The games you didn't ask for

Have you ever received a game for your birthday or for christmas (box, bag, stocking) that you didn't ask for that you either liked or didn't like? and how many times did it happen?

To me, this happened 2 maybe 3 times. First time my sister and I went to get stuff out of our stockings and one of the things I pulled out was a game, cartridge only, called Smart Ball and it was for SNES. Second time around christmas time, I got Disney's Aladdin for SNES, and the last time it happened was on my 9th birthday and I got Beetle Adventure Racing for the N64.

Re: The games you didn't ask for

Hmm... I had to look at my collection to see about this one. I can only see one game that might be fit for this topic:

    Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales
. I got it out of the blue from my mom. I only asked her to go pick up a Player's Guide to a game that I wanted/needed, and when she came back, she had the guide and that particular game. I think that she saw that it had Final Fantasy in the title, and bought it for me. At first, I didn't like it that much, but then it really grew on me. It's actually pretty fun to play and doesn't take itself seriously, which is pretty refreshing for a FF game.

Dang, I just remembered there was another game I got. I was 7 at the time and my brother came over to the house to visit and he was holding a game in his hand and it was NBA Hangtime for the Super Nintendo. I got alot of enjoyment out of playing that game.

Re: The games you didn't ask for

Most of my Genesis games were bought for me without asking as I had no idea what games were good and which weren't at the time. Maybe a few were bought by me asking in the store after seeing a cover or something, but most were gifts. One such game I didn't ask for was Shining Force, which my dad found in a bargain bin and randomly decided to buy for me. Turned out to be my favourite game of all time.

    Until now!

My older brother bought Rayman on PS2 for me one year I didn't particularly like it, I played it a bit but yeah it didn't catch on. I don't know where it is now I think I left it for my little brother, all my other games I have bought myself.

Once I got Iron Man for PSP for Christmas, didn't ask for it, and ended up liking it. Lol, this happens to me a lot, sometimes other stuff than games... As for my birthday, my parents don't know what to get me usually so I end up getting more money than gifts.

I asked for Legend of Dragoon and my cousin borrowed me Final Fantasy IX instead, I loved it but had to return it pretty soon. Then I begged for Final Fantasy IX and my father bought Final Fantasy VIII, luckily I loved it.

Re: The games you didn't ask for

I think there were some more games that I got that I didn't ask for... let me think of them: I got super mario land from my brother one day, I got Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 for N64 from the same person without asking for it, my mom bought me Wave Race: Blue Storm for Gamecube which was fun. If I remember more, I'll bring it up in a later post.

EDIT: waitwaitwait.... I forgot this too, thats how I also ended up with Mario Party 2

Re: The games you didn't ask for

Christmas of '06 my girlfriend at the time got me WoW as a present. She had asked a co-worker of ours who was my friend about what games I would like. I think she had a general idea that I liked RPGs, I don't know how though since I really didn't talk about video games with her since she wasn't a gamer. He, my friend, was a gamer and an avid WoW player so he suggested that game. I'm not a WoW fan or ever have been so that gift was a on the "poor" side. I did finally try WoW out at the insistence of another friend, who is a dedicated WoW player (scheduled raids and all), for around 2 weeks.

Re: The games you didn't ask for

My parents weren't really big into buying me games. The last one I got was Sega Channel. You get this big cartridge thing that hooks up to the cable line in your house and they would have 50-100 games, that change every month. Never really asked for it but it was awesome. Though now I own a sega and only have Sonic 2(which I have never played) for it.

    SPOILER!!:
[Having pulled over a speeding driver.]
Mac: All right, how about Cat Game?
Foster: Cat Game? What's the record?
Mac: Thorny did six, but I think you can do ten.
    Foster: Ten? Starting right meow?
[They go up to the car.]
    Driver: Sorry about the...
Foster: All right meow. Hand over your license and registration.
[The man gives him his license.]
Foster: Your registration? Hurry up meow.
    Driver: [laughing] Sorry.
Foster: Is there something funny here boy?
    Driver: Oh, no.
Foster: Then why you laughing, Mister... Larry Johnson?
    [Foster stares at him.]
Foster: All right meow, where were we?
Driver: Excuse me, are you saying meow?
    Foster: Am I saying meow?
    Driver: I thought...
Foster: Don't think boy. Meow, do you know how fast you were going?
    [The man laughs.]
Foster: Meow. What is so damn funny?
Driver: I could have sworn you said meow.
Foster: Do I look like a cat to you, boy? Am I jumpin' around all nimbly-bimbly from tree to tree? Am I drinking milk from a saucer? DO YOU SEE ME EATING MICE?
    [The man is uncontrollably laughing.]
Foster: You stop laughing right meow!
Driver: [Stops and swallows hard.] Yes sir.
Foster: Meow, I'm gonna have to give you a ticket on this one. No buts meow. It's the law.
[Rips off the ticket and hands it to the man.]
Foster: Not so funny meow, is it?
[Foster gets up to leave, but Mac shakes his hands at him, indicating only nine meows.]
    Foster: Meow!

Re: The games you didn't ask for

Call of Duty 3. Some guy my dad knows bought a PS3 for his son, and the game came free with it, but he didn't want Call of Duty 3. So he gave it to my dad who gave it to me. I've not enjoyed war games since Medal of Honor on the PS1, so it's sitting on my shelf unused.

Going back to PS1 games, most of the games we have were things that just turned up out of the blue. When we were on holiday, the caravan we stayed in came with a TV and a PS1 (for rainy days away from the beach I guess). Despite us already bringing along the PS2 and most of our games, mum went out and bought us Alien Resurrection for a 'horror night'. We sucked at that game.

There's probably loads more, but those stand out the most in my memory.

Sega channel was one of the best things in the 90's. The best part was they kept a certain amount of games that got played the most for a few months since people wanted to play them again and again.

Amen. The Sega Channel was THE best thing of the 90s. Why there are currently no first party game rental services of the same scale is beyond me.

    Until now!
