FFXII Help Thread: CAUTION - spoilers abound

It would be nice if you still mark major storyline spoilers with the [spoil] tag, but otherwise feel free to toss around any information necessary to explain your situation in hopes that we may help you.

I don't want to hear any complaints about spoilers in this thread.

It's clearly marked and can be expected in a help thread. If you don't want things potentially spoiled for you, don't read it. Pretty simple, eh?

That said, let the helping commence!

    1. Does somebody have a guide or a simple explanation on how quickening's work? I thought there would be something about them in the game but i can't find anything
    2. Is there anything special on the Leviathan? I'm not sure if you will be returning to it, but i'm trying to explore the starboard sections for any treasure. It's nice you can turn off the alarm for 60 secs but is there any way to get rid of it permanently?

1: I'm not sure. Wikipedia and Gamefaqs alike seem to be missing Quickening sections. I can't tell if I'm supposed to be putting in some sort of button combo or not... if I am, I don't see it on the screen. I know you can link other characters' Quickenings to create combos, so... maybe that's what the timer is for? Maybe Andromeda knows more.

2: No, it can't be turned off permanently, and no, I didn't come across anything too special and I covered the whole ship. If you head out the top of the lower level first, you can go to the control room. Take out six guards and you have access to the first terminal -- meaning you can turn the alarm off prior to going back to the storeroom. Then run as quick as you can back downstairs and then up to the storeroom. The alarm should sound just before you get there, but only for about ten seconds. When you get in the storeroom, turn off the alarm from one of the panels (doesn't matter which) and then just run upstairs as fast as you can and toward the exit.

I know you mentioned something in the other thread about needing some levels. My advice to you to gain a couple of levels would be to sit just outside the room with the save crystal, and let guards come to you. Fight until you're almost dead, turn back into the other room, save, and repeat. It will get you the experience points you need to level up without risking a game over.

    edit:
    re: #1:
    How they work
Gaining your first Quickening will bring one new change, you will notice that when your MP is full it will start to glow. Your second Quickening will double your MP as well as splitting your MP into two. The third will triple your [original] MP and will split your MP bar further into three parts.

The split in the MP's are called "Mist Cart"'s short for Mist Cartridges, and the Quickenings use certain amounts of Mist Carts to be used. The first Quickening, uses one Cart, second uses two, and the third uses three. Using Quickenings will drain the whole cartridge, meaning that a level 3 Quickening will leave you with 0 MP and so it should ONLY be used in extreme emergencies (preferably near the end of the battles).

    How do I do Combo's
When you select a Quickening you will notice on the bottom right hand corner there will be the names of your three characters, and possibly a button (Square, Triangle, Circle, X) next to their names. Pressing the button will make that character carry out that particular Quickening themselves. If there's no buttons next to the names, press the L2 button to shuffle the list until the button symbol appears. To make matters worse, as the combo's go up, the time limit you have to choose the next combo goes down.
    SOURCE

    I'm pretty sure it's R2 rather than L2.

My suspicion was correct though. There are no buttons to press to actually perform the Quickening; rather, there are options to chain Quickenings together.

Thanks for the help on quickenings. I tried to look at gamefaqs as well but found nothing. I was just really confused cause usually there is SOME KIND of onscreen help to explain, like all the limit breaks in X. That makes sense though, basically i only have one quickening as of now so i guess i have nothing to worthy about in terms of pressing buttons. I'm surprised with something that complicated they don't have a guide in the game.

Ah and that makes sense about the security terminals! I didnt know there were more. I'm kinda pissed because of the random treasures, one time in the storeroom i found an Ancient Sword which was much better than the Zwill Blade Baasch had equipped. I died that time though and haven't been able to find it in the Leviathan since. I just wanted to be sure there was nothing really rare or anything.

Haha yea i figured out last night what a great place for leveling up the Leviathan is, the first time i kinda was just overwhelmed by the number of enemies so i just fled the whole time till i got to Ghis. Once i stopped and tried to fight them i figured out how easy they were and how quickily i could gain levels. It also helps that i have Vossler, him and Baasch are like a two man wrecking crew. I fought many battles after i first got ashe, failing to realize that her gambits weren't even on so she wasn't even doing anything! I still managed to destroy those imperials though. Too bad i can't bring Vossler with me to the Ghis fight. Thus far i've managed to level up everyone in my active team 2 or 3 levels. Even though i think i'm well equipped to fight Ghis, i might stick around a little longer to gain more experience and try to find some more gil on the Leviathan.

    Thanks for the help Loco.

From what I understand of the Quickenings there is a button that will pop for up each of the moves. If there is not a button, press R2 to refresh. When you see a button push it to activate it and it will go after the one you started is finished. You obviously have a limited time to do this is, so when you push the button it will reset the time. It is really hard right now for me, but I only have two, so I think it is going to be a while before I can really do it while, since you can have up to 3.

Does anyone know how to lure out the cluckatrice? The kid said something about finding a beak..can't find anything like that. I thought maybe since it said it was scared of humes that maybe it wouldn't be scared of Fran and i could use her to lure it out but i got Vossler as a guest and there's nothing i can do about that at the moment. Maybe i'm just off alltogether.

I'm wandering around the north bank and finding nothing..i swear i hear some bird chirping it certain areas though

I lured out the Cluckatrice on accident once. Then it raped me. I escaped, but barely. Here's what I did. You know the little area that's like a big circle, where all the chirping comes from? You'll have to go back and do this without a guest. Make sure Fran is THE only active party member, run through the little nest area in circles, kill the monsters, circle a little more, and then zone out to the left. Pull your active party members back out, zone back through, and you'll see one of the chicks rolling toward you. Two seconds later, mom will be there to rip you to pieces.

I did this when I was level 11 and got ganked. They're all immune to Libra, so I'm not sure what level they're at, but I'm sure 15-20 is good enough to avoid certain death. As long as you've got a decent amount of HP, you should be fine.

Sweet gotcha, i figured that Vossler was the problem. I'm fighting Belias right now in the tomb of raithwell but once i'm done i'm gonna have to give the cluckatrice a go seeing that my team is Lv. 18 and Lv. 19 now.

So i should be able to take him on no problem, the Wyvern Lord is a whole other story though haha..definitely have do some more leveling up before trying to take that thing on.

    Thanks again

    EDIT:
I kinda feel like an idiot asking all the questions, but this is more of a random question rather than a help one. But it kinda goes with my last one..but i forgot that it's the rain season in the giza plains..does that mean i can't do the cluckatrice hunt all together or do i have to wait till later in the game?

And a seperate note, does anybody know who or what that thing is wandering the giza plains? You can't talk to it..you can't target it as an enemy..at first i thought it was a monster but it seems to be helping you. From what i saw it cast beserk on toad then tried to kill it?

Did you try to equip the Goddess Magicite, because that have MP=0, which means you have no MP. It sadly does not mean casting does not take away MP. That confused me for a bit too until I looked closer.

You mean that Bangaa who's out hunting monsters?

Some of the areas have NPC adventurers. It's really that simple.

He cast Protect on Vaan and Penelo way back in the beginning of the game.

In some part of the game you need to use the Dawn Shard, and when a character is equipt with that his or her MP will get to zero. There is some more equip that causes this I tink. Just check her inventory and read the description on each of her equiptment.

Hi guy's i'm new. found your site through google, btw love the site. And i'm stuck where I can't progress the story and is ticking me off.

I just finished speaking to the dreamer dude and he sent me to go get a sword, for the life of me the place he send's me has no where I can find to get past doors or teleporter's. The inscription's arn't helping me much. (fyi there's a nice chain farming spot in there to) I talked to everyone in and around the temple. even went back to dreamer dude's place of residence and no such luck to help me progress.

Can anyone help me? If you need more detail please advise.

Any time you ride an airship between towns, if you choose the regular ticket, you get to actually wander around during the course of the flight.

Teleport stones are sold for 200 gil apiece in the airship shops.

Also once you get a high enough clan rank you can go buy teleport stones from the shop in the Muthra Bazaar. I think you have to be Rear Guard or Vanguard for them to sell it. Later on there are other shops that will sell them as well. But the easiest way is definitely the airshop shop. You can also get them as drops from monsters.

I just got to a Rear-Guard and haven't been back to Rabanaster yet. Cool that you can buy them there. I still have around 15 or so, saving them for later. I did however get a bunch of teleport stones from getting a really high combo from the Ogii-Yensa (spelling?) Sandsea.

Those Yensa-Soldier type things that you fight when you first get onto the refinery. I just kept going from place to place and back again and ended up getting like a 49 chain. It was great!

I was wondering if there is actually an item that can double LP points when you get them in battle. Is this true? If so, where can I get it at?

There is a double exp and double LP item, naturally not all as one item. The Golden Amulet or something close to that name is the double LP accessory. Then there is the Embroddered Tippet that is the double exp accessory. Also the people that are not in your party currently will get a double LP if they are wearing the accessory as well.

The double LP item can be found in the Jungle with the bunny ear tribe to the east on your world map. Can't remember the name's. I believe you can buy more than 1 of them and it cost 4k gil each.

Just a quick question, I've been doing some of the hunts and have been getting Items like Rainbow Egg, Holy Stone, and (dammit forgot the exact name but...) Monster Hide. Are these sold like other Loot items or do they need to be kept for a greater purpose in the game?

Selling them is their greater purpose, as I was finding out in a guide. Apparently the bazaar is not made by the number of things you sell, but what you sell. So selling rare loot, will yield you rare items in the bazaar. The Ultima Sword is bought in the Bazaar for one example.
Curious? There's no limits but your own imagination.

I think the only thing you get from hunts that you shouldn't sell is the Great Serpentskin from the Nidhogg mark. This is used in a quest (the same one you gave the flowering cactus thing to i believe), don't have a clue what you get out of it though heh.

    A few simple questions:

1.) With weapon and armor, at the beginning i was under the impression that all the weapon and armor sold in different towns were the same? Now i've noticed that Archades and Balfonheim Port has some of the stronger stuff. Though though they sell different things too..is there really any set town that sells the best equipment or is it simply different items sold? Maybe it's just the most recent town you have visited? I kinda wish Rabanstre sold everything, it's so much simpler and easier that way seeing as it's your central hub of sorts.
2.) On that same note..i know i've seen the golden amulet sold somewhere but i can't remember where and i'm trying to buy a few for my team?
3.) Gaining EXP wise, i'm about to level up my low level characters and i'm trying to figure out the best and easiest way to do it. Does it work like FF X that if you switch a character in even for one hit that they get the same exp as everyone else or does that person have to actually finish off the enemy? And does it work that everyone gains the same amount regardless or is it a set amount split between how many people you used?
