    Dream Theater, anyone?

Does anyone on this forums like the band Dream Theater?

Dream Theater is a progressive metal band, fronted by James LaBrie, and they are one of the most amazing bands out there. They've been rockin' since the late eighties, and as an old thread basically stating, they are still going strong with their latest album Systematic Chaos. One of the guitarists, John Petrucci, is considered one of the best of the best.

Anyone have any thoughts on this band? Favorite song, album, etc?

I personally LOVE the songs Home, Finally Free, and Forsaken. Home is absolutely beautiful, though parts of it are reminiscient of Tool's 46 and 2.
Finally Free has amazing drum work from Portnoy (the band's drummer) and Forsaken is also pretty cool.

God, i love this band, i saw them October 2007 in Glasgow and it was the best concert i have ever been to. Honest to god, they sound EXACTLY like thye do on the albums!!

John Petrucci is amazing live, sometimes he just goes into these incredible solos that take your breath away (even if they're not in the song they are playing). Portnoy's simply incredible on the drums, the damn thing must have taken up half of his body and he plays with such energy and enthusiasm.....

The best thing is that they really try to make you feel part of the entire concert and give you as good an experience as possible. If you can, i really recommend you see them.

Metropolis Pt2 was a fantastic Album, one of the best i have ever brought, it told a story rather than just a mishmash of songs. "Finally Free" was an amazing song i thought and really thought it summed up the whole album for me.

Album wise i have... Octavarium (the entire album was so brilliantly thought through), Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (Not bad, but not as good as the others), Metropolis Pt2 (one of the best albums ever), and Systematic Chaos (this gets played loudly in the car alot).

My favorite song is Octavarium, it's just so clever in execution.

Hell yea man, a couple of years back I used to jam to Systematic Chaos, and it was a damn good CD. Other then that I haven't heard any other of their CD's (Maybe I will go check them out on YouTube later)

Edit: My favorite song was Forsaken on Systematic Chaos

    Re: Dream Theater, anyone?

I know of Dream Theater, but haven't taken the time to hear their newest stuff. The only album I actually managed to hear (and have, to an extent) is Awake, which IIRC is its second album.

I like from that album the first two (6:00 and Caught in a Web), the first part of their composite instrumental song (Erotomania; the other two are Voices and The Silent Man) and Lifting Shadows of a Dream (when I want to chill out).

Oh, and then there's Pretender, but that's not from Dream Theater but from a separate album from LaBrie. The change in the voice is pretty notable, though he still speaks in a hard to understand accent.

You're lucky. I was going to go to that, but ran into some money issues.

So, yeah, I like Dream Theater. The band has some amazing songs, and they're incredibly talented. My favourite album's probably Octavarium.

they're freakin amazing. i got 'octavarium' a few years ago cause it was recommended by a random guy in the music section of best buy (not someone who worked there). i was in need of some new albums, some guy asked what kind of music i was into, and he suggested anything by them.
i still haven't picked up any of their other albums yet though

    Re: Dream Theater, anyone?

I used to call them my favorite band, until I noticed that I don't really LOVE them, but just LIKE them.
Nevertheless, they're without a doubt one of the best bands I've ever listened to.
At the beginning I didn't like all the computer stuff in their songs, but I've gotten pretty used to it. (And I don't hear that anymore, to be honest. ^^")

Favorite songs... I don't think I have one. I like the whole "Metropolis Pt. 2" album best. <3

And I also like most of the new songs. I especially like "The Count of Tuscany", though the story is pretty... weird. Oo"

Octavarium was my favorite album of them. Panic Attack is an amazing song! I've heard great things about their concerts too, they always seem to play at a stellar level in front of a large audience.

I also like how each album seems to go into a different style or theme, and not in like a gay "Oh I'm trying to find myself by doing something new" way, more like a "Hell yeah I kick ass in so many ways check this out" way. If that makes any sense..?

    Re: Dream Theater, anyone?

I love Dream Theater. I got into them because of Images & Words, which is their best in my opinion. I really liked Black Clouds & Silver Linings, but some of the songs were a bit too long.

John Petrucci is one of my favourite guitarists ever. He is just so awesome to watch. And his guitars are always really nice
