Well to repond to the question that started the later part of this convo, yes Silver I do infact have a first gen 60 gig PS3. And it's visual enhancements and smoothness options make PSX gen games look really decent. Better then the PS2 can do, well at least that is my opinion.

Well on a crazy note I just ran across this in a news article about the new PS3 slim.

"there’s one major omission: some older PS3 models are 'backwards compatible' and will play PS2 games games, but the Slim won’t. According to Sony brass, that feature is gone for good."

I found this to be quite discouraging for the most part and rejoice in the abilities of my 60 gig.

Anyways here is the source of this quote: Is now the time to buy a Playstation 3? - plugged in - Yahoo! Games

    Thoughts on the matter?

Sony has been saying this same thing for over a year now. But then again, they also vehemently denied that a price drop or PS3 slim was in the works right up until its announcement. I believe Jack Treton's words were something along the lines of "I've never even seen those pictures" regarding the leaked photographs of the PS3 slim. So take what Sony says on the matter with a grain of salt. The fact is that Sony did patent a PS2 emulator not too long back, so they have to be using that for something. It's possible that they plan to sell PS2 games over PSN, in an attempt to make people re-buy them, but if that were the case, I don't see why PS1 BC is still available when they could be doing a similar thing with their PS1 classics collection. We'll just have to wait and see.

I didn't know about this either, I just thought the new PS3 slims didn't support it (via an article I read) but I was unaware it wasn't supported by every PS3 out there outside the originals (which do not come with a dual shock controller)

I read a comment somewhere further up about the PS3 gives wireless dual shock controllers, where as 360 and Wii don't compare.

    1. Nintendo originated first party support for wireless controller devices ala wavebird for Gamecube.

    2. XBOX 360 ships with a wireless controller with vibration function, and has since the beginning. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sony didn't even support vibration function until recently and are not replacing the non vibrating controllers shipped and/or purchased by gamers before the change.

I also don't know how the PS3 controllers work, but with the 360 you can buy first-party Li-Ion batteries with a charging cable that allows you to charge while playing via the 360's USB ports.

Also, if you have a netflix subscription and a decent internet connection you can instantly stream your netflix streamable content over the 360 with very nice resolution.

Also, most of the titles I've seen floating around here for "reasons to buy PS3" are multi-platform.

Not to derail this into a PS3 vs 360 topic.

All authentic PS3 controllers come preequiped with integral batteries capible of recharging while playing. The down falls to this is the fast that Sony delivers a 3' USB cord. This is a major hinder due to the fact that my PS3 sits about 20 FT away from my couch. I have to move the whole system just to play and charge at the same time. But there are longer cords availible and charging stations if you wish to spend the extra $$$.

Also if you think back Sony was the first to release that the PS3 would have a wireless controler stock. With the cube it was an option; but I see where you are coming from with this one. I still scoff at the WII mote.

In other words, not to post what you just posted. You managed to type a whole sentence about backwards compatibility, while the rest of your post was irrelevant console war bullshit (some of which is simply incorrect). That's like punching someone in the face and then telling them you don't want to fight.

    Seriously, Netflix? Wtf?
