Meteors have hit earth before. They aren't planet destroying, no matter how devestating they can be to the area they hit. To say that the world will end is stupid. Scientists are constantly telling us the world will end e.g- global warming. Global warming has been scientifically proven to have happened before. If sharks, crocodiles and turtles have survived it then humans can.

The same with the meteor. Nothing will end until the sun dies or the water dries up.

That depends on what you consider to be 'the end of the world'.

Is it the end of human civilisation? Is it the end of all animals being extinct? Is it the planet turning to dust?

Thats exactly what I mean. The end of the world for humankind. The earth crumbling to dust... Wha!?
The end of the world as we know it would surely be what anyone means. Otherwise, how does it affect us? Why would it bother us? If the planet dies, we die. If water dries up, we die. If the sun dies, we die. That's the subject here, surely.
The end of the our world.
