    Omega The Ultimate Letdown

Hi guys, this is my first post here. I've been playing FF games since about 2001. I had started playing FF5 on a snes emu many years ago but never got to finishing it. I recently started playing again from scratch, got all the way to Omega and was ready for a super long and hard battle (such as Omega Weapon in FF8), so I quickly buffed my whole party to get ready for a long haul.

I then hit him once with X-fight (with 2 weapon and lightning 3 magic sword) and he keeled over like I was squashing a fly. I just got left with this empty feeling of "meh". Biggest letdown EVER (aside from FF12 of course <-- my opinion, dont rage me)

Shinryuu on the other hand was a bitch the first couple times I tried, till I figured out a nice strat for him (I refuse to use faq's for bosses)

considering that most of his attacks involve either very high damage or very bad status ailments (petrify/instant death), you must of had a lucky run with him. Nice job?

even so, the amount of abilities and job masteries that you probably had overrode any difficulty on Omega. Also having the right equipment comes into play too (thats the only reason that Mirage sells the fire/coral rings is to have a chance vs the optional bosses anyways)

The problem is that he died IN ONE HIT!!!!! Only 3 abilities were needed, and my characters were so under-leveled that I expected to get creamed (+- lvl 35 against Omega, lvl 40 by the time i finished ExDeath)

lol, didn't know you could berserk shinryuu. i just equiped the different rings on my characters and used phoenix summon. had 2 summoners with x magic and 2 chars with xfight and 2 weapon. Took a lot more effort than Omega, but wasn't to bad

I'd say it's the tactic, perhaps...

Erm...yeah. Rapid Fire/Dual Wield/Spellblades. That's like saying Sephy is hard to beat because you used Knights of the Round. I think that's the solution to the problem: it's meant to be a challenge without the exploit. Dealing something close to 80,000 HP in a single turn should be capable of slaying darn near anything (Bolt 3/Thundaga should probably have dealt him 9999 damage, if not something over the 6000 points), even more when you exploited his exploit. Consider that you lasted 3 turns; if the party had died before that, then it would have been even worse. So I should also agree with party composition and levels in jobs (remember that you could be level 30, but mastered all jobs because of fighting high AP monsters).

Shinryuu is harder mostly because of that; it's harder to use the exploit on him. Though supposedly Dual-Wielding Crystal Lances works?

Well the thing is, in all FF games (well most) the optional bosses tend to require a lot more than the story bosses (eg. Dark Aeons in FFX, Omega Weapon in FF8), so in all honesty it was purely a letdown seeing as Omega in FF5 had such low hp, was expecting somewhere around 400k hp rather than a measly 40k. Considering he was of the two "strongest" bosses I expected to absolutely NEED the strongest ability combinations... heck, I didn't think I stood a chance

Erm...consider the following: Neo Exdeath has 50,000 HP. Omega has about 10% that amount. You did somewhere between 50,000 to 80,000 damage on your barrage (likely between 6250 and 9999 per hit), and that was while exploiting his weakness (Lightning). So yeah, shouldn't be a surprise: you used the game's best known exploit (again, Dual Wielding/Rapid Fire/Spellblade) to defeat him, so it should have been a piece of cake.

Recall that, on that time, and with the knowledge of that time, having more HP than the final boss was indeed a sign of a long, drawn out battle. Consider, for example, defeating Omega without Bolt 3 on your weapon (just using Rapid Fire and Dual Wield). Or not using Rapid Fire (just Dual Wield and Thundaga/Bolt 3). The battle would have likely been harder, because you're playing as intended. However, when you use the singlemost powerful exploit in the game, it kinda makes sense that a) it wouldn't have been a joke and b) you probably mastered Mystic Knight/Sorcerer, Hunter and Ninja, found Mime, and thus had all three abilities (because you can't have Rapid Fire without having Mime (I bet you used Mime, right? Because otherwise you couldn't have three abilities, much less Rapid Fire/Barrage and Spellblade/Sword on the same character AND have Dual Wield equipped). That means that, at the very best, you had around +43 Strength, enough of a modifier to deal some insane damage. Couple that with the best weapon you can get, and perhaps one buff or two, and you can realize it's not the lack of challenge but that there was no challenge at all with that set-up.

Remember: you're playing the game on these times, where bosses with 65 million HP and over 13 forms are commonplace. Omega is a joke compared to these.

    Re: Omega The Ultimate Letdown

I get what you're saying, and I respect your opinion, but it was still such a letdown
I didn't even know he was weak to lightning, I just used lightning and fire on my swords because I expected him to be immune to holy. 2 chars were mimic x-magic users and i chose to use freelancers for other 2. 2 weapon is automatically available for freelancer (once ninja learns it or masters the class, cant remember) so it still left 2 open slots. I just replayed Omega using 2 weapon without lightning sword or x-fight, killed him with 2 double cast syldra dealing 24k instead (6kx2 with 2 casters)

    You playing the GBA version?
Totally forgot were both Omega and Shinryu are located..

But good job on whacking Omega under-leveled, didn't know that was possible.

    Re: Omega The Ultimate Letdown

Read first post. Snes emulator. Omega is the machine walking around right after the forest if I'm not mistaken. If you warp 3 times in the last area(s) there is a treasure chest containing Shinryuu.

Edit: Apparently Shinryuu is even harder in the GBA version, or there are 2 different Shinryuu's, something like that

Lol yeah i didnt see all the words, always someone to correct every little raisin
Oh i remember both of them, which reminds me, i still have to beat both of them i think, FFV is one of the few classic FF i havent beaten the crap out of. Only twice but not mastering fully, GBA version is mostly mastered though.

Once im in the last dungeon i cant find Omega right?

He's meant to be defeated by a very specific set-up, and even then, there's an element of luck to it. If you don't have X-Fight/Rapid Fire, Spellblade, and Dual-wield, you'll be scrambling not to be annihilated by Mustard Bomb.

Now try fighting Shinryu without Jumps.

I'm going through a bit of a The World Ends With You phase right now.

    Re: Omega The Ultimate Letdown

Hmm, I guess that's why in the GBA version they added Omega MK2 and Neo-Shinryuu

But seriously, almost all Hyper bosses are slime... FF8 Omega, I solo'ed with squall without holies, though I did get 3 lionhearts in a row LOL!

If you are using a Snes emulator, try the GBA emulator and fight Enuo, Omega MK2, or Neo-Shinryuu

Your pathetic existence will shut down. I will make your lives end in ruin. Fear me, as you fear death. Not a threat, not a promise, but what must be finished. 7 final arcs...
