MetallicA vs. Megadeth!

Actual Forum! We know the story, upon getting a huge deal, Metallica booted Dave Mustaine for alcohol problems, no? I dono. kinda hypocritical if so.
Anyway, out of his rage, Megadeth was spawned! Now, who's better? The Original, or The Spawn?

Metallica. I find them more versatile. I do like Megadeth alot. But so much of what they have is double picking. I'm not calling it easy, their music is more complicated than Metallica. But Metallica has a better variety of sound, that they've done more with over time. They knew doing the same routine gets old so they mixed it up. Not that it's all as good as they used to but keeping fresh ideas will always keep them respectable. Megadeth has obviously changed to an extent over the years. Go from Peace Sells to Risk. It's just felt more like running out of ideas instead or tired of being angry than pushing the envelope of what you can do musically.

When Metallica fired Dave Mustaine, they lost a great songwriter, but they still had Cliff Burton. Unfortunately for Metallica, Cliff died, and that left the band without a main songwriter, so they decided to dumb their music down, because they figured money and fame was more important than being true to their fans. Since 1988, every single album, with the exception of their newest, has been progressively worse than the last, yet somehow each one has been more successful than anything that Megadeth has done.

Megadeth has one bad album. They took a risk selling out with Risk, and it didn't pay off. Other than that, they have been consistent, and the albums, instead of getting progressively worse, have gotten progressively better.

Metallica's Black Album doesn't compare to Megadeth's Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction. Metallica's Load and Reload does not compare to Megadeth's Cryptic Writings. Metallica's St. Anger does not compare to Megadeth's The System Has Failed, and Death Magnetic, although great in itself, in no way compares to Endgame.

Metallica will always be more popular, but Megadeth will always be better.

METALLICA METALLICA METALLICA!! Sorry, I'm a bit of a Metalliwhore xD Megadeth's songs just don't engage me as much as Metallica's do (Although I do admit 'St. Anger' isn't very good). I know Metallica are more popular as well but I really do think they're awesome.

Megadeth all the way. Mustaine is a much better songwriter than Hetfield and Ulrich combined and album for album, Megadeth are far superior, for example just compare "Death Magnetic" to "Endgame" and you will hear a difference in songwriting as well as musicianship. Megadeth have had at least three lead guitarists who were far superior to Hammett( Friedman, Broderick and Poland) at one time or another and while Metallica are spewing dumbed down bullsh*it since Burton died like Clint Eastwood said, Megadeth are always evolving. Hey they may not be mainstream but what Megadeth fan wants them to be? (Plus Mustaine actually has a ****ing personality unlike the ****tards in Metallica).

Megadeth win everytime. While I love Metallica, I think their last two albums are awful. Megadeth, however, has stayed consistant with their albums. 'Endgame' is amongst my favourite albums ever. When bands say that they are going back to their classic sound (like Metallica did, but failed), Megadeth are the only ones that have done so. 'Rust In Peace', easily my favourite album of all time. You won't hear a better metal song than 'Holy Wars...' in my opinion.
Megadeth's lyrics are better than Metallica's. Granted, Metallica's early lyrics were good (from 'Ride The Lightning' through to 'And Justice for All'), but Mustaine writes fantastic songs all the time.

So yeah, Megadeth.

I went with Metallica, but I haven't heard any newer albums from either band so my opinion likely won't carry much weight. As far as the older stuff goes, some of Metallica's music is timeless.

Definitely Metallica. If we go by newer stuff then Megadeth takes the cake. But Metallica's older stuff destroys all of Megadeth's new stuff. Such timeless hits..

I am honestly shocked that there are not more Metallica fans posting in here, thank god for that. To me Metallica has been played out for a VERY long time. I can't stand but a handful of their older music and the newer stuff is just plain crap. Their newer stuff seems to be more about the money instead of about the music.

Megadeth on the other hand has always kicked ass and still kicks ass. They are one of the few bands that I get giddy about when a new album comes out. They never seem to disappoint.

I wish that Megadeth would get more radio time here, Metallica seems to still take up alot of the airwaves and due to this I find myself scrolling the other stations here in town just to avoid them.
