Games that Deserve Their Own Movies

Movies based on video games have a poor track record these days. The movie industry doesn't always care to produce quality movies based around some of our favorite video games. Though, some gamers seem to want to see their favorite video games turned into a movie. But why make them if Hollywood always ruins them? Of course, there is always a possibility could turn out very bad, but I’ll take those odds. The potential of making a great movie is worth the risk for some of us gamers and movie buffs.

So what are your favorite games you’d love to see made into movie form? Who would you cast to play your favorite characters?

I would say Mass Effect, but I believe that one is already in development, and probably being taken in the wrong direction, because female Shepherd is far more interesting than male Shepherd, but female Shepherd isn't canon, and Hollywood is sexist and hates strong female protagonists.

I could see Grand Theft Auto as a film franchise, however, if Rockstar decided to ever go in that direction, I see them writing an original story, instead of it being an adaptation of any of their games.

I think Metal Gear would make a pretty good movie. I think Uncharted would, too. And Assassin's Creed. And hell, Last Of Us was so good, they could just shoot it scene for scene, and it would be one of the best movies of all time.

I was going to say this, but then I did some digging, and found that it is in the works. Maybe. Possibly.

Maybe Murdered: Soul Suspect would have made a better movie than a game. But I think I've seen a film with that game's basic concept.

There have been rumors about a Metal Gear movie for years now. I don't know why, but production for it can't seem to get off the ground. I think the latest news is that a screenplay is in development, but I doubt it'll ever see the light of day.

Im generally against the idea of video game film adaptations esp when it comes to my absolute favourite games. I feel some games nowadays are cinematic experiences on their own plus the VAs who portray certain characters do a lot to define em. Some game stories are about an active experience where the joy is being in control and the player being able to make their own choices so its difficult to translate to another medium where we have no interaction. Still, there are games that Ive always felt could make the transition smooth and be condensed into a solid 2 hr film (or trilogy):

Bioshock
Siren: Blood Curse
Shadow of the Colossus
Fatal Frame
Legend of Zelda (a 3D animation movie plz)
Halo series (esp 2)
Metroid Prime
Clock Tower
Dino Crisis
Bayonetta
Watchdogs

Silent Hill happens to be one of my favourite movies of all time - its a solid movie even on its own and idc I loved Mortal Kombat n watched it multiple times when i was a lil girl. The 2D Animated Street Fighter movies are great, SFII is my fave n up there with Silent Hill. Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper I'll be happy to pay $30 to see at the theater this yr n nxt.

Not a movie but one of my favourite video game series is getting its own anime adaptation. Weird but it makes complete sense now that I think about it and is long overdue. I remember wondering why they'd go the live action route before the anime one. Hyped nonetheless.
