Your thread is looking lonely, S. Let me help.
Final Fantasy fell flat for me when they started making all the damned sequels to FF7. I don't like the character models, style, gameplay, etc.. It seems about that time that they decided they were going to start making interactive movies instead of RPG's, culminating in FF13 for me. To me, it is important for a Role Playing Game to allow me to make different choices. Where I go next, what I do, etc. Let me go off the beaten path. Let me interact with the world beyond fighting monsters and making weapons. Give me more than 7 NPC's to talk to. Also, I'd loved the FF series for its often times unique and interesting characters. In FF13, I felt like the "unique" part was kind of missing (although I suppose the "interesting" part was still there.) Didn't care much for Dissidia either.
The Metroid series was great for me up until Super Metroid. I bet I'd enjoy the GBA titles, but I never got them when they were new, and they'd probably cost an arm and leg now. Prime seemed like it would've been a cool game... if I could get past the control scheme. I hear the Wii versions of those games are much better though, so maybe I'll try those some day. Anyway, now, I have Other M... I find that I don't like the design of the world or the gameplay. Samus hanging out with space marines also kinda makes me go "Eh." And I haven't gotten far enough into the game to see the thing people complain about most, which is Samus' relationship with Adam.
Warcraft fell flat when they decided to change it from a RTS to a MMORPG.
