I'm going through Resident Evil 6 right now, and I can't express even the slightest how disappointed I am. I'm not even sure where to begin, there's so much wrong with this game and not just compared to older games in the series.
Resident Evil 6 is simply ridiculous, calling it "over the top" won't do it justice. I've seen less action in rail shooters, hell, Michael Bay movies have less explosions. Every elevator you go in will either explode or have its cords cut. The game is simply bent on making even the slightest tasks/events over dramatic. 80's action movies seem down to earth compared to Resident Evil 6. I usually don't look for much logic in video games, certainly not in games like Resident Evil, but goddamn, there's no way whatsoever any character would survive half of what's been going on in Resident Evil 6.
You'll die often, not because this game is challenging, you simply won't react fast enough to QTE's that appear every few steps. There's no such thing as a cutscene without QTE's in Resident Evil 6, it's irritating to say the least. There's no sense of horror, in fact you'll often run towards monsters to punch them in the face. Melee attacks are overpowered and you'll never even come close to run out of ammo. No jump scares either, efficient ones at least. Music is either not there or you'll wish it's not there at how uninspired and anticlimactic it is.
The entire game is as straightforward as it gets, there's no exploration. No puzzles whatsoever.
Then there are technical issues like numerous game breaking bugs, for instance in Leon's campaings, chapter 4-4, no matter what at the end of it you'll always get "mission failed" screen, and the Quad Tower chapter won't load at all. From what I read it seems I might face similar bugs later on.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg (I may actually add some stuff later). Everything, and I do mean everything Resident Evil was known and loved for is gone with this game. This is all I have to say to Capcom right now...
I haven't been this disappointed with a video game since Dragon Age II.
What is the most disappointing video game you played, and why?

"insert nix's generic hate of resident evil from #4 onwards response"
Glad I'm not invested in RE. I can think of a few...Shadows of the Damned was the least likely offender, only problems with it being buggy and lacking in depth. Many of the newer Sonic games starting with '06, though to name some specifically I'd say Black Knight and Chronicles. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the biggest disappointment I've had, though Saints Row 3 and 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes are all very close for various reasons.
I liked RE4.

You sure it's not a ripoff of Pong? Because I'm pretty sure it's a ripoff of Pong.
As far as most disappointing games go, there are a few different options, but recently I guess I'd have to point out Ryse: Son of Rome. The gameplay is pretty awesome but the game is seriously short. It's ever so mildly tactical, but for the most part, rather bland. Super awesome effects. Lots of fun to play. Just... disappointing.
At least with Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes we knew what it was going to be (one hour, forty-five minutes of gameplay) before anyone started playing it.

The thing about GZ for me is it was not worth it to release it by itself, and being less than half a game wasn't worth half price. I would not have paid a cent for any of the past MGS tutorial sections if sold separately, and frankly find each of them better.
I was dissapointed at the start of it but came to really enjoy resident evil 4 after id finished it. I thought it was a great 3rd person shooter at the time plus still maintained a horror element within(well...the merchant was so random n creeped me out xD), good pacing and atmosphere.
All of that seemed to be stripped from 5 onwards, but the seed of doubt was under the surface in resident evil 4, it just didn't become fully apparent and take the forefront until the 5th installment T_T. I havent played a single resi game since. And I don't think I ever will again. Unless they reboot the series to be like the first 3 REs esp the 2nd hehe.
Searching my memory its safe to say RE5 and FFXIII are the most dissappointing games that Ive ever played. Why FFXIII? Hmm..Biggest pos ever. Literally fell asleep playing it, no jk. I have to pretend it never existed n that it actually has fans for my sanity. RE5 was just a huge letdown. A far cry from a horror game coupled with companion AI that had absolutely no problem with wasting as many bullets as possible on a single zombie. Was hard enough to convince someone to play it let alone on co-op with me. I love both the RE(0,1,2,3,Code Veronica n 4) and Silent hill games(1-3)
Oh n ive only ever planned on getting GZ once Phanton Pain is released. in a bundle ^^
Also absolutely nowhere near in Re5&FFXIII's league of "dissappointing" but Devil May Cry 2 because of how much I loved the first game. There was a pretty long period of denial. but then...DMC3-prm9sw2E1r1t9ic. Years n a DMC4 later not only did capcom decide that itd be a most splendid idea to outsource the Devil May Cry series to a western dev -4muvvDPGU1qk7fd8.- they also decided to reboot the series - mv4o5nbR1qk7fd8.
Capcom..
Okay to actually contribute.
I'd the the one game that did that was Devil May Cry 2. I turned it on, and turned it off.

GTA 5 is GTA 4 with a new look. That is what it felt to me.
To me, GTA hasn't really changed at all since GTA 3, let alone add some cool features here and there. The game is the same almost every time and yet it's praised as this OMG WTF AMAZZZZZZZZZING
The zzzzz's is how I feel, it's boring and puts me to sleep almost immediately. To me, GTA 3 to Vice City was just adding Heli's and Motorcycles.....
San Andreas added some more things on the side to do, but honestly that isn't something great, shooting was changed.
Going into 4 it was really good but once again it feels like the same thing.
GTA is just the same game with a new look every time.

Say what you want about GTA, but everybody wants it and be glad its not controlled by the likes of EA who would have one out every year, rockstar take their time and add new scope to each release, the only GTA that didn't impress me was san Andreas, GTA 4 was a huge jump with it being the first on the next gen, I wasn't blown away by it either but it is an amazing game, in comparison to the shit they churn out these days. GTA5 was great from what I played, the difficulty was bumped up and you couldn't go on rampages for too long as the cops are lethal and not as easy to avoid like in all previous games, the driving was alot more real, at first I hated it as I wasn't able to do the shit I used to always do, I was forced to change tacs in order to survive and when you're speeding in gta5 it really feel/looks like you are going an insane speed and clipping something could and usually would be the end of you. GTA is fun to play, im not sure what else you would be expecting every release? Its the type of game that people will always want and im glad its in rockstars hands, if it were Ea it would probably be gta15 and then you would be onto something with your opinion
It sure is hard posting from mobile devices, I can hardly remember what I've typed above..
With regards to what im disappointed with the most, its final fantasy, it disgusts me how much they warped it to appeal to a broader audience, the story, characters and combat systems are just crap for lack of a better description, I'll go into this more later, actually I won't, as i feel i have done that topic to death over the years.. I'll think of something else.. to hate on...MUWHAHAHA! Sorry
Hard to put everything I dislike about GTA5 in a concise way. I wouldn't say it's bad by any means but it feels rushed and dumbed down in a lot of ways.
The driving is one of the bigger issues. People will argue it's not meant to be a driving sim, but why not? Driving is probably what you'll be doing at least 60% of the time. GTA4's driving wasn't perfect but I felt it was far better. It's obvious that the physics are cut down and this effects a lot of other things like ragdolling being all but entirely replaced by preset animations. It's no longer fun to mow pedestrians down or jump out of your car to see how random the outcome could be. Stuff like racing is boring because it really just comes down to who has the fastest car, rather than any skill with speed management or drifting.
They've gone in the entirely opposite direction with flying for who knows why, adding this annoying wind resistance to simulate any sense of challenge. Helicopters wobble like crazy without any input. Once again I prefer 4's flying, having had many hours of fun having heli battles online with friends. Cutting off other heli tails with the blades doesn't even seem possible with 5's watered down physics engine.
The story started out ok but seemed to really just turn into a hollywood action flick. San Andreas and 4 didn't have amazing stories but I felt they were a bit more genuine and had better side characters and villains. The bad guys in 5 are all incredibly bland. As much as Trevor's my favorite of the three playable characters, it's believable that he was probably meant to be the villain before the idea for more than one protagonist came about. Michael would have been the hero, and Franklin is almost entirely useless and way underdeveloped, so he was most likely written last. Of course it's hard to discuss without spoiling too much.
As far as gameplay goes, 3 playable characters really didn't add a lot. Was stupid to believe it then but I think it came as a surprise to a lot of people that the transitions between characters just put them into preset scripted events that would eventually become repetitive. Adding more clothes and hair styles and customization was good but felt pointless when characters would change into whatever they wanted when I was busy playing as someone else. As far as missions go, there just aren't a lot of opportunities to switch, negating any idea of variation. It actually feels too restrictive at times. Being scripted is a huge problem for 5 in general.
Cops no longer actually roam the streets, whether by car or by foot. Occasionally you'll see some chasing criminals but you'll be getting deja vu before too long; these scenarios are more scripted than in past games. They'll all happen in the same places, at the same times, and this applies to more than just cop chases. Other seemingly random events will feel like a bore once you start to see them happening in exactly the same way over and over again. It makes the world feel a lot less lively when almost nothing is dynamic.
The online is up there with the driving for me. Nevermind the most horrible launch I've experienced - things like bigger garages, buying houses and apartments, and a ton of other features that were promised and should have been in the main game have only made it into online. The rewards for the boring and overly simplistic missions were already pretty low amounts of cash and xp, but Rockstar decided to cut them down even further in an attempt to get people to buy their cash cards. The whole "bad player" thing is absolute bullshit; having to blow up an excessive amount of vehicles or kill an excessive amount of players is a null point in its defense because it should not warrant any punishment at all in the first place. Going out of your way to avoid any and all violence goes against the nature of the series, but I guess I should know better when they spent time and money developing a yoga mini-game.
nice post mr boxman, I didn't actually notice the lack of ragdoll in 5, I didn't get to that phase of the game. When playing GTA we kind of go through phases when we first get the game, atleast I do, at first I take a good chunk out of the story so I unlock most sections/vehicles etc, then there is the random rampages, then the killing yourself in weirdest ways possible, a fave of mine was jumping out of a chopper while tilted forward so my body gets hurled into the propeller blades and then flung randomly across the map, always gave me lots of laughs. So im clearly a stoner, big whoop, wanna fight about it?!?
GTA is thee ultimate play with your mates console game, I don't think id ever be let down by the game in full, disappointed they left something out? sure, but never enough to hate the game..

I for one adore San Andreas, GTA IV while fun and gorgeous looking felt like a step back in many aspects, though nowhere near disappointing like some other titles. Boxman, I appreciate your response, I'll be sure to come back to it once I actually get my hands on GTA V.
