    I have a new all-time favorite song:

    0. Electronical Parade - Killer 7

This is the song that plays while you explore a children's theme park in Killer 7. For such a serious and dark game, this song is a ray of light. It nicely accompanies the fireworks and bright lights going off in the background, and conveys a really happy atmosphere. The song has such a magical melody to it (like the golden saucer from FFVII), and you really feel like dancing to it while you explore the amusement park.
That is until you find out that an assassin who owns the park is kidnapping children, harvesting their organs, and then selling them on the black market. Oh, and he rapes the girls he kidnaps.
After discovering that, listening to this song is akin to seeing Satan get a job as a birthday clown. It's really creepy, and manages to make that "M" rating stick out a whole lot more.

    int main () {
    printf("http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsqqtgxdKkY");
    return 0; }

Mine is a work in progress as I just realised I can't remember the names of half of the tracks I like. I shall keep editting mine as this thread goes along.

So far I only have 9 choices. I need one more, but I cannot narrow it down to just one. And I can't pick my FFIX track either. Stuck between:

    ~"Crossing Those Hills"
~"The Place I'll Return to Someday"
    ~"Vivi's Theme"
    ~"Black Mage Village"

    9. Sonic ~ "Green Hill Zone"
    Brilliant.

    8. Shining Force ~ ????
Mid battle when it switches to the actual screen where your character attacks.

    7. DOOM ~ "Main Theme"
    Legendary.

    6. Halo 2 ~ "Main Theme"
The track with Steve Vai on guitar, if there was ever a track that would make me go to war it would be this.

    5. Hitman II:Blood Money ~ "????"
I don't know the name of the track, but it has a choir in it from the beginning of the track.

    4. Vagrant story ~ "An Attic of the Great Cathedral"
When Sydney is found by Ashley with the Blood Sin tattoo gone from his back.

    3. Final Fantasy IX ~ "????"
    NOT DECIDED YET.

    2. Shadow of the Colossus ~ "The Opened Way"
You feel like you could kill anything whilst listening to this, so epic.

    1. Final Fantasy VII ~ "You can hear the Cry of the Planet"
The theme when you first walk into the City of the Ancients. When I am half asleep/thinking/writing/typing/need to calm down. Pretty much in any state I can listen to this track for hours and hours on repeat. Sublime.

...and those who are prideful and refuse to bow down shall be laid low and made unto dust.

Ok this is going to be a work in progress as there is heaps of video game music I like but the majority of it comes from Final Fantasy. I will probably update this in a year or so as I have been collecting a lot of game music recently but I do not have a huge amount yet. Only have 7 for now

    7) Mortal Kombat Trilogy ~ Scorpians Lair
Basicaly I downloaded the album out of boredom wondering if I would remember, unfortunately for being such and epic game there wasn't much that really caught me except this peice. It is quite dark and goes nicely with Scorpion.

    6) Sonic The Hedgehog ~ Staff Credits
One thing I remember about sonic was that it had great music, all of the music on there is good so its too hard to say any specific song so I say Staff Credits simply because it is a remix with all the songs in 1 peice. The album is quite small

    5) Ratchet & Clank ~ Gemlik Base (Un-availble )
It is quite Ironic this one, most of the music on here is average to weak, plus I don't really like techno that much. But this song has quite a techno'ish sound to it and I quite enjoyed it as I spent a lot of time here collecting bolts with my Gold Suck Cannon.

    4) Silent Hill 2 ~ Theme of Laura (It may be at the same site just under a differant name)
As soon as you listen to this you feel like there is a whole world unlike something you've experiance before is coming up. It is like a Dark Melody telling a tale of Darkness and Despair but at the same time it has a feeling their is going to be some form of release. Quite captivating if I do say so myself.

    3) Final Fantasy VII ~ For Those Who Fight Further/Still More Fighting
Quite a popular peice, for those who haven't heard it what the hell are you doing here? It is quite a catchy peice, has a nice metal sound but I prefer this than the Black Metal Version. Me and my friend just use to get to a boss just so we could put it on, cheesy yes but it was fun.

    2) Silent Hill ~ Not Tomorrow 1
There is just something about this peice that feels real eeire, I listened to the midi version ages ago and learnt how to play it on the acoustic guitar as it is quite easy. From the first time I heard it, it made the hair on my neck stand and when I saw what the scene that went with it I was quite astonished. A small simple peice but at the same time quite well done especially for the part it's played in.

    1) Final Fantasy 1 ~ Ruined Castle
From the very first time I heard this peice there was something truely magical about it, I think FF1 had one of the best OST's especially for its time. The whole game music is quite soothing to hear as you play through and doesn't put you off at all like some games do. Even though the game gets a lot of praise gameplay wise not much people mention the greatness of the music on it, all the peices are amazing from Gurgu Volcano to Matoya's cave. The reason I say this peice in particular is because it is something quite epic and dark, it is a rather simple piano melody but it is truely capitvating.

    Honourable Mentions:
Final Fantasy IX ~ Black Mage Village
Final Fantasy VII ~ One Winged Angel
Silent Hill ~ Silent Hill, Tears of Time

I will reiterate one final time: Posts which do not meet the specifications of this thread (or at least make valid attempts to meet them with 7-10 songs from different games) WILL BE DELETED ON SIGHT. This isn't "just another topic;" it's stickied for a reason. Put some thought into it. If you can't come up with a list, simply do not post. It's not that difficult.

If I could ask you to move the conversation into another thread, that would be greatly appreciated. Let's keep this thread for just the lists if we could, please.

I'm interested to hear those covers too, just for the record. Gaming Media would be the ideal forum for the topic, so it's not like you have to go too far out of your way to get there. *points up*

    10. Nobuo Uematsu - Battle With the Four Fiends (FFIV)

I remember being 6 when I first heard this song. This and the battle themes from FF: Mystic Quest were really what got me into metal. Sounds strange, doesn't it? Well, if you've heard any of these tracks, you know, especially for the time in which they were made, and the fact that they are from video games geared towards older children and teens, that it's some pretty heavy stuff. I've been banging my head since.

    9. Nobuo Uematsu - Suteki Da Ne (FFX)

This song is fucking beautiful. This, combined with the scene in which it plays, makes me cry like a bitch with a skinned knee every time it occurs. I'm a sucker for stuff like that, I readily admit it.

    8. Nobuo Uematsu - Those Who Fight Further (FFVII)

More metal from the FF universe. Right the hell on.

    7. Yasuhiro Kawakami & Ryuji Sasai - Battle (FFMQ)

This song rocks. The game may be an epic fail (I like it, though), but the music still kicks insurmountable amounts of ass.

    6. Yasuhiro Kawakami & Ryuji Sasai - Battle 2 (FFMQ)

IT'S SPLENBORG TIEM! WTF. Yeah, not much else to say other than this song rocks harder than #7 does.

    5. Yasunori Mitsuda - Battle (Xenosaga: Episode I)

Even though laziness prevailed and no boss theme was ever written for XSI, this song is awesome enough to make up for it. Also, note the lack of originality in song name titles. The more awesome they are, the less-named they are.

    5. The Cardigans - My Favourite Game (Gran Turismo 2)

Despite not being written FOR the game specifically, it still fit perfectly. Plus the Cardigans are a pretty sweet band in their own right.

    4. Chris Vrenna - Opening Theme (Doom 3)

Very Tool-esque. And I like it. Continuing the Awesomeness/Namelessness theory I've got going.

    3. No clue - Vigaku (Dead or Alive 2)

    Finally, a title!

    ...

But no composer that I'm aware of.

    2. Naoki - B4U (DDR)

Quintessential DDR song. Hard, heavy, fast, and danceable. Why I don't have more Bemani stuff on here is a mystery.

    1. Yuki Hajiura - Image Theme of Xenosaga II

Even though this game was another epic fail at least in comparison to the other 2 games, this song makes everything worth it. The chanting is well done, it's nice and techno-y, and it pwns. IT PWNS. FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST HOW DO I GE--

Yeah, I could listen to this song over and over again. It's very well done, especially considering the quality of the rest of the OST.

Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?

Well, this will be an epic "Holy Thread Revival!!!", but I noticed I hadn't placed my selections in here. Now, I have quite an obscure obsession with videogame music, specifically with battle music, and I look for rare and interesting mixtures of songs. I decided I would begin to make the list whenever I found at least 9, that is how intense is my passion to find rare and exciting songs, but the moment I write this, I believe I have found all 10. Now, I assume that the bulk of the songs are either too rare, weird, or obscure that people will probably not know about them, but I'd like to encourage people to hear them, and expand their horizons beyond Xenosaga or Final Fantasy (not that they have bad songs, but that they are the most popular). The only requisite to determine a song to be between my most favorites are two:

--Nostalgia: makes me remember an important part in the game

--"Loop-ability": if the song makes me hear it over, and over, and over, and over...well, you get the drift; it gets into my list.

So, without further ado, allow me to present the list of the favorite songs of mine:

10- Suprise Attack!! - Tales of Destiny - Motoi Sakuraba (Battle Theme): I have a deep respect for Sakuraba-san's work. I thought only that he (I think it is a he, correct me if I'm wrong) had produced songs for Tales of Destiny, but fate had slapped me in the face. Twice. In my search, I realized that he had produced the soundtracks of two games that I love: Valkyrie Profile, and Star Ocean: the Second Story. This song was the one that inspired me to search for my 10 favorites. It has lost a bit of it's nostalgia and loop-ability since, but I keep it within my top 10.

By the way, do not think the song is written wrong: the song actually HAS this grammatic error as the real song's name.

9- Out of Phase - Parasite Eve - Yoko Shimomura (Dungeon Theme): Another of my favorite composers, Shimomura-san seems to have a fetish with synthetizers, since most of her compositions rely heavily on them (oftentimes, it is the keyboard that wins in game music composition). This song is odd for a "dungeon theme" (which is weird, since Parasite Eve happens in the 20th century, but, for lack of a better term...) This theme is awfully relaxing, too good for yoga. The breaks between this peaceful theme and the move active "Urban Noise" contrast excellently, which keeps you in relative calm even when the "dungeon" has a near-impossible boss to beat if you don't level grind. Hence, the nostalgia. (I almost cried when I found the song...go figure) If you seek to find more of her work, hear a bit of Legend of Mana. The songs are quite impressive.

8- Overworld Theme #2 - Breath of Fire III - Akari Kaida and Yoshino Aoki (World Theme): Here's a refresher to most of the heroic or melancholic songs that plague RPG world themes: a bit of jazz. It has a bit of melancholy, but the sweet sound of jazz is forgiving enough. There are a few songs that I like that are world themes, like the world themes from Wild Arms (hooray for a world theme very similar to Ennio Morricone's 'The Ecstasy of Gold"), but this one get's the gold. In contrast to the childish first world theme, this one echoes of maturity, and of change. It really helps up set the theme for the game.

7- Scars of Time - Chrono Cross - Yasunori Mitsuda (Opening Theme): Mitsuda-san is perhaps one of the best composers out there, period. He was chosen for the Chrono dream team, he has composed for all Xenosaga games (and Xenogears), and his songs combine many different instruments. It was hard to choose from him (Dragon God and Death Sea ~ Tower of Enchantment are testament's to the difficulty of choosing a good theme to identify his talent, and let's not speak of Xenosaga's quality compositions), but I settled for the opening theme. Why? Simple: it is my favorite opening. Only a few earn my approval, such as the Wild Arms openings, and the lesser known opening to Kartia. This one, with it's mix of CGIs melded with a song that combines the classical violin with calypso earns a big thumbs up for me. Definitely.

6- Who am I? - Final Fantasy VII - Nobuo Uematsu (Incidental Theme): Caught you by surprise, right? It is easy to fall to Uematsu's charm. A long list of amazing songs, key themes, and other definitely astounding pieces of work. Surprisingly enough, this song comes from a game that, while I do not deny it's quality, it has earned it's bad rep from...rabid fans. Yep, FFVII is a good game, it has many winning features and an interesting boss, but sadly, fanboys have ruined this game. And earned the anger of old-school. Anyways, this particular piece of art is creepy. Really creepy. It really fits for the incident in which it is evoked: the serious mind problem that Cloud has. To be politically correct, it fits the occasions in which Cloud has to face the maelstrom in his mind, and it is the background theme for when Tifa seeks the answers deep within Cloud's mind. It is a twisted, distorted version of the Highwind theme (which, as you FFVII fans may know, it is the main theme of the entire game), played slowly, to evoke madness and despair.

If you noticed, I disregarded the spoiler tags. Why? The game has it's age, so any spoilers of the game are truly old news.

5- Landscape - Kartia: Ruins of Fate - Hidehito Aoki, Kenichi Tsuchiya and Masaki Kurokawa (Opening Theme): In my hunts for good RPG games that were not simply Final Fantasy, having enjoyed the awesome Final Fantasy Tactics, I stumbled upon a small little game that had similar treats, and an enticing story. What got me at first was the cover: the entire character illustrations were done by Yoshitaka Amano. When I rented the game, and placed it on my Playstation, I enjoyed one of the best Tactical RPG games people rarely know of. It also helped me enjoy the massive Suikoden, to which I am still a devoted fan (even though I have none of the games...I wish I had the second one...) The game had a simple, not so amazing opening cinema, with second-generation cinematics, and did not gave a good idea of what the game was about. But the song? Really amazing, although it was really short. Time later, I reminisced of the song, and found it. It has no weird mixtures, pretty much classic kind of music, but it has a part that stuck in me like no other. A short song that grows in the moment it is ending.

4- The Tragic Prince - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Michiru Yamane (Dungeon Theme): I have never been a real fan of Castlevania games. I must admit it. But, seeking good games to play, I decided I would give a chance to the PSX game Symphony of the Night. Surely, it would be different: there was no Belmont, thus no annoying whip to fight with. Also, the son of Dracula...sheesh, this must be good. I was happily enjoying my game, listening to the awesome music. I was overflowing with joy to see rock music was not forgotten within the classical themes of "Dance of Pales" and "Wood Carving Partitia", when I faced my first boss fight. "Festival of Servants" would become a favorite, I knew. Then...then I reached the Clock Tower. In that moment, I heard how an organ and classical music gave way to rock, and how I reached a key moment in nostalgia. I was desperate to find the song. It was etched within my mind, replaying it. Then, by instances of life, I found it. Truly, truly amazing. It makes the Clock Tower enjoyable. I eventually found the soundtrack, and since then, I must add this one to the list of my ten faves. One curious note: I had lost a bunch of my favorite music a time ago. Only one CD remained with me, strangely because I was using it to awaken in the mornings. Yes, it was the Castlevania soundtrack.

3- Passionate Rhythm - Romancing Saga: Minstrel Song - Tsuyoshi Sekito (arrange), Kenji Ito (composer) (Boss Battle Theme): Ah, Ito-san. His compositions are legendary, or so one of my friends say. Truly epic. While I have tried to introduce him to the other group of epic composers (Mitsuda, Sakuraba, Shimomura, Uematsu), he remains an ardent fan of Saga Frontier music. I must admit, his compositions have all of the quality that these former composers deserve. When I bought, at last, the Romancing Saga game (which I was hunting for quite a while), I was reaffirmed of Ito-san's excellent work. I was amazed that many of the game songs had electric guitar. Then, it struck me: an amazing boss battle song, that had little to no synthetizer, no electric guitar, no bass...just battery, acoustic guitar, and vocals. It was truly a surprise to find a boss song done Flamenco style, evoking the spirit of Spain. Shocked I was to find Tsuyoshi Sekito within the arranges, doing all of the guitar work apparently. If you haven't realized who he is, quite a shame...he is one of the Black Mages. You know, those who rearrange the FF themes into metal? Yeah, that one. Indeed, a match made in heaven.

2- Running Shadow - Ragnarok Battle Offline - Composer Unknown (Boss Battle Theme): Ok, this is a song from a rarely known game. No, it is not on PS2, PSX, it is not on any console. It is a doujin game. If you don't know, doujin games are games made by fans, and often result in amazingly good games. Sadly, most of them are in Japanese, but let that not stop you. Proof of this is that I added, to the list of my ten favorite videogame songs, a doujin game song. The game really has that good music, especially boss battles (by the way, this is not an RPG, but a beat'em up...I was craving for a good one, and I play RO, so...) The first boss song was awesome (Happy Blue Rabbit), then the second one, then the one after that... Two songs caught my attention: the boss battle with a kitsune (Mischievous Fox Child's Reckless Run), and with a giant fish (Messenger from the Deep Sea). But...when I reached the game's version of Geffen Dungeon (to all those RO fans, you probably know already who's the boss), I was baffled. It was not merely rock. It was almost metal the song I heard. And it was the boss theme song of one of the most dreaded RO MVPs (for all of you FFXI fans, think of it as one of those pesky bosses you fight, but as hard to hunt as an NCBM...is it said like that?) of all time. Myself (well...it's actually a black-pallette copy of the Swordsman-Male sprite, collectively known as the Doppleganger) Yep, a running black pallette version of one of the player choices (it is fixed, though, so no other pallette swap choices...): a "running shadow". And it has one of the best songs ever. I tell you, if you get the chance to d/l the game, and the patch made for it in English, go for it. It's worth a try.

1- Dark Knight - Super Robot Taisen: Original Generations - Composer Unknown (Character Theme): Well, I said in no particular order, but I think I lied. This is my definite favorite song so far. Super Robot Taisen, if you know little about it, is a game that mixes and matches mechas from many different series, such as Mazinger, Getter Robo, Gundam, etc. It also has unique mechas designed by some of the most prominent mecha artists, and unique, colorful characters. But...stealing the show is the amazing soundtrack. With songs like "Steel Beowulf", "Platinum Lucifer", "Dark Prison", "Marionette Messiah", and "The Gate of Magus" (and the legendary "Trombe!!!", which eats all other songs, even boss battle songs). But...definitely, the song I like the most of the entire series is given to one of the coolest characters ever. It is really an inspiring song, a song that boils your blood and makes you drool as the character (sadly an enemy in that game, but formerly a PC) makes one of those eye-popping impossible moves that make mechas explode, while listening to the pilot screaming in excitement, anger...a veritable mix of emotions. No wonder the game is a massive hit in Japan, and it has gained enough popularity in America to make Atlus, the leader in importing rare and eventually expensive games, to bring here the GBA versions of the exclusively original games here. Which led me to buy them, and to hear the wonderful soundtrack.

So, I believe this is the entire list. I enjoy the idea of making them 10, since real favorites within the sea of awesome songs out there would definitely make the list. I know that many songs couldn't make the cut, but I'm fine with it. If this short list makes people listen to the music, and enjoy the games and the soundtracks, I feel like I have done my job right.

    Top Eleven

Well, I do love me some good VG music! Here is Dodie's top 11:

Why top eleven? Because I'm a fan of the Nostalgia Critic, and he likes to take things one step further.

    11.) Onett Theme-Earthbound

YouTube - Onett Theme: Earthbound Music

Yes, Earthbound is a favorite classic of mine in the days of the ol' Super NES, which was probably my favorite game system ever. I love this particular track because Onett is my favorite town.

10.) Beware the Forest's Mushrooms- Super Mario RPG: TLOTSS

YouTube - SM RPG: Beware the Forest Mushrooms

A great song by a great composer, Yoko Shimomura. This song probably sticks out the most for me in TLOTSS, because it is just so darn catchy!

    9.) Flower Garden- Yoshi's Island

YouTube - Yoshi's Island Music - Flower Garden

My favorite song on Yoshi's Island for the SNES. It was hard to pick just one that was good, because all the music is really good in that game.

8.) Ocean- The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker

YouTube - Wind Waker: Ocean Theme

Windwaker on the Gamecube is my favorite Zelda game. I know a lot of people that didn't like it because it looked "cartoonish". But I think that was part of the charm! Also, we got a new Overworld theme, which to be honest, it was about time that we did!

7.) Gusty Gardens Galaxy- Super Mario Galaxy

YouTube - Super Mario Galaxy Music: Gusty Garden Galaxy

I love VG music when it is orchestrated, and Super Mario Galaxy's soundtrack is one soundtrack that is perfectly suited for me!

    6.) Dearly Beloved- Kingdom Hearts

YouTube - ? KINGDOM HEARTS II - Dearly Beloved

I think Dearly Beloved is to Kingdom Hearts like the Prelude is to Final Fantasy. It has shown up so far in every installment of the game, and on the title screen no less! I do like every version that has come out, but I think my favorite would be the KH2 version.

5.) Snake Eater- Metal Gear Solid 3

    YouTube - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Song - Intro - PS2

MGS 3 was my introduction to the series, and boy what an intro it was! This theme kind of reminds me of some James Bond movies that my dad used to watch.

4.) Shinra Inc.- Final Fantasy VII

    YouTube - Shinra Inc Theme

Even if you don't care for FFVII, you gotta admit that this theme is pretty cool! I mean, it evokes a certain power, which I guess is the point, given that Shinra is basically in control of the entire world.

3.) Maria and Draco - Final Fantasy VI

YouTube - Tour de Japon - Opera "Maria and Draco" (Part B)

The Opera in FFVI. Okay, this may come as a shock to some, but I haven't actually got to play FFVI. I do, however, own the Distant Worlds CD, and the entire opera is on my iPod. I chose part B for the list because it is my favorite part.

2.) A Great Spirit Lies in Wait- Okami

YouTube - Okami Soundtrack - A Great Spirit Lies in Wait

Oh, come on! What? Did you think that I wasn't going to mention Okami? LOL! Actually, Okami has some of the best music for a VG in my opinion, and it was really hard to pick just one. But I had to, so I chose the theme that you hear before encountering the Geisha Spider (aka the Spider Queen).

1.) The Opened Way- Shadow of the Colossus

YouTube - Shadow Of The Colossus Soundtrack - The Opened Way (1)

Quite possibly the most epic theme I have ever heard! The rush of adreneline that I get everytime I hear this is just amazing. This song is so perfect. Koh Ohtani did an outstanding job composing the entire soundtrack, but this theme has got to be hands-down the greatest of them all.

Well, that's my list. I hope that you enjoyed it!

10.To Zanarkand (FFX) - I like this song because the emotion that is put into this song brings back the sad moments of TFF for me and makes me feel sad and ii just think its so beautifully played.

9.Tetris Theme Song (Tetris) - Its just so happy its unbeleivable it makes you want to do a jig across the room and a lot of the time i do

    8. The Opened Way (Shadow Of the Colossus) - I chose this when i saw Dodie16's post because it reminded me of the many many many many hours i spent on this game and me and my horse pimpin to this music.

7.Fly Routine (Dead Rising) - it has been a while since i have found a game (other than dynasty warriors) with some awesome metal music as its theme and this song is perfect for Dead Rising because it makes me violent and pumped making me want to slaughter the zombies. For those who don't know its during the supermarket fight with Steven.

6.Mihen Road (FFX) - Whenever this comes on in itunes i always turn the volume up because its a song you can bounce to, in fact i am often jumping around, it also reminds me of the many hours i spent and am still spending trying to catch every monster x)

5.Still Alive (Portal) - Its just great The cake is a lie but my companion cube inst!

4.Blow Me Away - Breaking Benjamin (Halo 2) - This song is played in the last bit of high charity when you have that huge brawl with a load of hunters and the sudden change form the classical/ambient music you usually get and when this kicks in is insane, you feel like a ninja and slaughtering everything.

3.All of the Dynasty Warriors Music (DW series) - Take any Dw warriors song especially the newer ones and you will find it exhillarating or full of emotion and quiet possibly both.

2.The Halo Theme Mjlonir mix or normal it doesn't matter (Halo Series) - This is by far the best song for needing to be hyped up and feel like a god which master cheif is!

1.Metal Gear Solid Theme (MGS series) - No matter what everyone says the fist MGS was the bets game ever created, the storyline was so intriguing and sucked you in, the gameplay was something nothing had ever done before and the characters, well you had the badass mofos Snake, Liquid and Grey Fox and then the hotness that is Meryl. This song reminds me of all of that, MGS was the first game i ever shed a tear too and the music reminds me of all of that.
