2. The Mayans didn't believe the world would 'end'. Like I stated before: What does that even mean?
All that 2012 crap is just a misinterpretation of the Mayan Calendar. Just because a measurement they used ends in what we call '2012', doesn't mean those people predicted that something apocalyptic would happen in that year. It's just the end of an era. Some New Agers just abuse the calendar of a dead civilisation to fund their crazy theories.
