    Frustrating situations in gaming

    We’ve all been there. Even if you've played only one videogame in your life, chances are you have experienced one or more of the most annoying, enraging, and utterly stupefying moments you could ever come across while gaming. You may have broken a few controllers thanks to at least one of these. I'll start with the first example;

Accidentally hitting “yes” when an NPC asks if you need them to repeat entire explanation.

    Can you list any others?

Havent felt this kind of frustration in a while but u can bet that I did playing the 6 kickass games listed here:

When you have little health and you’re so close to beating a boss but they whip out their ultimate move and kill you..

And no I dont go into fits of rage n break my controllers or anything else for that matter when i get frustrated at a videogame. Im more frustrated at my lack of skill. Once Id finish a game if I found that the gameplay was fun and challenging at normal I play it again at a higher difficulty eg NG2,MGR,DMC3,MGS2. If the gameplay is so good, it always makes up for the diffculty I might have.

I am aware of that thread thankyou! Crescent also did already link it in her comment. I was hoping that this particular topic would elaborate more on the common experiences that gamers run into when playing videogames in general. So it doesnt necessarily have to be an instance where it has been difficult for the player or a certain game per se but you can use them as examples. It could be an common annoyance like the one I gave in my initial post an example of that instance would be the Owl or Navi in Legend of ZeldaOcarina of Time. Hope that makes things a little clearer

Vidmaster challenge at the end of Halo 3...out of the over 9000 attempts, in one we were a few seconds into the final cutscene before the game realized someone died and reloaded the last checkpoint.

There's nothing more frustrating than losing your save file/s, especially if you're far in the game. This is a common issue with cartridge based games with save battery near its end, pretty much each Pokémon game I own suffers from this issue, although easily fixed.

I lost my save files twice while going through Deus Ex: Human Revolution, second time halfway through, I was infuriated to say the least, granted it was kinda my fault as my PC was kinda of a mess at that time.

Uuggh, Pokemon Johto generation. The third gym badge with that girl who only uses "Cute" Pokemon. That Miltank can seriously....trollroll if you know what I mean. I also had the worst time playing Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of memories. Even on beginner mode, Vexen and Larxene trolled. Funny part was that after many attempts, I ended up beating them with simple aggressive sleight abuse. *Smh*

Escort missions. Hate em. Always dread being tasked with escorting a character esp annoying lil girls in and out of harms way. They often aspire to be the world's greatest bullet catcher- Stop running into enemy gunfire or I'll kill u myself. Maybe the EE mission comes to some of ur minds but I didnt mind it at all. The mission is short (a few rooms and barely any enemy resistance) and isn't much a pain. The sniping part is full of great codec/mic conversations and the swimming part is rather easy. Now.. EVA's escort in MGS3 doesnt even compare to EE's in MGS2. I mean, the fact that having a hole in her stomach somehow justifies eating every thirty seconds is enough without being in a forest with nothing more than a few snakes and poisonous mushrooms which is worse considering all your nutritious food is taken from you earlier. This coupled with moving at.02 mph through a forest infested with endlessly respawning enemies..EEs is nowhere as tedious as EVAs escort mission.

And then you get all the way to the end to turn around to realize that EVA's all the way back at the beginning of the area being kicked to death by seven guards because since you got more than five feet away from her and didn't signal she decided just to stop moving and accept death without a struggle. So you have to go all the way back, kill the guards, and do it again. After finally getting all the fkng way to the end of the area, guess what? Final boss battle! That's cool, I didn't need food or ammo anyway.

Goldeneye, in the control room. Escorting Natalya her annoying ass blocky face still haunts me to this day, esp when she just sat there at the computer, ran her dumb ass straight into the line of fire and to top it off wouldnt let me kill Boris of all ppl. She basically had no AI. Resident Evil 5 was the worst escort game let alone an "RE" I've ever played. Wish I never played that crap. I only completed it out of obligation bored outta my frkn mind the entire time no exaggeration. I put FFXIII and RE5 games together outside my apartment complex with a sign "Please take". Both games(n the note scrunched up) gone the same day I returned from work. Still feel guilty..poor souls.. True story

Yeah, Eva was a pain...I usually just knock her out and drag her most of the way through since it's faster, lol. Also spam smoke grenades at the enemies too so at least they're delayed. It's not great but not so bad since feeding Eva noodles will have her just be in her bikini in the pause menu.

Oh I cant do that I only resort to that kind of method if im desperate XD Sry EVA's escort mission isnt as catastrophic as ive made it out to be but whenever escort missions are mentioned ppl often use EEs as a prime example but its EVAs yall should be using. Maybe ppl were desensitized with EEs so EVA was a cakewalk mm or maybe it was because there wasnt any swimming involved..

MGS3 -Epic game. Dun be put off.

Here's my short list (not exclusive to RPGs):

    1) Non-skippable cutscenes or their ugly RPG brethren: pre-boss-fight cutscenes that must play in their entirety, even after a previous failure. We got it after the first time, thanks. No need to monologue for several minutes each time.
    2) Annoying but not game-breaking glitches. There was one in GTA: San Andreas that prevented your character from working out, thus preventing the build-up of muscle. While not crucial to a game filled with guns and vehicular homicide, it was annoying nonetheless. If memory serves, the only "fix" was to delete your save data and start over.
    3) Forgetting to save for a while and then getting obliterated by some unsuspecting enemy that lulls you into a false sense of security.
    4) Sudden and unexpected game freezing, also after not saving for a while. Happens all the time for me while playing select PC titles and also in GTA V Online (though the latter is less detrimental).

..... and about the aforementioned escort missions. **** escort missions! **** 'EM! You might not realize it by the previous sentence but I am normally a very patient person. An escort mission tries, tests and betrays my patience especially when the escortee (?) moves at the speed of snails. If that mission is skippable or optional, I skip it. If it is mandatory, I curse it and then concoct some voodoo magic to use against the developer responsible for green-lighting this mode of gameplay. Escorts are not fun. I would be fine with escort missions if a clever game developer lampoons the annoyance and gives the escortee a shirt with a target painted on it or something. Serious escort missions, however... **** 'EM!
    Hero façade. Villain at heart.

Oh I absolutely hate escort missions with the exception of Bioshock Infinite. Nine times out of ten, the escortee is incompetent and has no clue as to anything. It's like they're drawn towards enemies and the general line of fire.

My other pet peeve is when games spring random "real time" button push events in the middle of cutscenes. Resident Evil 4 was pretty bad with this, especially when it wasn't really precedented in other scenes. I'd be lulled into just watching the scenes, drop my guard, and then have random button presses thrown at me. I'd wind up having to restart several scenes because of this. Totally pissed me off

Returning to an RPG months or weeks later, n ur like htdkuyg..

Your left in the middle of a world map or in a town, between missions, with no recollection of what ur supposed to be doing. So if nothing sufficient from ur past playthru comes to light you'll just start entering random towns (if ur not already in one) and talk to a bunch of NPCs in the hope that one drops a clue or two... Or you'll just stop playing all together like I did with the last rpg I touched -Skyrim. Having finished both Morrowind and Oblivion<3, I think I had a pretty good idea of how much there is to see and do in another Elder Scrolls game before im all like imgur.com/CWq everytime I revisit it. Times are hectic.

Also dont u love it when you've stumbled upon a strong set of armour or weapons bt dang u cant inventory them because muthaf**** your Overencumbered Looked a damn fool wearing only the Daedric cuirass and greaves. At least my(breton) face was pretty.

Long, multiple stage final boss battles. I cant remember encountering one in which you're allowed to save when each new stage of the fight begins; so if you happen to die at the last stage of the fight, you have to start all the way back at the beginning of the fight which is realistic. Megaman X games And Wesker. The whole thing, from the tanker, to the bomber QTE mess to the boulder punching finale. It goes forever, is super annoying in co-op and is basically just the rancid cherry on the RE5 shit sundae.

The only multiple stage final boss battle I never mind:

I try to drag it out for as long as I can...18705

QTEs. Often, they just feel so tacked on. RE4 - The rest of the game was so good that Id totally forgotten or blocked out that weird, terrible, unwelcome blemish. I remember scrambling for the controller on the floor when i was just layin back, enjoying me some Leon eyecandy. Preferable if there was an option to deactivate QTEs like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 had. All in all, Quick Time Events aren’t so bad, they’re just being used in all the wrong places. Resident Evil is one of the worst offenders. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance- Now thats how you do QTEs.

I have yet to come by a single item in Skyrim that is worth holding onto to keep your inventory full. Gold is easy to come by.

In the game The Last Remnant sometimes your characters will get this QTE event for Attacking or Defending. The game plays with your Squad attacking individually but it's in like a sequence sort of like FFXIII. So as I'm watching my people fight, I'm chillin hittin my bong and all of a sudden this QTE for a Crit or Dodge shows up and I miss it. :C I started using Auto Trigger cause I miss it a lot lol.

I remember that too Loaf! Annoying, I also started using the auto trigger ha ha.

My frustrations tend to be me trying to get out of my comfort level with gaming and trying something new. I suck at FPS, but I'll try them out occasionally. I tend to get stuck in corners or get motion sickness. Or if I try to play a stealth game and I am just not a stealth gamer. Much better at jumping out, guns blazing.

I would get crazy annoyed when there would be a power blip and I was soooo freaking close to a save point but just not there yet. That happened more times than I care to admit. Or, if I get too engrossed in the story and forget to save my progress then die. Rage inducing.

Trust me, QTEs are least of its problems.

God of War is the only game where I didn't mind QTEs.

More annoying than frustrating, hate when developers ran out of ideas near the end and decide to pit you against all those bosses you already fought, either all at once or one after the other, Deadpool is guilty of this most recently.

Oh what else didnt u like bout RE4? It could add more to the list of Frustrating situations in Gaming ha.

I have my own tiffs with it apart from the QTEs, but even as a "RE purist" suprisingly I enjoyed RE4. A solid game if not a 'Resident Evil' game, i think most ppl adjusted well to the 'update' in the franchise. Just some of my tiffs with it was the whole supernatural element added to it- doesn't really fit the biohazard theme of the series at all in my opinion. even if it is explained by hallucinations, the way it looked it seemed like an excuse to get away from what RE should really be about: BOWs and then came RE5.... Anyways RE2 is my favourite/the best.

I had barely scratched the surface of what Skyrim has to offer. I was nowhere near close to owning anything of value let alone filling my inventory. Only meant my experiences with Morrowind and Oblivion. In evry ES game Ive played, the very first thing I love to do is set out n just explore! discovering hidden gems(both literally and figuratively) off the beaten path..hidden underwater caverns, tunnels, caves, abandoned homes, dungeons, huts, loner homicidal weirdoes etc and hopefully in my discoveries, I'll usually find n collect valuable items that I think I might need or have use for later on eg side quests or just to sell and before I know it, my inventory is 3/4 full. At least in Skyrim if your overencumbered you can still move! Oblivion took overencumbered to a much more realistic point.

Sry bout the Double post dnt like that ugly 'edited by blahh' sentence at the bottom.

Ashley, one of the most irritating characters ever to appear in a video game. No puzzles whatsoever, no sense of survival, barely any jump scares, no sense of exploration (love finding all those documents, files and photos in earlier games).

Don't get me wrong, despite all that I really enjoyed Resident Evil 4, and with each new game in the series I grow more fond of it, I just find it to be not that good as far as survival horror goes and compared to some earlier titles.

Well I havent been labelled a RE purist for nothing. Pretty much everything you have there^ plus the original cast and any other missing gameplay elements from REs 1-3 is what made me love the franchise in the first place. And yet I still managed to love RE4 regardless..alot more than I should really.weird..yeah I loved finding n reading all those victims diary entries A B,journals, memos, fax sheets, missing files as well...good times

..with each new game in the series I grow more fond of it..
mm yeah sry not me. I dont really have any expectations anymore(like with SE) so wateva..Im still holding out for a reboot tho. Hope -its all I have.

Thats exactly who I had in mind when I wrote that. I did not use hers escort as an example because altho she was so annoying n whiny, I was pleasantly surprised at how well they handled the escorting aspect. I don't remember it ever having been too frustrating or unenjoyable. Her AI is programmed well enough to stay out of your way, and even if you point your gun at her she’ll move. Plus it just seems to be the more natural thing to do, the option to just hide her someplace safe while you forge a path for her to follow. That place would usually be the dumpster then me trying to do a runner - she so annoying..

Also.. Iam a Leon fangirl so back the fk up all u btches

I wrote that poorly, let me clear the misunderstanding, I was referring to Resident Evil 4 not the entire series, I grow more fond of Resident Evil 4 because it's not nearly as bad as what they released these past few years.

Developers are more often than not rather hasty when it comes to reboot, DMC for instance didn't need one, Resident Evil however sorely does as it's beyond saving at this point by any other method. When I saw a zombie shooting at me with a machine gun in Resident Evil 6, in the very demo at that, that's where I drew the ****ing line.

Surprisingly I really liked all the RE's up to the 5, but the 6th one... **** that game...right in the goat ass. On that note 4 is my favorite, took me a while to adjust to it but loved it when i did.

One of my most frustrating things in games is the go here do this, return, go to the other end of the world and do this, return. I think you can see where I am going with that one. Bard's Tale did a really good job parodying this, albeit in a frustrating manner.

Something that just irks me is the whole, I can SEE the chest/item whatever, but I cannot reach it. Try for hours only to find out you get some item that lets you get to it later in the game.

Also, having super sweet items you can only get after you finish with all the side quests in a game, whats the point you finished killing everything of worth.

Dying when you havent saved. Then always making sure to save every 2 seconds after that.

Im with Crescent on this one. QTEs are fine if they are done well. Havent got around to playing MGR just yet. God of war 3, the QTEs are easy, but its always bloody and epic.

what ezio said, I've been known to get far into a story and lose hours of progress because of not saving all the time, I guess I've been spoiled from all the current generation games with their frequent autosaving and save/load states from emulation.

nothing is worse then grinding for awhile in an atlus rpg (Nocturne comes to mind), beating a boss, then walking in a weaker previous area, only to get your MC 1 hit KOed by a instant death spell, and having to go to the load game screen.

Had that happen to me recently. Bought Red Faction for $1 during the PSN since I liked Guerrilla and was interested in how the earlier games were. Very Valveish so I assumed every load screen was a checkpoint. After over an hour in I accidentally fell off a ledge to my death and found I had to start over.

Spend like 4 hours grinding and creating a very nice weapon and leveling it up. Weapon broke, didn't save. Never touched that game again.

Spend like 4 hours grinding and creating a very nice weapon and leveling it up. Weapon broke, didn't save. Never touched that game again.
True Dungeon Crawlers. You would hate Azure Dreams and The Guided Fate; Paradox.

Hows this for frustrating. Missing one stupid commsphere scene in ffx-2 and only realizing it when you are 98.8 percent complete at the end of your supposed 100% playthrough.
