I cycle every character in. Sometimes they just come in to Defend and leave the next round, but they do perform at least one action in every battle. Why not? It doesn't really take too much longer, you can still use your best attacks (the best attacks of your entire party), and you can have seven characters get experience instead of only three at a time. Khimari doesn't miss a chance to Lancet any enemies because you don't have him in your initial lineup, either.

Especially towards the end when I start grinding, usually with Tonberries at the Arena.

The reason why I like Kimahri is becuase of his versatility (and also he looks damm cool). Becuase he is such a flexible character you do sometimes have to figure out what you want to do with him. Because he starts somewhere in the middle of the become grid he doesn't neccasarily have a 'path' as such.

Take him down the Auron strength route, give him Tidus's speed, become a caster like Lu or theif specalist like Rikku.

Personally I think the Auron path is the best to take with Kimahri. Most of his weapons have piercing ability and he is naturally strong.

My party (especially towards the latter parts of the game)

    Tidus
    Yuna
    Kimahri

Usual subs being Auron and Wakka.
Lulu becomes less and less used as game goes on and Rikku makes the odd apprerance every now and again.

    Re: Leave no man behind?

I try to keep all my characters SP levels to be the same or only one or so apart that is the best way to make sure all your characters are capable in battle and that if you bring in a reserve member they can hold their own and do a decent job that you have designed them for e.g Lulu Black Magic Yuna White Magic, Aeons, Auron Powerful physical/debilitating attacks. However when all the characters have maxed the sphere grid I personally like to use Tidus, Auron and Wakka they are the three coolest charcters in the game!!!
