    What is this FFIX kick?

I know it's one of the best of the series, if not the best, but it seems everyone I know has very recently fallen back in love with this game. It's not just TFFers, but people I know irl are replaying it (again) and seem to be having a great time with it.

Perhaps FFXIII really made us miss some things past FF games had to offer, and we're all trying to fill that void by going back to what we know has what we desire.

I might jump on the bandwagon, emulate it on PC since my PC is amazing now, and hook up my PS3 controller to it, even though I have an original copy.

Using two systems for a game from a completely different system. I find that weird and hilarious.

Anyway, people are probably starting to realize that there IS an FFIX. Due to the PS2 debuting in the same year as the release of this game, some people probably didn't even notice.

Haha, I just started a new game last week I kind of want to do a 12 hour run but it's so much work.

And I didn't even finish XIII. I just suddenly had this undeniable urge to play.

    EDIT: What Loaf said.

    A) I'm always playing FFIX in my head.

    B) I'll play FFIX anytime regardless of if I miss it or not.

    P.s. it's my favorite.

Haha I love that you brought that up che bc I just finished another playthrough of the game because of how much I love it. Did a level one playthrough and was able to beat Trance Kuja and Necron on my first go at them. It's such a fantastic game that I, like Loaf, can play it at any time and enjoy it just as much as I did the first time. On to try and beat Ozma with a lvl 1 party now. Gotta love some FFIX!

It's quire rare to find a copy with the 4 discs. Another option is to buy a PSP, buy a PSN card, and download it from the internet. It's expensive, but it's worth the effort.

That's what I did anyway. I played FFIX in 2002, and because it was borrowed, I gave it back (didn't have a chance to get to Kuja's Palace) and I never played it again until mid-2010 by doing the method I just mentioned. Until that happened, I was tormented by dreams of me getting FFIX, only to realize in the end that it was a dream. Do you get those too?

If you don't like my method, it's fine. I paid over $200 for that. I say it's worth it because, with a good Internet connection (I went to my local library for that), it ensures you get FFIX. And you can play it anytime you want.

Re: What is this FFIX kick?

Yeah, Leon's method kicks ass and is what I chose.
The beauty is it plays all PSX games available on PSN including VII, VIII, IX and other RPGs like Grandia. Oh and they all work on PS3 as well.

I recently played through it all on PSP while on public transport and working and think it's seen as a big deal as it had a great story, good graphics and doesn't have the at times horrible voice acting of later games. The humour is great as well and doesn't seem as readily apparent in newer (and some older) titles in the series.

Funny you should say that, I'm replaying it as well! I was actually on another board, which is mainly a Final Fantasy IX fan site (well, it was back in the day...), and one of the guys said he was replaying it, so that inspired me to play it again.

I've actually been meaning to revisit it for quite some time now, but haven't had the time. Since I've been laid up with my leg, there's been nothing to do, so I decided to start playing it again. I started it on New Year's Eve and am already halfway through Disc 2.

EDIT: Coo, just looking at the prices on eBay (UK); used ones are quite reasonable (considering second hand Final Fantasy VII copies start at around £40) at around £30 counting postage and packing. I've seen a new one for nearly £90, though, and another mint condition for £120. Bloody hell!

2nd EDIT: Final Fantasy VII stuff is much cheaper than it was 5 years ago. Which doesn't really surprise me; the spin-offs have made the original game more popular again.

I had the same thought a while back this is the only game that cant be emulated properly for PSX it stops at one of the FMV's with Bahamut and just refuses to play so it looks like you should buy it on PSN i was really dissapointed after playing through that far in the game it's somewhere in the 3rd disc btw and it just stops and fails at playing.

For me, I would say the cutscenes, just something epic about watching them all the time lol. Plus Zidane for some reason just seemed too legit to quit.

Good thing I still have the original game, gonna replay it the first chance I get.

Re: What is this FFIX kick?

I've been playing it recently, but not because it is my favorite. I've been doing a FF burn, playing through every FF game to 100% completion from FFI to FFXIII. I just happen to be on FFIX at the moment, so I find this sudden jump in interest a really strange coincidence. I haven't gotten that far in it this play through as I've been tied up with other things recently.

It is one of my favorites, but not the top. The game was pretty good up until the final boss, which was a giant WTF. Never heard of it the entire game and all of a sudden right at the very end it pops up and goes "muaahahaha!!!! I AM THE TRUE BOSS!" Um... yeah.

Like all of you, I recently started playing IX again. I'm in Terra at the moment.

I think XIII did make me miss the good old style of gameplay. I've been playing re-playing VII, VIII and IX from PSN, but most of my focus has been on IX. It truly is a masterpiece.

My last run I did it on my PS3 and I gotta say that the graphics didn't look too wonderful on it. I would say that they were better on the original PS2, are they that much better on an emulator?

Re: What is this FFIX kick?

I just got to Disc 4 today, and I have completed the Chocobo Hot and Cold and Treasure Hunting side quests. I've also obtained everyone's ultimate weapons (except Vivi's and Amarant's, since they're in Memoria). I'm almost done with the Stellazio one and I have yet to finish the Friendly Monsters side quest so I can fight Ozma with a SLIGHT advantage.

The third run is more complete than the last two. Third time's the charm, after all.

    Yeah like super better seriously.
Depends on how good PC you have though.

To me it looks like a ps2 game, so clean and nice.
You can see the faces alot better and the rendering is almost perfect.
It kinda looked like a remake actually, just how awesome it was.

Re: What is this FFIX kick?

    I passed the game today.

Gonna say that this time was a close one. It was going okay until I had Vivi cast Doomsday. Huge mistake. I thought I had Shadowproof equipment, but had it not been for Amarant's using Aura the turn before I would have started all over. Wanna know what's worse? Right after Amarant came back to life, Necron used Grand Cross! Again, that was close, because he came out unscathed. Used Revive on my party and finished Necron off with Limit Glove. My stats in the end were:

    Amarant 1 HP
    Vivi 1 HP
    Quina 1 HP
    Eiko 254 HP

Overall, it's a great game. I'm not going off-topic here. It proves that in FFIX, even if you're about to lose, it ain't over until it's over!

Third playthrough, and I still give it a 10 out of 10.

Just recently I finished FF IX, and I have wanted to start back over for a couple of weeks now.

One employee at our local game stop just started playing it again, and when we started having a discussion about it two more random customers jumped in on the conversation, saying they still play ever once in a while, and more so FF IX then any other FF in the series.

Their has been countless time's (for me) when FF is brought up, they all start talking about IX, so I think the kick has always been around and will be for a long time to come. Hell when I'm 60 years of age, I'll be making my grandchildren play it which by then I'm sure the will laugh in my face when they see the graphics.

I'm sure you'll be the greatest grandparent in the world.

Heck, I'm going to put away some of the things I love, namely Final Fantasy, so I can jokingly tell my kids why I'm the best parent in the world.

I kid on that last part, but I'd so do it so kids don't fall in love with just plain graphics so easily. Gotta let them know storytelling counts, too.

I am glade that more people are realizing how truely a wonderful game Final Fantasy IX is and that it is getting love. I love this FF it is my favorite next to FFVI. It has a top of the line story compared to any book, movie, or anything and great character development as well a wonderful soundtrack.

Re: What is this FFIX kick?

Easily my fav FF, and its very challenging if you try to meet certain goals.

I really don't see how people can bash it, I mean it may not be quite as complex as FF8 and maybe not as dramatic as FF7, and some have bashed the combat for being slower than other FF's. But I prefer character classes to customized robots, it gives them more character if they have special unique skills and abilities. FF9 is def the best to me character and story wise, it just has the most likeable characters. Many fans of FF9 will defend it rabidly for some reason. It is just a game but it was a great game for me and possibly my favorite one on PSX.

Re: What is this FFIX kick?

Personally not my fave FF game but it is decent and has all the appeal that a FF game should so I am glad I played through it and I do intend to do it again some time in the future and complete the side quests I didn't do the first time round.
