  1. I got Ravness on my squad in Tactics Ogre. And on my way back I got into a fight that took like an hour because the enemy had like 17 units against my 12. It's taking more time playing. I also have some forging to do like getting the Super Ninja Swords.

You advance any further and get all the other characters/classes up to speed?
  2. I believe you are farther than me. I haven't played in a while. Was on FFVII, now playing Xenogears on my PSP and Catherine. I have been thinking about picking up the game soon.

I know I am in Chapter 3, Lawful. I remember where I was now. I just got done taking the fortress in the snow-covered area. I did the next fight after that where there is a dialogue between Denam, the dragoon, & the enemy leader.
  3. How is Tactics Ogre going for you?

I'm grinding in Chapter 3, having just got Vyce and the White Knights into the team. Because I had these guys, a Necromancer, a Witch, and various monster units (a White and Dark Dragon, a Hydra, a Cyclops, a Lamia something, a Lizardman Juggernaut, and a Faerie Familiar) at level 1, I decided to stop and get them all up to speed. Along the way this group has grown by catching up to neglected classes, like my Gryffon. It's pretty good that enemies scale to party (including equipment), although not on every map, which is why this process is taking so long -- I'm over Tynemouth Hill and the one next to it. I play them in my sleep.
  4. I see, I didn't really pay enough attention at the sale.

I just reached chapter 3, and spent like an hour crafting. My monster hunting paid dividends, though I'm still finishing off the first tier of recipes when they push the next on me. I swear this game gives no satisfaction to the completionist. Everything feels half finished (not in terms of production, but in the sense that only two of my three berserkers have good abilities, but it's too time consuming to work toward my third when I've just got a dragoon, ninja, and swordmaster that even more desperately need attention).
  5. I don't really use rampart aura either. I may experiment with the skill. It is probably useful to have like 2 knights because 1 seems like it won't be able to keep up. Rogues are pretty nifty because they can set & disarm booby traps. Their steal skill is pretty vital for getting rare crafting materials once steal is around level 3. Each time you steal, I don't know if it counts only successful attempts or successful & non-successful, the steal skill raises .3 so it takes a lot of battles to raise to level 3. Unfortunately equipment can't really be stolen which I'm a bit sad over, since the enemy sometimes has stuff that I want and could craft into a better item.

IIRC, the octopus is a pretty good monster unit. They're definitely a nuisance as an enemy. As you know well, if you level it up to be closer to the mean of your party's level it will be a good unit more so in water maps.

The 100 goth is like a processing fee but the return is around 3k therefore I don't mind it at all. I'm more interested in the items I get to purchase more than the goth I receive.
  6. Ahh, I see. I can't really see that being terribly useful, at least in relation to my playing style.

I caught my first monster just before: an octopus. They kick ass in the map I got them from, but at level 4 in my party it struggles to do more than 5 damage... :/

I experimented with auctioning it. Felt a bit ripped off with the 100 goth going rate, but it gave up several ores (gold, silver, platinum, krystallos), 8 beasthides, and something else (gemstones I think). Weird that this isn't even stated in the Warren Report, which seemed exhaustive.
  7. Rampart Aura creates a 1-tile aura in all 4 directions that forces the enemy to stop on that tile - unless the can fly. It is used as a means to halt enemy progress to your weaker units and let your knight take the damage as is their job. Eventually, knights can create shadow ramparts/auras allowing them to create a shadow of themselves that has rampart aura; it is a blockade to once again slow enemy movement.

With enemy movement slowed, it allows your long-range characters to continue to dish out damage & maneuver away.

I also figured out how to get beasthides though it is largely too late for me. Capture griffons or any beast type enemey & auction them off. Each time a beast unit is auctioned 8 beasthides are for sale.
  8. Can you tell me what exactly Rampart Aura is supposed to be doing? It says it "halts enemy movement". I assumed it meant it would work like a trap -- forcing units to engage with my Knight, by not being able to move away. But it doesn't do that at all, and I'm starting to think that it doesn't do anything.
  9. Currently farming for Beasthides from Griffons that way I can craft some more stuff. Also getting my warlock up in level. I have around 30 units and may be getting rid of some that I don't plan on using.
  10. I have checked the forums but they have yielded not so good results. To clarify, I never said I would purchase a guide just merely look over up to where I'm at in the game.
  11. Why not just look up Gamefaqs? Aside from pretty pictures, actually purchasing a guide seems pretty redundant. I just look up one online to check the consequences of my decisions.

Good point about the archers I suppose; but if a battle become difficult because of the incompatibility between the terrain and my units, it's not really a failure of my strategic ability (well, not entirely, as you say -- balance is key).

That's also true; I've made sure to do some optional battles this time. In my last game I wasn't, and literally had to use 5 of those phoenix-down equivalent items every battle. Which basically meant I was running most battles at low or even negative profit.
  12. Not using any strategy guide currently. I was thinking of going up to Gamestop to check over it to see what decisions alter alignment.

Being at the bottom doesn't affect an Archer's ability too much. They're still beast & when that enemy gets in range, your archer is still lethal. Not seeing the enemies makes it more crucial to balance the skills & party members that comprise your team.

When they lose all three hearts I believe they die. And I guess you can harvest their skills, but I don't plan on finding out. I make sure to resurrect anybody before I finish a fight.
  13. What strategy guide are you using?

A big qualm I have is that you can't see the map or the enemies when placing units. It's irritating when I put in some archers only to be put at the bottom of a cliff.

Oh, and another thing I need clarifying; what happens when a unit loses all three lives? I gather that you can sort of harvest their skills... so couldn't you just hire a new unit, and give your skills to them? I'd imagine it would suck for unique characters... but otherwise is there no penalty?
  14. After you beat the game you can go back to different parts of the game to replay them to get a different outcome. Like instead of agreeing to the massacre at Balmamusa, resist instead. Everything carries over though the enemies scale to your level which would make things a bit tougher for me since I'm a few levels higher right now than the story battles.

I just reached chapter 3 & did a lot of crafting. Not so much with armor though I should. A bit confused because I looked up that a question at the end of 2 should change my alignment but I stayed under Law. I may have to check out the strategy guide up to where I am to see what's up. I definitely want to play the other routes because there are parts of the story explained in those that aren't in the Lawful route.
  15. I started a new game the other day. I've just reached chapter two (doing Law first). So, how exactly does the World System work? I can go back and take a different route, with my characters as they are currently (i.e. their skills and levels don't regress)?

What of doing the same route again, like if you accidentally kill someone the first time around (for example, Arcyelle)? I've made sure to do better this time around. I saved Cistina (then told her I seek peace throughout Valeria), and managed to debuff [man I'm terrible with names] and put her to sleep. Although the latter wasn't aided by Catuia; I should have never taught her Spirtsurge. I ended up having to KO my own sister, right after burning a town full of old people
