Do you use WALKTHROUGHS?

Do you guys ever buy/use the official walkthroughs?

I find them really good, but can spoil a first play through. After I finished X and X-2, I went and got the official walkthroughs to see what I missed out on.
I got the collectors one for XIII when it came out
If anything they are nice to have and have great artwork in them

My mum bought the FFVIII walkthrough with the game, but I never used it until late in the game. The game was pretty straight forward for me.

Nowadays, I just look everything up online. I am totally cheating on FFXIII though. Trying to set up my battle not knowing what the boss will be like is a bit hard for me. Especially when I don't like dying within the first 2 seconds of a battle.

Why would you buy something when you can get the same information for free online?

My Mom bought me a walkthrough for FFX-2,and I still never got a 100% lol :/ Anyways,I usually beat the game first on my own..and then on my second time playing, I usually just go online and look up a free online walkthrough :]

True all the info is online, but I'm sentimental and like collecting things. I like to have it all there officially presented, bound in a book. I'm the kind of person that would go apeshit if, say an FF cover was dirty, or dinted.

I do use online walkthroughs aswell. Just think the books are cool.

I had a few walkthroughs at one point, but I don't know where they disappeared to >.<

I tend to put the game in and start playing. Unless I get stuck somewhere, I usually don't look anything up until my second playthrough. When i do get stuck, I try to search for exactly what I need online, and see if there's a Yahoo answers link for it or a forum thread somewhere just for that issue.

I have a couple of player's guides. One for FF XII because seriously some of those sidequests can be real "guide dang it!" moments, and the other was for Crisis Core. Bought the guide for CC just on a whim and didn't really use it. Might do it soon though to see about getting some decent materia builds, because some of the late missions annihilate poor Zack.

Got both of those before I got access to the wonderful world of teh internet. Now, I just check out Gamefaqs or something if I need some hints. 5-starring the missions in FF XIII come to mind right now where gamefaqs is really a godsend.

the first time through the game i wont use a walkthrough unless its one of those "ive been at this for a few hours and still can't figure it out" moments. but on the next time around i'll use one to complete stuff i missed the first time around.

That's when I started to use my walkthrough. Then I played through it a few more times to get the full experience.

Sean, My way of collecting things is pressing the bookmark button and saving it for later. It's a good way of collecting things.

I first brought a Final Fantasy X one and was amazed at the artwork and pictures they give you in it, then I got X-2, Crisis Core, XII Collector Edition and XIII's collector's edition and well now it seems I'm collecting them, it's really not just the info but the artwork and background information they have in them as well. Plus (sorry to be girly) but they're pretty and look nice on the shelf.

I went bonkers at my sister though when she wrote is gay on the covor of ffx 4 years ago lol.

I bought the FFXIII official guide when I bought the game. Still in perfect condition.

I also bought the FFIX official guide off eBay when I first started playing it a year or two ago.

It's not that I really got them because I NEEDED them. I really just got them for fun, I guess. Just to collect them along with the games.

Can't say I ever owned an official guide let alone used it, but yea, those things are neat, if for nothing else than their artwork. As for regular walkthroughs, I avoid using them on my first playthrough except in extreme cases when I'm really stuck.

I never use a walkthrough for the first playthrough of a game, unless I spend hours trying to figure out what to do. Even then, I only look at the part I'm having trouble with and not anything further to avoid spoilers.

Second playthrough? That's when I have to get every secret. So walkthroughs help with that.

I have never owned an official guidebook/walkthrough. I just don't have the money, I barely have enough for the games I DO get. (I'm still a ps2 user, although recently upgraded handheld to PsP because DS Lite sucked)

I only use walkthroughs if I beat the game first. I try to buy the strategy guide for every game I own once I beat it.

The only times I've been stuck enough to use one were when playing through FFXII (pretty much the whole way until I got bored and stopped playing it altogether... remedying that soon...) and trying to beat Golgorand Execution Site in FF Tactics the first time around. That last one is effing child's play now, but when I first attempted it at 14, I couldn't friggin' do it. No matter what I tried.

Thanks for mentioning FFXII in this thread. It reminded me I should get the guide for it and I just did. Brand new for a total of $17 off eBay. Sweet.

Maybe the book will guide me through the Great Crystal because that place is HELL!

That's not really a rip off, considering the age of the game. I think that's a fair price for a FF guide. You would pay that for it new in a shop. It's a complete bargain if its the collectors..

Bradygames always have good ones and didn't final fantasy XIII collector's edition come with 1 ?

I usually tend to play through the game first and then utilise a guide after i've finished the main story (or if i get stuck).

FFI i think was the first time i ever had to use a guide during the story - i kept getting lost and didn't know where to go next

I use them to help me experience everything a game has to offer, despite taking away much of the challenge of some games. I like attempting to do all the side-quests of games I really like, and collecting a lot of stuff.

Playing blind through a few games right now, though, to sort of help me get more away from walkthroughs and learning how to find it all on my own through careful observation and exploration. I'm actually enjoying it quite a bit.

I use them but only when I really get lost. I used to do without them, but like if I can't kill a boss or there's a secret dunegon that I hear about or can't find. I use it, but only in descriton
