I can't do it irl, but everytime I see a youtube comment that looks just dumb enough for everyone to thumbs it up, I thumbs down it immediately. I'm not sure if I'm making an impact or not, but I think the first few votes on a comment could make someone think twice about voting for what they were going to.

I hate those comments that are dumb and 5 people thumbs up it and people just keep doing it thinking they're part of the cool kids. What I do now, is if a comment is really good and has a few thumbs up, I just thumbs down everything around it.

I so badly wish this translated to real life.

That's kind of what i'm talking about, Mel! People say these comments, a lot of the times they are just straight racist, and others like them! So before they even get a chance, I thumbsdown them if I catch it. That way people don't just jump on the bandwagon!

Once you get 10+ likes, it will be at the top of the page as (most liked) and people will just start liking it because they feel like it's cool. The more I can control that the better. I should have multiple accounts on different browsers! OMG GENIUS.

I like when the comments receive so many thumbs down that they get automatically hidden on some sites. Then there's less inane comments to intersect my line of sight by some unfortunate mouse scrolling error.

I don't think that people only like it because they would be part of the "cool" kids. They probably agree with the comment they are thumbs up-ing whether it's dumb or not.

Youtube comments... I have resorted to just ignoring them: entirely. I've found my cure for even looking at them, is I don't log into Youtube anymore... it requires too much time (lol) to login to apply that thumbs up or down around the video.

Hmmm... I DO happen to look through a few comments when I'm trying to find out what the song in the background is, whenever that applies though.

Yeah. Dono why but after seeing them 3.4 billion times I've decided to do everything in my power as a youtube denizen to stop them. Which is really next to nothing, especially if they've gathered 32 likes. . . Oh well

I use the thumb up and down buttons for their intended purposes. If I like something, I'll vote the video or the comment up. If I dislike something, I'll vote the video or the comment down. If I think something is spam, I'll mark it as such.

It's not really my business if someone else liked something or not - I don't know what their intentions where. Youtube is full of trolls, and honestly I'm not about to add to them because I think hitting a rep up or down button proves anything.

As for comments, yes, Youtube needs them. If someone doesn't want comments being given on their video, they can disable them - simple. Unfortunately, some people will get a little butt hurt over particular videos and/or comments, and the millions of comments can't be moderated on a scale that large.

I don't honestly see the pont in comments because people just abuse them.
I watched loads if music videos on there and there is always, always idiots who post things like: "Oh this music is sooo crap", "Worst band ever" and so on, and I want to know why????!!!!!. If you don't like that band or that type of music what the **** are you doing even watching it? Don't just go on there to slag it off, sod off and leave the comments to people who actually like the music.

Well, since YouTube is terrible these days, the comments section has become even more ridiculous.

But I do like when the comments regarding, say a Final Fantasy VIII walkthrough vid, suddenly spiral into a Naruto debate. Gotta love how incredibly stupid the people who use that site are. Its enough to make you want to revoke people's rights to an opinion. >_<

Youtube comments are pretty bad, but the general onslaught of blogs has created the perfect storm for douchebaggery to flourish. When any topic can be turned into a political or religious debate or a topic degrades to a fight to see who is the "true" douchebag, I start to wonder how those people are in real life. I don't waste my time thumbs downing all the trash posts. Going anywhere near that is like trying to clean out an industrial garbage container. It wreaks so bad you just feel dirty being in the general area of it....

Every comment on youtube is about how some woman would look good if she were on her knees, or how the jews and blacks are conspiring against the US somehow. The funniest comment I ever read someone said they wanted to blow a load on some girls chest and have a nap. And naturally like 40 people liked. It shows you how serious the internet can be.

I always thumbs down the self-righteous comments on the Daily Mail website. And believe me, there's a lot of them, usually thumbsed-up (is that the right term? ) by equally self-righteous sheep... uh, I mean, readers.

Whenever I use YouTube, I can only like/dislike videos, or thumbs up/down comments some of the time. I hate that site. I only have an account so I can watch all the videos (some, when I first started using YouTube, could only be viewed if you verified your age, and the easiest way around that was to get an account), and even then, I use my boyfriend's account.

You pick your friends on facebook. You could just as easily unfriend them. Why don't you do that if they're such idiots? And if you're talking about the posts in groups or whatever, you could just leave that group/not read any of the comments on that group's posts. All I'm saying is you have options. Anyhoo...

Huh. Well, you could tell your friend that their friend is a jackass. Be all like, "What's up with so and so? That person is the weirdo, and makes comments that make me uncomfortable." Might not help much, but at least then your friend has to hear from you about their stupid friend.

Also, if it's porn, there is a "report this photo" link on the image's page itself. I doubt all that many people really want to see that kind of thing anyway, so you would be helping others out as well. Anyhoo...
