I don't believe changing how the game plays during battle would be a good idea, think they would need to keep the game mechanics the same and just upgrade it visually, same story line and all. If this rumour turns out to be truth I believe the internet would explode. Some part of my soul remains hopeful though. The part that's screaming like an adolescent schoolgirl. Bless FF7. That game is one of the best of the best.

Completely agree, nothing should change with the storyline.

This could be an awesome remake, just hope it is!
