    Bodies the Exhibition

This is a given that this art is not by me but it is a very controversial topic and still is considered art by many people.

First off if you are unaware of what "Bodies the Exhibition" is; it is "an intimate and informative view into the human body".

To put it bluntly, it is a break down of the human anatomy and has been showcased across the USA.

There is a mixed variety of opinions of this display of human anatomy. Some people see the pure beauty in it while others see it as a morbid desecration of the human body.

Over all the exhibit is to be an educational venue into the world of the human body.

So I am curious as to what your opinions are on this off the wall kind of art and your over all thoughts on "Bodies the Exhibition".

Disclaimer: The following link is not for the weak of heart or those that have a weak stomach seeing it is indeed dealing with real deceased bodies.

    BODIES...The Exhibition

I will post my thoughts and feelings of it later.

:edit: this might of needed to go into Gen Chat or ID but then again it is art so I figured it should go here.

    Re: Bodies the Exhibition

I wanted to go to that so badly, but it cost a ****ton for a family of five to go, and my siblings didn't really want to see the corpses.
I don't see anything wrong with it, it's not like they graverobbed. The exhibits must've volunteered so this shouldn't have any controversy involved, just a great entertaining way to learn some anatomy lol
However, I sense the Westboro Baptist Church brewing up ideas should the exhibit go near them....

Well part of it is in Tulsa right now and Westboro protests in the surrounding areas against soldiers so I imagine that it is quite possible that it might happen in Tulsa.

The exhibits are volunteers indeed but thats not the reason people are upset with it. There are some people that see it as desecration of the human body which in some peoples eyes is a big no no and then to put it out on display for all to see.

Personally I like the idea, it is a great way for people to set a ggood idea of how we as humans function on a daily basis. Shows that there is a lot more to it then we generally think of.

    Re: Bodies the Exhibition

I think it is a great way to teach people about the body. It is also a very creative method of teaching.
Anatomy is something I think everyone should know about I feel that it should be required criteria instead of stupid "biology" (did any of us learn anything in that class?).
I often wonder why people seem so afrade of human insides, everyones got them. everytime you hug someone theres a bunchof them pressing against you. Just Idiocy.

The bodies displayed were donated, the people knew where they would be going and wanted to be displayed.

It doesnt suprise me that there are protests, I know how people are in this region (I live in Oklahoma too, Moore).

I wonder if this exhibition is produced by Gunther Von Hagens also?
I went to Gunther Von Hagens' exhibition in Liverpool "Bodyworlds" around 4-5 years ago. I think this is similar to what you guys saw.

I'm really fascinated with the plastination process that Von Hagens uses and seeing bodies first-hand with illnesses and animals was truly amazing. There were some really
good parts of the exhibition, and I can see why some would find it controversial.

The fetus room was rather one part, viewing fetuses from every week up to the week they are delivered. Coming from the uk abortions can legally be performed from 24-28 weeks, and viewing what a baby looks like then, was quite sad. Was really interesting to see first-hand what bodies actually look like though, how things like smoking damage our bodies for example, the exhibition was very much worth the money!

Von hagens used to have a live autopsy programme late night on TV, also interesting but not for the light-hearted!

Funnily enough there was controversy in Von Hagen's donated bodies in an article I read, which stated the company that he was associated with had taken bodies illegaly for small prices from dodgy mortuaries. Here is the article.
