From that list I would personally choose Disposable heroes but out of their whole back catalogue my favourite song is Ride the Lightning. I prefer the thrash metal Metallica era.
Fade To Black
Master of Puppets
Cyanide
Disposable Heroes
Battery
One
St.Anger
Holier Than Thou
My personal favorite is Fade To Black, what is everyone else favorite Metallica song..I understand my poll is short but there is so many awesome songs and I had to limit myself, feel free to post a favorite that is not on the list above..

Out of all those, I would say Battery. However, my actual favourite is Escape or Orion. Anything off of Ride The Lightning or Master Of Puppets really. One a side note, you should have some Kill Em All up there on the poll.
Out of the ones given, I can't decide between Fade to Black and Disposable Heroes. As for my actual favorite metallica songs? Fuel, The Memory Remains, No Leaf Clover, their cover of Turn the Page, Nothing Else Matters, and most importantly Until It Sleeps.
(TFF Family):
I'm confused why you bothered to make a poll for this.
Off of your tiny list, I would choose either Fade to Black or One, depending on my mood. Overall, however, I'd choose...you know what, I don't think I could choose. For Whom the Bell Tolls, Dyers Eve, The Unforgiven, Low Man's Lyric, etc., etc. I don't think I could choose a favourite.
Until now!
I couldn't choose a favorite, either, but it'd definitely be in the Older Metallica list of songs.
Enter Sandman, Wherever I May Roam, The Unforgiven, The Memory Remains, they're all great songs.

The single achieved gold certification for more than 500,000 copies shipped in the United States, spurring sales of over 15 million copies for Metallica and propelling Metallica to worldwide popularity. Acclaimed by critics, the song is featured in all of Metallica's live albums and DVDs released after 1991 and has been played live at award ceremonies and benefit concerts.

A poll for this questions was a bad decision seeing as how there is so many awesome songs and not everyone will like whats on the poll...Ignore the poll and just post your favorite song...
Well Of your list I like Master of puppets, but whats not on your list is my favorite called Ride The Lightning
Got to be ONE for me, the beginning in so clam and relaxed nothing like the end of the song lol

I Think You Anime/Manga Fans would really like it!!
On your list it's Master of Puppets, but my all time favorite are the Unforgiven series, part 2 being the best.
out of the choices, i picked one, but my fav is either whisky in the jar or enter sandman
My favorite is For Whom the Bell Tolls, but out of the List it's either Battery or One
My favorite is All Nightmare Long.
I voted for Holier Than Thou though, because it's the first song I ever heard by Metallica and it's rawesome.
St. Anger up on that list is a joke, right?
My favorite is For Whom the Bell Tolls, but out of the songs listed above, the best in my opinion is Fade to Black. Everything off of Ride the Lightning is far superior to anything else that Metallica has ever done.
I am partial to All Nightmare Long, off of their new album. It has a catchy chorus, and it sounds like something straight off of And Justice For All. I guess I'm just proud of Metallica for un-selling out.
I agree with All nightmare long, one of my fav metallica songs. But I voted Master of Puppets. I love it a bit more lol
Do you think they sound like Metallica or Megadeth? Also, of the two solos in this song, which is your favorite and why?
Battery is my favorite. I love the transition from the quiet, medolic guitar into the gruff main riff. The whole song itself is brilliant. I also love Master of Puppets, One, No Leaf Clover, The Memory Remains and Enter Sandman. Metallica are just great... or were... like a lot of Metallica fans i've found their recent efforts to be very disappointing. They do have a lot of great songs under their belts.

Fade to Black for me as well. FUn to play, great to listen to, and that outro is like instrumental sex in my ears.
Unforgiven, Unforgiven II as close seconds.

Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Blessed is the Madgod, who tricks us when we are foolish, punishes us when we are wrong, tortures us when we are unmindful, and loves us in our imperfection.
Famous songs - One and Battery. Master of Puppets is nice, but not close to these two. Battery I believe is the defining concept of what Metallica is (or was, depending on your taste); high-octane thrash metal. One, on the other hand, is really weird since it starts slow but once you get to the ending parts, the entire song changes.
Non-famous songs - Disposable Heroes. Did I mention I really, really like the Master of Puppets LP? Close seconds are Creeping Death and ...And Justice for All (which technically should be famous, but somehow it isn't)
Covers - Die, Die my Darling! Nothing against the Misfits, but I tend to loop Metallica's version. Short, straight to the point, and with a faster riff than the original version. Still, don't want to awaken a monster as to which version is better; the fact that if the original version was so bad, it wouldn't have been popular or obscure or interesting enough to be covered would be a point to consider. Not to mention: Misfits, dude!

Day that Never Comes was actually one of my favorites. I didn't like that one much at first, but it grew on me.

Out of the tiny list 'One' was my favorite, but 'Sanitarium' and 'Nothing Else Matters' are some of my favorite songs

The S&M version of most any song was amazing lol.

Their best song is easily No Leaf Clover from S&M. Sucks there's only one version you can find of the song but I do find it perfect. It's one of the few songs that really shows James can sing, and still carry a solid melody, with a nasty solo. Not just the gutteral Yeaaaaaaah!!!!
Even though I love that too.

Original Metallica: No Remorse, Ride the Lightning, Creeping Death, Battery, Disposable Heroes, Blackened, ...And Justice for All, Harvester of Sorrow, Holier Than Thou, The Struggle Within. A LOT of others.
Covers: Stone Cold Crazy, So What, Last Caress, Astronomy, Whiskey in the Jar, Mercyful Fate, Killing Time, and so on.
I don't think Metallica has made any BAD songs, except the WHOLE St. Anger Album!
All Nightmare Long and Cyanide
I voted mastar of teh puppets for practicality lol
