^I heard like a few seconds of that and then my pc crapped out.

I was running an old compuer at the time, with dial-up in fact, and it was on a website and just froze...

Sad ducky.

You like Demon's and Wizards, correct?

Have you listened to Katatonia? Some of their songs remind me of Demons and Wizards. Good stuff! "Heavier" it would seem, though...

I just wanna say \m/ to that... Before I post.

First off, I like alot of different types of metal to be honest, mainly due to my past musical taste and build-up to the pissed-up, stoned ****head I am today.

The roots of my musical taste (you gotta go back to the roots people) were bands like-

Slipknot- Not keen on them anymore
Still Remains- Meh, a few songs are ok, I mainly like the guitaring.
Opeth- A horrible death like hatred hangs over my head now, I just cant seem to like them anymore.
Rammstein- Meh, they still kinda rock, I enjoy their concerts and thats enough.

That type of music, and before that I was a softcore/punk rock fan-

Linkin Park- Purest of pure shite
Blink 182- I still like em, kinda.
Misfits- Nah, I cant listen to em.

Now, Im into more stuff like-

Acerbus
Damien Thorne
Morbid angel

Dont get me wrong, this isnt the only music I listen too, I have a fairly open musical taste actually, I just prefer things with good beats and guitaring (but not Dragonforce, god I ****in hate them).

So... yea Punk and Metal and P-Rock and stuff... I listen to it all... I just happen to prefer heavier stuff... =/ And I have quite a range of that...

Later ****ers.

^Dragonforce has like, one god song, and I can't even remember the name of it.

</sad chipmunk>

Rai, you should check our Chimaira. They've got some catchy beats. Best of their tracks:

Forced Life.
Power Trip.
Dead Inside.

Just some suggestions, but they have a good sound!

I tell you why I hate them, their songs all have the line 'Reach for the day' in the chorus and they all sound the same, sure the guitar solo's are impressive, but they go on for like 400 years, which makes em shit.

Cheers, I'll check em out, go download some or somthing, though my sister has the laptop and our desk-top is somthing lacking in the speed department, due to it being chisled from stone and the wires whittled from wood back in the dark ages... ¬_¬, stupid piece of ****in crap.

Anywho, is anyone going to any gigs soon?

EDIT: Some other bands I like... Just to give an Idea.

All Shall Perish, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, As Blood Runs Black, As I Lay Dying, Born From Pain, Caliban, Cannibal Corpse, Cult Of Luna, Devildriver, Diecast, Debauchery, Deicide, Ektomorf, Fear Factory, Hatebreed, Himsa, In Flames, It Dies Today, Kataklysm, Killswitch Engage, Kreator, Katatonia, Lamb Of God, Legion Of The Damned, Machine Head, Manifested, Nailed, Pantera, Parkway Drive, Sepultura, She Killed Poetry, Six Feet Under, Slayer, Stampin' Ground, Supercharger, Sworn Enemy, Terror, The Agony Scene, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Haunted, Through The Eyes Of The Dead,

I started with Opeth, in particular the song Black Rose Immortal, however I rarely listen to them any more though there is a new album in the works. Never got into Katatonia however they seem ok.

Dragonforce tries too hard as with most powermetal, however I quite like Demons & Wizards as well as Blind Guardian however I have not listened to much Iced Earth to really comment on them.

Some people have said the same for Megadeth. Similar lyrics in each of their songs and four-hundred year guitar solos. Although some Megadeth is still fairly good shit....... they own Dragonforce, in any case.

Dude, I feel your pain. I had dial-up and a Windows 98' at the same time once before. Luckily, I try to steer clear downloading and buy or receive.

As for gigs... Nah. I'm not a gig-going type of girl. I prefer sitting in at home and listening to my music with one hand on my keyboard and the other clutching a tin of Pepsi.

Demons and Wizards is the best of the entire genre, in my opinion. Blind Guardian follow closely behind, since their insanely similar, what with having the same vocalist. And Iced Earth are good but they get boring very easily.

The best Iced Earth song ramins "Watching Over Me". It reminds me of a friend of mine.

Man I don't mean to seem like an elitist jackass, but D: YOU have got to go listen to The Lord Weird Slough Feg, Winters Bane, Grave Digger, and Kamelot before calling Demons and Wizards the best of power metal.

Slough Feg rules, and manages to mix in elements of heavy metal, doom metal, and occasionally folk. Fuckin' great band.

Winter's Bane, good ol' American riff-fest with the fantastic Tim Owens on vocals.

Grave Digger, same idea as Winter's Bane but crunchier riffs and German, and without Tim Owens.

Kamelot, uh Stratovarius - the suck + awesomeness + Prog. elements on most recent album =

The rest, I either haven't heard, or don't enjoy.

Heimdall, I've heard Kamelot and I like them a lot. Demons and Wizards just seems... different. My taste is strange enough, so it's likely there will be disagreements between me and pretty much most people I know.

Heimdall - Slough Feg is great, however I have only heard Down Among Deadmen but I think I will go grab the others now.

But when it comes to the Power stuff I prefer the Viking'ish mixed stuff, Einherjer is ok but it is kind of plain. Falkenbach is awesome, Stormlord is great Italian Blackish/Power Metal. Otyg is pretty good especially if you like Vintersorg, same with Isengard/Storm if you like Darkthrone and Wongraven if you like Satyricon. Suidakra is definately A+++ and worth checking out as well, Emprise to Avalon is truly magnificent.

Demons & Wizards are a mighty good listen in my humble opinion, as are Iced Earth, Blind Guardian and Kamelot. I'm quite the fan of power metal, or rather, I used to be, but I found outside a select few, they were very generic and similar sounding. DragonForce is a prime example of this and don't even get me started on Hammerfall. I started on Gamma Ray and Helloween and still regularily listen to the former, but lately I've gotten into music with a more gothic hint to it, or at least I think it's a gothic hint; I've never been able to properly label what music is gothic and what isn't. Anyways, I find that Demons & Wizards and Iced Earth (making the first named band almost pointless to say) have this gothic element, or whatever it is, that I've grown to love, well some of their songs anyways, as I'd hardly call songs like "Burning Times" gothic, more like one of the worst Iced Earth songs ever recorded. Anyways. Yup. That's about as far into metal as I come these days, with the odd exception...and Trogdor.

Until now!

i just recently got into amon amarth. ****ing viking gods. their front man's growl is so goddamn pleasing - and unlike a lot of whatever sub-sub-divided genre metal with similar growling, whether it be demonic or viking - you can actually understand most of what he is saying. the title track for 'the fate of norns' is particularly stunning. a viking burning himself and his dead son, calling for Oden from within the flames... gives me chills. the only album i have is the fate of norns - any of you metal heads know if it gets any better for this band? most of the time when i buy another album by a band blindly i tend to choose the worst one.

i just fucking love this viking shit - norse mythology ftw!

Hail Odin!

I am the Viking Metal expert among the BoD, Bathory whilst some albums are also Black are the true Pioneers of Viking Metal, Hammerheart is an Epic Masterpiece, Blood Fire Death is also legendary however the lyrics are growled so I dunno if you will get into that album but it is very good.

Best Amon Amarth? Most people think Versus the World and I kind of have to agree, however favourite wise mine is the MCD Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds. Death in Fire FTW!!! The Video if you wanna quickly see it.

Amon Amarth ist truly krieg, their new album "With Oden on Our Side" is truly magnificient in all its epic Viking Glory, especially the song "Gods of War Arise", hell I'll even post the lyrics:

Darkness flees the rising sun
The village lies ahead
It will wake to a new day soon
Soon they'll all be dead

We came in cover of moonless night
Fifty men at arms
Now at first morning light
The church bell sounds the alarm

Sacrifice to Gods of old
Bleed them of their lives
Fresh blood on our swords
Gods of war arise
Sacrifice to Gods of old
Bleed them of their lives
Fresh blood on our swords
Gods of war arise

Hear the tortured screams
Shattering the air
They awake from soothing dreams
Into their worst nightmare

Fire sweeps their homes
They feel the dragon's breath
Consuming and destructive flames
Agonising death

Some seek shelter in the church
A refuge for those with faith
But we know how to smoke them out
A pyre will be raised

But those who choose to stand and fight
Will die with dignity
For the unfortunate few who survive
Waits a life in slavery

The day draws to an end
The night comes dark and cold
We return to our ships
With silver, slaves and gold

We gave them agony
As they fell and die
The Gods have granted victory
For our sacrifice

^Tr00 dat.

Sir Kenneth, go with Surtur's Immortal suggestion.

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Immortal, but I have heard them, and Surtur's right.

Leviathan needs to post some of his bands' samples on here. Good shit, that. Better than most "not yet well-known" bands.

No! Opeth is good, my friend. They aren't extremely heavy, but it's kind of nice to have a band that can flow through heavy and light like that. That's how they made their way into one of my favorite bands.

Oh...come on! The Misfits are the shit. I've been a fan of The Misfits since I can remember. I like both their "new" shit (with Michale Graves, not that horrible M25 bullshit with Dez Cadena from Black Flag) and the shit with Danzig.

I saw someone mentioning raw metal. I really have to be in the mood for it, though about 20% of my music collection consists of it. I know it's old school, but I just have to be in the mood to get used to the recording quality.

You know, shit like Immortal's Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism or any old Behemoth. Just something about the new recording quality that I like.

Do you mean Raw as in Gravelands early demo's or Raw as in Ildjarns Strength & Anger? If you mean low quality (which I think you do) then it really depends on the band, for instance Paysage d'Hiver pull it off really well and it goes with the atmosphere however bands like Mutiilation do it stupidly, like one of their EP's has a better recording quality than their full length, which also keeps changing the volume through out so it gets real annoying at times.

If you are referring to Ildjarns Raw then apparently Forest Poetry is the best (Which I have not got yet) and also Deathspell Omega's Infernal Battles is pretty raw... though you would probably perfer SMRC.

That's what I meant, the low recording quality. Take Behemoth again for example. I listen to Demigod alot more than I listen to And The Forests Dream Eternally. I guess I'm a sucker for high quality sound as opposed to sounding like it was recorded in a corn field.

^ Which Leviathan cause there are 10 bands called "Leviathan", I listen to the BM one. However I presume you mean the DM one though I do not know.

Opeth is one of the bands that got me into this kind of Metal. Still Life FTW!

Novembre is better however.

Albums? Here are some suggestions.

Hypocrisy: Virus.
Dream Theater: Awake.
Fear Factory: Archetype.
Agalloch: The Mantle.
Chimaira: The Impossibility of Reason.

Those are some great albums worth recommending for a start. Hypocrisy is pretty heavy, but had some great tunes. Dream Theater is softer but James LaBrie has a kickass voice. Archetype is Fear Factory's best album, in my opinion. Agalloch are wonderful and Chimaria are heavy but not to everyones' taste.

Can we keep this more on music? This is a music forum, so the talk of anything but music isn't really our main topic. (This ins't the BOD thread, , it's the BOD music thread.)

It's good to seeyou have some Dream Theater. Very different stuff.

Other good albums...

Strapping Young Lad: City.
Cannibal Corpse: Vile.

Isengard - Hostmorke (Fenriz only)
Wongraven - Fjelltronen (Satyr from Satyricon)
Stormlord - The Curse of Medusa (Italian Opera Metal)

Nunslaughter - Goat (Great Death/Thrash Metal)
Hate Eternal - King of All Kings
Nile - Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka
Morbid Angel - Covenant (All the first albums are great then it gets worse)

Bah I am not an expert on those bands so if somebody can write a better list then by all means

Keep in mind these are my opinion and if I missed a better album (ie Forest Poetry from Ildjarn) it means I have not listened to it.

Thank you again, I shall go hunting with a rifle and hatchet.

Hmm, I only just noticed Alucards post in reply to me, hmmmm Im ****in sick to death of Opeth, their stuff all sounds the same to me now, the same goes with Misfits... I go for other punk instead now.

I have quite alot of music just through curiosity, I buy albums on impulse not knowing what they will be like. I believe dream theatre was one of those.

EDIT: Thanks Winter... I dont think I can buy all of those, but I appreciate teh suggestions.

Later.

Essential metal albums for me would be:

Heavy/Thrash
Pantera: The Great Southern Trendkill
Pantera: Vulgar Display of Power
Slayer: Hell Awaits
Slayer: Reign in Blood
Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss
Slayer: South of Heaven

Ursurper also sounds promising, though I haven't heard enough of their material to make a concrete conclusion.

Death
Cannibal Corpse: Gallery of Suicide
Cannibal Corpse: Tomb of the Mutilated
Lordaeron: So it Begins
Morbid Angel: Covenent
Skinless: Progression Towards Evil

Black

I have a lot of reason to believe black metal fanatics will want to shoot me for this, but I consider the melodic stuff the good stuff:

Dimmu Borgir: Death Cult Armageddeon
Embraced: Amorous Anethema
Old Man's Child: In Defiance of Existence
Woods of Ypres: Against the Seasons
Woods of Ypres: Pursuit of the Sun

Folk
Finntroll: Trollhammaren
Haggard: Awakening the Centuries
Haggard: Eppur Si Muove
Haggard: Thou Shalt Trust... The Seer

Goth
My Drying Bride: Angel and the Darkest River
Tristania: Widows Weeds

---

I don't know much about Doom Metal, but Nortt and Crowbar sound pretty good.
