FFXIII Main Character: Lightning

What are your views on Lightning? I like this idea of making a girl a main Character,it is kind of like what they did with FFX-2, except in this one Lightning is totally opposite from Yuna and most FF main girl Characters, shes no Froo Froo skirt wearing Girly Girl that thinks shes bad ass cause she shoots gun in a skirt >.>(not a HUGE fan of FFX-2)
No she is totally calm dosent think before she does anything and seems to be pretty straight forward and she does not beat around the bush.Oh and also shes pretty kick ass if i have to say so for myself and shes still a looker even though shes not girly!
I read on a web site they wanted to base her character off cloud, and i think they did a pretty good job if you think about it both are quiet and bad ass, and both dont think about doing something before they do it, they just do it.
I like Lightning but im not sold on the name yet.alsoo Lighting, Cloud just a coincidence?? I think not!

While Lightning has been potrayed as the main character and will most likely be the most significant character in the game, the developers have said that FF XIII will be similiar to FF VI where all the characters' stories are important and the main character isn't so clear.

I don't really care that she is female for that has nothing to do with the end result. In the end she could be a really bad developed character. I don't mind that she was based off of Cloud, the reason they have done this is for story purposed more so than the massive appeal towards Cloud. I do like her gunblade, probably the best version of the gunblade in the FF series, which means they somewhat borrowed from Squall even though his gunblade does not actually shoot bullets, instead it sends a shockwave when you pull the trigger.

Lightning's outfit is nice. It's not horrible and overall she looks good. I am eager to see her as a finished product.

She sort of reminds me of Ashe from FFX11, because Ashe also took no nonsense from anyone especially Vaan. That said I love what I have seen of this game.

At any rate, she isn't like Cloud. She has physical similarites, but nothing in her character makes me think 'Wow, that's something Cloud would say.' She's a merge of all the angsty Final Fantasy characters in the series. Omg she's got a gunblade, she's gotta be Squall!

Anyway, I'm about 40 hours into the game. I like her, but she was pretty lame at the start. Her haste in drawing her sword on Snow, punching Snow and punching Fang just made me think she was melodramatic. Her angst was just annoying and it didn't really seem believeable to me.

That and the fact that she actually doubted her Sister when she claimed she was a L'Cie. What kind of sibling does that? Lol.

I actually haven't found her to be very much like Cloud at all. Am I the only one that didn't even find Cloud all that depressing and angsty? I haven't watched Advent Children though, people have claimed that's where it comes from. The real angsty kid of the FF series is in my opinion Squall. But he's just hit puberty or something when the story's taking place, so you can't be too hard on him.

Anyway. My first impression of lightning was pretty much the same as my first impression on the game itself; man this is dynamic from the very beginning. She THROWS you into the game and action just like that. Then she just...I don't know. We've seen these kinds of characters before, and in general I think I actually feel more with the rest of the cast. But I haven't finished the game yet, so can't really give a final opinion on the matter.

I won't go in on any details, but I think Sazh is my favourite character, so far he's the one who's touched me emotionaly the most. And I really like Snow's character. Big showoff yes, but he makes up for it in heart.

i do admire lightning's strong personality... not just shooting guns and stuff... its her ability to overcome hard times, like...hers parents death. and how she have just decided to change her name and move on.

Lightning's past was troublesome for her, with her parents dying and stuff. At "the worst birthday ever" I think she was turning 21, which means when her parents died she must have been real young and forced to grow up fast, which is where her seriousness comes from. She then joined the military (which probably involved some sort of basic training to give her a soldier's mentality) and it was her job to deal with what Serah was to become. You can't really blame her for reacting negatively, although I think she did overdo it a bit with how she did negatively react. But it makes her seem more realistic to me, more human, because humans aren't perfect.

I admire the fact that she can pull herself out of tough situations and be so strong despite what has happened to her and her family.

Squall had no reason to be a bitch though, he just was. Lightning has very legit reasons for being one.

I honestly didn't think I'd even like Lightning to begin with, but after playing through just one chapter of the game, I changed my opinion of her. Though at some point she was a bit...annoying and hesitating/self-doubting. Still, I love her personality the other times, and when she punched Snow not once but twice in a row, she became my favorite character for those five seconds! 8D

But she does show signs of change in Chapter 6-7. She not only realizes what she's done to herself, but she also comes to realize everything she's done has had an affect on everyone around her. I like that, when they realize something that's been in front of them the whole time.

Lightning's getting better and better for me. I wonder how she'll turn out in the end.
