I was raised on platform and puzzle games, as were my brother and sister. But as we grew up, we each went on different paths. I went toward RPGs, my brother racing and shooters, and my sister toward sims. I wouldn't even go in our game room if my brother or sister was playing their games because I thought those games were so boring. But one day I had finished all the games in my collection. All that was left were racing, shooter, and sims games. Instead of going into an entertainment blackout, I gave the other games a try. I found that I was really quite good at them, and also that they did have some fun value to them.
Then a few years ago, when rhythm games were all the rage in my town, I swore that I would never pick up a plastic guitar, and that I would never ever dance around on a mat with arrows on it. Alas, I had once again completed all the games in my arsenal. And it just so happened that the rhythm games were on sale, so I purchased both Guitar Hero III and High School Musical 3 Dance games (the HMS game was the only one that came with the mat, sue me). I really enjoyed playing them, and a little embarrassed (hello, it was High School Musical).
But really all game genres have their fun in them, even when you are certain that they don't.
